Phuket - Mai Khao beach JW Marriot Phuket Resort

by Joshua_Lee

Hi All,

My family (wife with 3 kids) will be staying in the JW Marriot from 12 to 15 March 2010.
We would appreciate if anyone can suggest what are the interesting things to do, places to go for shopping and good local seafood to enjoy for a family of 5?

Anyone around the area interested to meetup and venture together?

Regards

Travel Tips for Phuket

Diving and Snorkeling

by trisanna

There are some nice dive and snorkeling sites around Phuket. The best are the Similian islands. Since it's a while away from Phuket -it's best to do a live aboard- so you can get a bunch of dives in.

Around Phuket, for diving you can dive on the king cruiser wreck. Other sites include: Shark Point and Anemone Reef. There is some snorkeling around phi phi islands.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of dead coral.

the bars

by IrishPaddy about Clubs, bars, go go

well coming from the sleaze capital of the world aka pattaya, this place was a much more sedated affair though still typical thai, the bars full of girls hanging about and whistling after the males, it stopped the loud music earlier that pattaya and did not adopt an all night policy like pattaya did in some of the phuket bars and go go's closed about 2am as the thai 'norm'. a drink in a bar would range from 40B (0.80 cent) for local whiskey to 150B (3 euro) for a generously topped up with alcohol cocktail. Beer, local 50/80 B latter applies to go go bar, foreign 70/100B. girls drink aka a coke about 80B. A toned down affair here, plusses and minuses to pattaya casual, anything really as you are looked upon as a semi god RICH foreigner

Taking Tuc Tuc from Patong Beach

by love2wander

There are hardly any metered taxi (probably non existence) along Patong beach. Tuc Tuc waits at every corner to pick up passengers - negotiate a price before hopping on. After a trip or two, you will get a feel of the right price. Generally prices are higher than Bangkok taxi for about the same distance.

The normal asking fare back to Tavorn Beach Village is Bth200 but we paid only Bth150 always
