Accomodation Right on the Beach
We stayed at Kata Beach Resort in April 09 for 10 nights. The location is fantastic - you are right on a beautiful beach with snorkeling at each end. There are several good restaurants just a stroll down the beach- the restaurants at the resort are good but pricier. Having said that - we stayed in one night because it was pouring and had the set seafood BBQ. At 550 baht it was fantastic value. Mountains of fresh seafood cooked individually on BBQ- just pick out what you want and is cooked for you on the spot.
We stayed in a room on the ground level next to the pool which was convenient. Nice tropical garden outside our door and just a few steps to sunlounge.
Swim up bar was great - especially happy hour sipping a cocktail as the sun set. Very friendly service too.
Breakfasts were very good - huge variety and new dishes every day. Generally service was pleasant and efficient.
The only 2 criticisms I would have are internet access- connection was unreliable and nobody at resort could help- was given a number to ring but the person spoke poor English and it took ages to sort out the problem (which was their fault) and I had to pay for telephone call!
The other issue was the 'saving' of sun lounges by placing towels- there was a letter in our room on arrival explaining you could only save them for 2 hours and pool staff would remove any belongings after this time. This policy was not policed at all - some people actually saved more than one so they could move into shade in afternoon.
Unique Quality: Kata Beach Resort has a great location and the views of the beach ,especially at sunset, are to die for.
The pool area is also lovely with lots of tropical plants around

Hotel on the Beach at Kata Beach Phuket
The Kata Beach Resort Phuket is perfect if you want a mid range resort hotel right on the Kata Beach. Rooms are comfortable and the swimming pool has an excellent location right at the beach. Easy to walk to the nearby shops, restaurants and bars in Kata. Service was friendly, the breakfast also reasonable. There are few hotels right on the beach so the Kata Beach Resort is ideal. Quiet during the low season until the end of October with some excellent bargain rates. Low season cheap rate for the Kata Beach Resort from THB 2,700 for a single or THB 3,000 twin including tax, service and breakfast makes this a bargain being right on the beach at Kata.
Unique Quality: Ideal location right on the beach at Kata Beach Phuket, this is where location really counts.

Kata Beach-A Wonderful Experiance
I stayed for 3 days..Situated at Kata Beach..There is one more Kata Thani Hotel..That one is Kata Thani Beach and Resort..The rooms,the service,the employees are first quality..I think it's a very good choice for a honeymoon vacation..

Lovely and Comfortable
This review is for the KATA PALM RESORT AND SPA--not KATA BEACH RESORT
This is a great resort in the Kata Beach area in Phuket. Good restaurants, excellent service, travel/transport desk, and an absolutely wonderful spa. Rooms were large and comfortable, many with balconies overlooked the extremely LARGE and well-kept pool areas, which were lovely and well-landscaped. Very inexpensive for all you get with the room.
Unique Quality: Very close to the beach, about 7 minutes walk. Rooms were immaculate and comfortable. The pool area was absolutely great, lovely sculptures and landscaping, and a variety of depths to accomodate kids, non-swimmers, and avid swimmers alike. The spa was completely amazing--sauna and jacuzzi services are part of the Thai massage package--highly recommended!

Kata Beach Hotel Phuket
The Kata Beach Resort on Phuket is located right on the beach at the south part of Kata beach. Some of the rooms have seaview but other have a side or other view. The swimming pool at the Kata beach Resort is overlooking the beach, this is an ideal family beach hotel on Phuket if you plan to stay at Kata beach. The Kata beach resort hotel is ideal for those who want a luxury beach resort hotel on Phuket.
Unique Quality: The seaview rooms offer amazing sunset views.

Great rates and location
Firstly let me say that the Kata Beach Resort was great value at 2500 Baht per night for a double room with balcony and ocean views (we had ordered a garden view room but most of them have good ocean glimpses). I booked here because I heard it was fairly quiet and due to my wife asking me to step it up a star after our trip last year to Hoi An in Vietnam. The breakfasts were great, but the prices for drinks and other meals were a tad expensive which led us to eat at the local restaurants and cafes on all but one night. It was difficult though to pass up the Singhas, Mai Tais, Margaritas, and Singapore Slings when sunbathing by the pool!
Unique Quality: The location of the Kata Beach resort was fantastic because it is right on the beach and there is a good choice of local eateries and a 7-Eleven just in front of the hotel.

Gorgeous location and facilities
Kata Beach Resort is a relaxing oasis away from the bussle of Patong. It has an excellent pool complex, complete with swim up bar. Get down there before breakfast to secure the best lounger (go for one overlooking the beach, to enjoy views of the surfers and the sunset later in the day). While there is a small collection of shops outside the resort, there is also a complimetary shuttle into Patong at night for more shopping and nightlife. The rooms at Kata Beach have been refurbished following a small amount of damage from the tsunami and are well appointed. The breakfast buffet is good, and you can get lunch delivered to you at the pool. There are a lot of good, cheap, restaurants nearby as well for evening dining.
Unique Quality: Check out the massage pavillon overlooking the beach. Fantastic for a massage, pedicure or to get your hair braided. Also the pool bar has a happy hour at 5.30pm so swim on up, and enjoy fantastic sunset views.

Don't let the Color of the Hotel Sway You
When I drove by this hotel in my Taxi - I told the driver to keep going - It is painted a very bright Salmon Pink color. However, after touring a couple places nearby, I went back. The room was beautiful, the location perfect. It is a larger hotel in comparison of those near by, and the rooms open to an inside atrium. They have a lovely terrace cafe for breakfast and lunch and the pool is right on the beach.
I stayed here 01/07/05 - 1 week after the Tsunami and although there were not a lot of people there, it was beautiful and one could not tell there had been a natural disaster on the island just a week before.
Kata is a great place to stay - a little off the beaten path of Patong (not as many people) however close enuf to still enjoy the night life.
Unique Quality: Right on the beach, great pool.

The Pool Bar!
I stayed at this hotel for two nights while I was in Phuket on a work trip. I didn't select this hotel myself but I was very happy with it.
It is situated right on the beach about 500 meters from Club Med. There are 273 rooms, 2 restaurants, 2 pools, 2 coffee shops and beachside traditional Thai massage. There is a small town about ten minutes walk from the hotel where you can buy supplies.
It`s about 15-20 minutes by taxi to get to Patong for shopping and nightlife.
Unique Quality: I loved the pool bar. It`s open from 11am to 11pm every day. Great spot to relax with a cocktail and enjoy the views of the beach.

Right on the Beach

Mom Tri's Boathouse/ Kata Beach Resort
My boyfriend and I are going to Thailand, Phuket in few weeks and we are considering these places( Mom Tri's Boathouse and Kata beach resort) as our accomodation. Has anyone stayed there or know, any recomendations about beach ( south end of Kata beach) will be appreaciated. I have done a good research but still have not decided. I have also read that to Phuket city is 30 min by car, is it difficult to get there or its rather a small problem to get a "taxi" or anyone to drive there?

Kata Beach is a favorite of mine- and much cheaper than the Boathouse. The restaurant at the Boathouse has a great reputation, but I found it overpriced with mediocre (at best) food. Yeah, they have a big wine cellar, but dinner should be more than just that.
That said, Kata Beach itself is one of my favorites - and I live on the island.

Agreed - the Beach Resort is a great place to say. and Kata is beautiful!
Rather then going into Phuket town for things you'll probably end up going into Patong - closer and more resturants/nightlife. Regardless, you can take a taxi to Phuket town without trouble- and correct, about 30 min.

Definitely the Kata Beach resort for your accommodation;
however, try the Happy Hour at the Boathouse for alcoholic drinks, it falls exactly in the sundown time and then becomes really good value for the prices (I have been there with four friends just yesterday and we had a great time).
