Honeymoon & Safe

by gripdxd

Hi
I'm thinking about honeymooning here in August.

Is it safe?
How's the weather?
What's there to do other than beach?
Do you recommend for a honeymoon?
What could we do that's off the beaten path, that's safet yet cool.

Responses are all appreciated.

Re: Honeymoon & Safe

Hi,

Phuket isn't exactly romantic with quiet spots, etc.

For that the best island would be Koh Samui or Koh Tao. The resorts there aren't too expensive, but definitely more suited to honeymooners ;-)

You can do a lot better than overdeveloped Phuket for a honeymoon. If you want to stay in that region consider Koh Ngai (aka: Koh Hai). The Fantasy Resort is beautiful and the sea views are spectacular. You can get there from Koh Lanta, or from Trang on the mainland, both departure points accessible from Krabi Town.

Been to both Phuket an Koh Samui.
between the both of them, Koh Samui is the one I'd advice to go to on honeymoon.
We've been to Zazen Boutique resort & Spa. That hotel is really really worth the money ! So calm, quiet, relexed, ... Bungalows in a lush & romantic tropical garden, fantastic food, very friendly and helpful staff, ...
Here's is the link to my Koh Samui page : http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/114fff/16186f/

Im off to Phuket soon, have been to Koh Tao before and that was amazing. Snorkling, walking around the streets, nice little restaurants. Not too expensive.

Travel Tips for Phuket

Phuket Map & Distances

by Tina-Perth

I thought this might be helpful for anyone who isn't familiar with the island of Phuket and may need a map to see the general layout of the island.

Below is the website address for a map of Phuket. Phuket is only around 50 km long and around 21 km wide, so getting anywhere is quite easy to access, though traffic and road conditions can make travel a little longer than you'd expect.

Distances around the island can be found here:

Thai boxing

by georeiser

Phuket MuayThai Training Camp is a training camp for Thai boxers. But it's also possible for other tourists to train here, like I did.
I trained there one week during a 3 weeks holiday. If you like Thai boxing or want to increase your knowledge of self defence, why not? You will get a private trainer.

Morning Training: 7am to 11am
Afternoon Training: 3pm to 7pm

99 baht T-shirt shop

by yukisanto about no name...

This T-shirt shop is along the road towards Phuket town - your hired driver should know about it. It's a wholesaler, so it sells its t-shirts at 99 baht or 149 baht based on the colour of the t-shirt and design. Quality of t-shirts pretty good for the price.

You gotta check out their great band

by yukisanto about Two Black Sheep

We were walking along Rat-U-Chit road shopping along the night market near Royal Paradise when we heard this really good music from across the road. We went over to check it out, and we went into this watering hole called Two Black Sheep. It's an Aussie-owned bar, and well, the people were mostly foreigners. I guess my friend and I were the only Asians there. The band played really good music, and happy hour meant that all drinks were 100baht each, so we thought it was a good deal. Nice place to chill. casual.

Getting around by car

by genie47

Getting around Phuket by car is easy. It's not easy to rent a car though. We came during the peak season of December. As a result many car rental companies have all their cars leased out. Even giants like Budget Car and Truck Rental have no more vehicles left. Finally only Pure Car Rent has an available car. A manual transmission Toyota Vios powered by a 2NZ-FE engine. My advice, go online and book the car in advance before your arrival in Phuket.

If you are from Malaysia or Singapore, you just need to present your own driver's license. Drivers from other places, better get an International Driver's License.

If you have children like me, you can request for child restraint systems. As usual, the rental car's tires are left to be desired compared to what you usually have at home.

The roads in Phuket are generally very well mainatained except for the small roads. Huge potholes exist and best avoided if you don't want damage to the vehicle's suspension. Usually, driving around in Phuket involves rather hilly roads with lots of bends. It can be challenging to a novice driver. It is however heavenly for the expert driver but I will not recommend any Takumi wannabes to try any touges. December sees a lot of tourists riding motorcycles and even sidecars.

Since Phuket is connected to mainland Thailand via the Sarasin Bridge, it is entirely possible to drive all the way from Singapore to Phuket. You can check out Poortraveller's blog, a daring individual who has driven from Singapore to Ko Samui. He gives vital information about driving your car into Thailand from Malaysia. Not only he has done it, on TV, the local news program PGTV showed images of the Singapore Porsche Club driving their mean machines up here to Phuket.
