Need help choosing a resort ASAP!!

by chantalleptos

I still cant decide on where to stay in Phuket, Patong! I originally wanted to stay at the Merlin Beach Resort and thought I would delay booking just incase a good deal came out and instead the hotel sold out! Now I am back to square one and have no idea where to stay. The most important thing to me is the facilities, I just want a big luxurious pool with a pool bar and restaurant as I don't plan on leaving my resort often. When I say 'luxurious' pool I mean big in size with nice features i.e. decor: plants, little island, pool bar etc..
I'd like to keep my costs below $2000.

Someone out there must be able to recommend somewhere!

Check out the Holiday Inn and The Couryard hotels, both in Patong. You say you want to keep costs below "$2000" but as you do not say which dollar or for how long, that information is not very useful. However, one way to keep costs down is to eat outside of your hotel, plus that way you will actually get to see some of the local culture. Hotels will add tax and service to your fod bills (which comes to 17%), most local restaurants do not do that.

Check out my Phuket pages for more info on the hotels and things to do etc.

Regards

John

Whats the point of taking a holiday to a foreign country if you are not going to leave the resort. A holiday is about chilling out, relaxing and exploring the local area which will be different from home. There is so much more to discover than a resort which are all the same wherever you go in the world today.

I am sure you will find a resort somewhere but get out and ejoy the surrounding area, Thailand has a lot to offer.

Id have to agree with Simon ... if you dont want to leave your Resort, then holiday somewhere nice close to home!! Thailand, and Phuket in general has sooooooo much to offer, it would be a shame to miss out on any of it!

That being said, most of the 4-5 star hotels in Patong have amazing pool areas, with day spas etc. If you are travelling with small kids, Id highly recomend the Patong Merlin, for location, value and an amazing huge 3 pool areas. Merlin Beach Resort is their sister Hotel, which is located a short ride out of town, whilst it is marginally nicer, its also dearer!

If you don't plan on leaving your resort often, i thank you need not stay in patong beach. These two hotels you can choose: 1.Radisson Plaza Resort Phuket Panwa Beach(In cape panwa, and there are 4-5 pools in hotel).2.Movenpick Resort And Spa Karon Beach(In karon beach, a new hotel.)

Travel Tips for Phuket

Getting around

by gonzo2002pt

My favorite thing about getting around in Phkuet is that you can choose from dozens of little travel agencies for the best deal on tours. Dont stop at the first one. Hagle the price. Get the best deal of all. Its fun. Going to Coral Island with my girlfriend, after hiring the trip from a local fisherman at Rawai Beach.

Awsome.

get your laundry done so cheap

by adyw

But it all there, the little mini supermarkets are everywhere and it is so cheap!! except for good sunscreen, I guess in Australia we value good quality 30+ sunscreen, so luckily we took our own. dont get your laundry done in the hotel it is way too expensive, take a walk down the road and find a laundry you can get all your washing done and neatly packed in a plastic bag for $5 AUD. Our friend of ours told us they got their washing done by a young Thai couple who pulled up in their car every morning and evening near the hotel. It supports their businesses and your clothes come back so clean and neatly folded.

James Bond etc

by neilward

Yeah yaeh I know but its well worth going to see as part of a trip, when in Rome etc.
I'd love to spend time backpacking around this part of the world, maybe one day....
Trouble is, theres so much to see and do all over this small world of ours and only one life to do it all,so let get our skates on and do something about it..........

The Andaman's World Class Shopping Destination

by WSH80 about Central Festival Phuket

An up-scale 120,000 square meters shopping mall, Central Festival Phuket is a one-stop shopping, non-stop entertainment complex for every Phuket resident and visitor. Again, almost anything! It depends on your shopping list, once again, and perhaps your mood at the moment. :-)

Bangla Road

by hash09

Bangla Road always people favourite place for entertainment, along the road, you can find a lots of bars around the area and they play differents type of music even it just next to each other, so you can just walk and you can choose the bar which play your favourite music.
