Hi all,
I am looking for a budget place to stay during my trip to Phuket in Jan. Planning to stay near kata beach. Has anyone stayed in Kata Country House? How is this place?
Is kata centre Inn or Copenhagen guesthouse a better choice?

I just got back from the area but stayed at kamala beach a few K's north of Patong Beach. the Benjamin hotel is online and the room i checked look clean, some have a limited view of the beach and the cost was about 1000 bhat/night. they rent great little automatic motorbikes there, i rented one for 3 1/2 days for 600 bhat total. not bad. the ocean was about 30 degrees C and there was the occasional evening thunderstorm. Patong Beach is a zoo...kata or kamala would definately be better. i also did an intro to diving there with scuba quest, one day, two 50 minute dives with 100' visability...about 3500 bhat. (I'm not certified for diving and wanted to do a padi course but didn't have the time to do that and fly...need 24 hours after diving before flying.)

hotel transfer vs metered taxi or mini van
Hi,
I am staying at Kata Country House for my stay in Jan 2007. There are 4 of us, the hotel charge me 700 baht for a taxi. Is it too expensive? Should I get a metered taxi outside the airport instead? how much is the mini van charged? not sure if the 4 of us can pack ourselves into a taxi if our bags..

get a metered taxi ... don't listen to anyone but the metered taxi stand people (the rest are ripoffs and cons) ... you could take two taxis to accomodate your group and probably not spend 700 baht ... the limousine service inside the arrival /baggage area is NOT the taxi stand ... it's on the ground level downstairs from the baggage area and is just a simple table with people standing in a que ... have fun

mini bus would be 150 per person (or 170 if you dont bargen)
in a taxi or taxi meter 4 person is to much becuse its just a normal car.
700 sound o,k !! even if you pay 100 baht more:)
