Guesthouse and Diving, Combined!

Dive Den is a shop on Nanai Road.
Dan and his wife runs it and recently opened up a guesthouse catering to divers.
I didn't dive, but the accomodations are fairly new (they just opened in Jan 2006)
and reasonably priced.
THey are a little off the mainstrip but I figure, if you want the noise and bustle, you can go to it. The area around them is fairly quiet but I imagine, with development, it will get slightly noisier.

Unique Quality: Guesthouse owners run dive shop. Combines guesthouse and diving together.

by Spike123

Looking at staying here for 1 week in Oct 2011. Family of 2A/2C (ages 12 & 9)
Just wondering if anyone can please answer the following queries?

1. Can the 4 of us be accomodated in 1 room
2. If so some idea of cost just for room please.
3. Area safe for kids?
Never been before so thanks in advance.

We are staying at the Swiss palm beach apartments they have two room apartments which can hold four people.

I think 4 people in 1 room is not possible but you can find some hotels & resorts they have connecting room for family, family suite room, family villa.
For that time you will come still low season (Apr.1-Oct.31) and you can find good room rate approx. start from USD 110 per night and good special offer(stay 7 nights pay 5 nights) but room rate depend on big or small hotel/ resort and where is the area, example: on the beach front road is the most expensive accommodation rate...about safty area I suggest to stay big hotel/ resort because they have good security and big swimming pool for children that is good choice.

I live in Phuket 7-8 years I saw many new hotels & resorts they have good offer if you want some more information I can share you and you can contact me email nina.th@hotmail.com "Welcome to Phuket"

Im pretty sure they have a suite but not sure of th prices.October should get you a good rate. Otherwise they also have rooms with adjoining doors. Rates are around $70 twin share for standard rooms and go up according to standard of room
It Is fantastic hotel for families and if this is your first time a great place to stay and other end from very busy bangla rd nightclubs, Close to great markets and restaurants.Enjoy

The standard rooms do NOT accommodate 4 people - only maximum of 3, but I do believe they have a number of larger suite rooms. I stayed there a few years ago, and loved the place! Its very central, pool area is awesome (especially for kids) and the price was amazingly cheap!!! Back then we paid about $100AUD per room per night, including buffet breakfast, but Im sure its gone up since then. As for the area being safe for kids, in general it is, but I would not really let a 12yo and 9yo out on the streets by themselves, if thats what you mean. In and around the resort area its very safe.
If you have any more questions, please ask. Also have a look at my Thailand pages for pics and info on the Patong Merlin Hotel. I would not hesitate to stay there again, with children, but atm in the early planning stages of a quick trip to Phuket with no kids, just hubby and me, so I would not stay there, I would chose something a bit smaller and quieter!!!

Travel Tips for Phuket

Weather

There are so many different opinions on which is the better site for predicting what the weather will be like and the majority of them are incorrect.

We have found the one in the link below to be the most reliable and accurate, using the latest technology. The best part is you can use it for any area of the world you may be traveling to!

Where ever you go in the world, I would highly recommend keeping a 'travel journal' whilst you are on your holiday. I found it to be very handy when recalling specific events on your travels, especially a few years later when hunting down info for VT.
This travel journal was given to me for my 21st birthday, a week before I left for Thailand. I also stuck a lot of receipts and little bits and pieces from the trip in here.

Phang Nga Bay - James Bond Island

by keeweechic

Phang Nga Bay - known as James Bond Island and Koh Pannyi are just two of the more famous spots in this hauntingly beautiful bay. A distinctive feature of Phang Nga Bay is the sheer limestone cliffs that jut vertically out of the emerald green water. You approach the bay by longtail boats down a river esturary where mangrove swamps enhance the still water. There is also a large Muslim fishing village typically built over the sea on stilts.

Shopping Mall

by Tina-Perth about Big C Shopping Centre

The Big C Shopping Centre is a great spot for shopping. There are myriad shops selling all types of goods here. There is a well-priced department store/supermarket and even a big homeware/hardware store. You will probably also find some things cheaper than at the touristy spots, like sports shoes for instance. There are plenty of shops on the main level, but more down the escalators that have some great prices and where you'll find plenty of mobile phone/computer stores. Downstairs also has a food hall where you can get very cheap meals. Be sure to purchase your credit vouchers before you place your order.

Upstairs, on the top level there is a souvenir/market, not the best prices, but you can find a few different items.

Big C itself sells everything from pharmacy items to clothing, electronics, kitchenware, food and alcohol.

The shopping is very good here and is reputedly cheaper than Central Festival, but there are quite a few shops at Central Festival with some very good prices too. If you really want to shop, then these shopping centres give you more range than somewhere such as Patong Beach.

Good motorbike rent company

by dromatz

There is a company called "Phuket Motorbike Rental" in Patong Beach. They have brand new Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, JRD & Kawasaki motorbikes. The bikes are always very clean. There are never any mechanical problems and never any problems such as bent rims which is always the case with most motorbike rentals.
I highly recommend renting you motorbikes from these guys. They are great to deal with and they even deliver the motorbikes to your hotel!
You can check out their website at www.phuktmotorbikerental.com
