Health in Phuket - status March 2005
by Myndo
Malaria:
Phuket is free of Malaria (for the Rest of Thailand check a health page, the risks are differeing from nothing to mediate to high).
Prepare for the stay:
These immunisations are advised for everyone:
Diphtherie , Tetanus , Hepatitis A
In special situations (help workers etc.) the Rabies , Japan. Enzephalitis
Yellowfever: if you come from an endemic country you have to have the shots and proof for it.
Bird Flu: This can be dangerous for humans, too. Anyway, the risk for tourists getting infected is very, very Low. Keep away from chickens and water birds (like on farms or markets). To eat chicken meat is no problem if it is cooked or grilled.
To have a shot against the normal flu is no protection against bird flu, so it is not necessary to make this. If you worry, ask the doctor for Tamiflu(R), this should also help against this virus.
Thailands hospitals are quite good (especially those in touristic places). They also have well equipped pharmacys.
Take the medication with you that you normally need. Tsunami update:
don´t worry about what rumors you may have heard.
In Thailand there was never a health problem after the tsunami
You can also (still) eat anything without any problems.
Slip Slop Slap

In Phuket the day's heat can reach into the high temperatures and the sun can burn you to a crisp so dont forget your hat, sunscreen and close knit clothing so you do get burnt through the material.
Mr.Bond I presume...
by neilward
This was the back of "James Bond Island",When you've managed to clamber out of the boats theres a 50meter stroll up the beach where there are a few stalls selling all sorts from t-shirts to shells.Carry on past and there in front of you is the Rock alot is made about it,but as they say...When in Rome !!
I though it was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
Robinsons & Ocean Plaza Phuket
by Cathy&Gary about Robinsons & Ocean Plaza Phuket
In the centre of Phuket Town, on the corner of Tilok Uthit 1 road, is Robinson Ocean department store.
This is a fairly small department store but has a good range of brand name clothing. Plus lots of cheap womens and childrens clothes.
Further down the same road is Ocean Shopping Mall, an even smaller department store.
The second floor is worth a look for the clothes. Many of the items you will see along the stalls in Patong can be found here much cheaper, as well as many other fashion items and accessories.
Both of these department stores are also worth looking at, Robinsons can be hot and busy, good for kids clothes. Lots of brand name products and good quality clothing.
Both on same road, only couple minutes walk from each other.
After looking through these 2 department stores take a walk along Tilok Uthit road, there are also quite a few more shops and stalls selling clothes, jewellery and souvenirs. (Plus some little coffee shops etc).
Soho Bar
by Cathy&Gary about Soho Bar
The Soho Bar is located on Soi Easy, if you go onto Bangla Rd from the beach end its the first Soi after Scruffy Murphy's on your left, the Hollywood Nightclub is above it.
Bea the owner is a lot of fun to be around and she loves her customers to have fun, so be prepared for lots of games. There is lots of seating around the bar and I felt very comfortable here.
I have to say I wish we did not let Bea and Kai from Nicky's Handlebar talk us into going upstairs to the Hollywood nightclub around 2am and felt even worse going back to our hotel at 5am!
So if your in the area call in, have a drink and say hello to Bea and the girls.
