3 nights in Phuket, 2010.

"Kamala Bay"
We stayed in Kamala Bay for 3 nights to break the journey from the U.K. to New Zealand and wished that we could have stayed longer. This is a good place for a relaxing break and away from the madness of Patong. The long sandy beach is ideal for walking along before stopping at one of the many beach bars for a drink or some lunch. There were enough restaurants to choose from and enough to keep us busy.
"Kamala Dreams"
Our room at Kamala Dreams had a superb view of the beach and the fishing boats from the wrap round balcony which also looks over the pool. We could actually lie in bed and watch the fishermen arriving in the morning to get their boats ready.
"Things to do and see"
There are plenty of things to see and do apart from just lazing on the beach. We hired a private driver for the day and visited some of the sights.

"Kamala Beach"
Kamala is a few K north of the very congested Patong Beach area and presents a quieter town with a great beach and some nice lodging available. at the high end see Layalina Hotel or Kamala Dreams for a few less bhat and for budget see the Benjamin Hotel. Kamala Beach Resort is in the background of the photo. You can rent automatic transmission motorbikes locally for 200 bhat/day or less. try the banana pancakes from the local beach vendor.

Any thoughts on Kamala bay - prices of wine in Phuket.
by Tricky_Dicky69
Hi, has anyone got any thoughts or opinions on Kamala Bay. We are going to be in Phuket for 3 nights in November on the way to N.Z. and haven't decided where to stay et. We are considering staying at Kamala Dreams in Kamala Bay as it looks to be relaxed and much quieter than Patong. Also I have heard that wine is expensive in Phuket. Can anyone tell me what the average price would be at a restaurant or a shop.
Any thoughts , opinions or comments would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Tricky Dicky

500 baht in a supermarket. Starting at 900-1,000 in a restaurant, far very average wine.

IIRC Thais put a massive amount of import duty on wine (300% I think) so even the gut rot stuff becomes expensive. Also I do not think some places understand wine and how it should be looked after so as much as I love wines when in Thailand I stick to beer.

That's why it is best to buy the stuff that somehow manages to evade import tax.
