Patong Lodge Hotel is located on a green hill facing Kalim Beach, and at northern end of Patong Beach, Phuket. I stayed here on my first visit to Phuket in 91. Patong was at that time a quiet place. The hotel is just a few minutes walk to the beach, only a short distance to Patong’s nightlife, shopping and dining centers, 30 minutes drive to Phuket town and 45 minutes drive to Phuket International Airport.

We were a family of 10, which included two small children aged 2 and a half and 5 years old.
We booked 5 double rooms, 2 of which were inter-leading for the children and their parents.

The food was outstanding. I could not believe how they could come up with different choices for the buffet for every meal.
We had Thai food, Japanese, Western and Chinese to choose from.

All meals (3 per day) are included in your package, as well as cocktails (alcoholic and virgin), beer and red and white wines. As much as you needed or wanted, as well as all soft drinks and milk shakes for the children.
All drinks could be taken down to the beach as well.
We had cocktails whilst watching the sunset on the beach every evening.

Great facilities; Spa, Hair salon, Yoga, 9 hole golf, water-aerobics etc.
Entertainment every night, with a different show.

Club Med overlooks Kata Bay. The bungalows, built in the style of the local long-houses with teak silk and marble finishes.

The children had a play area with their own shallow pool if wanted.

Little Mermaid Guesthouse or resort, as they call it, is a cozy guesthouse in the upper Kata centre area. It doesn't look too attractive when you are standing outside. But it's different inside and around the swimmingpool area.
The distance to the beach is more than 10 minutes walk. But most of the families with children are happy enough with the swimmingpool. The guests comes especially from the Scandinavian countries, since the owner is Danish. It has a total of 40 Double Rooms (bungalows and ordinary rooms). This guesthouse is cheaper than rest of the places in Kata and is a good bargain if you have a big family. I have stayed there 4 different times.

Pineapple Guesthouse: Good Place to Stay in Karon Beach
  • Satisfaction:
  • JuanD
  • By JuanD on April 14, 2009
  • I highly recommend the Pineapple Guest House.

We, being me the old man, my lovely wife and the intrepid one - my 11 yr old son, spent a week at the Pineapple. We chose a King room w/an extra bed (a thin mattress on the floor) for the intrepid one. That set us back 750 THB / night (about $25 USD). I'll start from the inside and work out.

    The Room:
The room was clean, dominated by the king size bed with the usual firm SEAsia mattress,. There is a small one drawer desk w/mirror, a small table which spent most of its tabling holding about a 21" JVC TV with a compliment of satellite channels and a good sized fridge with a few beverages. The far wall of the room had a large window opens onto Karon Plaza below. You can climb out the window and make use of the balcony if you wanted to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Plaza. The balcony is narrow, but good for towel drying in the afternoon sun. The bath was very clean and is the typical one room does all guest house affair. It carries the slightly off smell of third world plumbing. Small bars of soap and shampoo packets are provided, always a nice touch in my book. The room has a good air con and they provided a fan at our request.

    The Guest House:
The Pineapple is comprised of two side-by-side two story shop lots and the entire third floor of the building. It is the central shop in a building comprising about 8 shop lots. The ground floor has the office, which is where the you-keep-the-key lockers are provided for your valuables and the back portion of this provides the living quarters for Steve and his wonderful wife Lek (?sp) and a bunch of other family which I never quite figured out. Laundry is provide in the back of this section for the Karon beach standard price of 5 TBH / kg. The 2nd floor landing has the free-to-guest pc, the wi-fi working bits and a small reference library with travel guides etc. It is also where the bunk bed dorm is. The entire 3rd floor is guest rooms plus a small sitting area with the pulp library consisting of about 200 paperbacks.

In the adjoining shop is the restaurant / bar. It's more restaurant than bar but does have a nice selection of liquors. The food is good and priced to the Karon market. My only knock on the restaurant is I had to fight the mosquitoes every morning as I ate breakfast, no matter where I go they always seem to find me. They did not bother my wife or son.

    The Environs:
The Pineapple is set in Karon Plaza, which is in the smaller of two commercial areas of Karon beach. The larger being at Karon circle. In between are the Mega resorts. The Plaza is at the intersection of the main road and the road to the beach. It is a leisurely 10 min walk to the beach. I'm sure a dedicated beach hound could sprint walk in less than 5. In and around the plaza are an assortment of restaurants, beer bars, guest houses, boutique hotels, tailors, t-shirt vendors, tour agencies, thai massage etc. Italian, Thai and Scandinavian food are ubiquitous. It seems there are more Scandinavians than locals sometimes. You can just follow the trail of these shops right to the beach. Someone said that Karon beach is the longest in Phuket, and it seemed that way to me. Maybe a two km long stretch of double depth lounge chairs and umbrellas set on a squeaky clean sand beach looking out into the Andaman Sea, or is it the Indian Ocean? Nice, but lots of people. I only gave 3 stars on the location because if you look you can find guest houses set in the trees away from the commerce.

The Recommendation: A great place to stay. The staff is great! Steve, Lek and the gang are always ready with helpful advice and a smile. The atmosphere is quiet and laid-back. I would stay here just to get to see them again. Plenty of the things you need are nearby. My only nit was the squeaky hinges on the bath door, woke me several times. I'm sure they would have fixed it, but I just never could remember until the next time I heard the noise. Farewell fellow traveler.

LK Patonghouse is a nice quiet guest house about 300 meters from the beach and 300 meters from the Banglà road.Rooms are spacious all with tv dvd fridge and wireless connection.I apid 800 baht(about 17 euro) for a double room and had really a good time. The management is italian but, for my great surprise, the hotel was not full of italians, that was the thing I was worried about: being thousend miles from home and listen people commenting football matches on monday morning.

The only bad sides of the hotels are: no breakfast and no lifter, so when you get a room at the 4th floor, expect some phisical exercise.

Tanamas House: Super Accommodation on Nai Yang Beach, Phuket
  • Satisfaction:
  • ann500
  • By ann500 on February 23, 2009
  • Our stay at Tanamas House was super! This place has four very cute, new, spacious bungalows in a quiet garden setting. It is 2 km from the beach, but Sak, the very nice young man who runs the place will give you a drop-off and pick-up at the beach in his tuk-tuk whenever you want. Every morning you are served a nice breakfast (there are a few choices) on your own veranda. The beds are great, the tv has good channels and the bathroom is large. It is a very clean place with nice decorations. About a five min. or less walk up the main road, to the north, is an excellent restaurant that serves a lot of seafood. It is a lovely place draped in green plants and orchids, popular with Thais and had live music. Accommodation on Nai Yang is rather expensive and this is a great choice for those on more of a budget. We were in Thailand for about 3 weeks and this and a spa place on Koh Samui were our favorite places.

This hotel is in a central location about half way between Patong beach ( 7kms ) and Kata beach. The rooms are what you would expect for this price range..........double bed, aircon, TV, mini bar reasonable bathroom and free breakfast included which is also not bad with a good choice. The hotel is oblong shapped with the resturant at the front by the road which is not busy and the swimming pool at the rear. When we were there a hotel next door was being built but the noise didn't really bother us. There is a poolside bar which sells large fantastic cocktails.
Two points to note here is
1.the beach infront of the hotel is dangerous to swim in at certain times of the year so you either take the risk or have to travel to another beach
2.The resort here is spread out and not at all busy with a few resturants next to the hotel and the rest in Karon town which is about a 20 minute walk.
There is a Taxi/Tuk Tuk stop outside the hotel but these are very expensive, about 500 TB to patong so if you've got the nerve hire a scooter out. We hired out 2 scooters for 2 weeks at £2 a day each but be careful because this is without insurance. We had a punture in one one day and it was down to us to sort it out and pay for it...............all part of the experience again
There is also quite a big market next to the hotel
I would definately recommend this hotel but only to people that would be okay with hiring a car or scooters

    Couldn't fault anything

Since the mid 90’s I have stayed in many Marriott hotels in different countries and my biggest surprise about this new property is that it is branded a Courtyard and not a full service Marriott. The rooms and facilities are better than many FS Marriotts and the location of this hotel puts it in direct competition with the Holiday Inn (and its superb Busakorn Wing) on the other side of the road.

I stayed here about 4 weeks after the hotel opened and there were a few minor teething problems. However I was impressed with the attitude of the staff who quickly took any corrective action in response to my comments. I definitely intend to stay at this property again. The room was very comfortable and well equipped (even a DVD player), you do get a refrigerator, but not a minibar. If you have a room overlooking the front of the hotel you can hear some of the noisier traffic, so if you are a light sleeper ask for a room away from the front.

The pool on the third floor is slightly sheltered by the building but you do get plenty of sunshine there. When I was there the roof top pool on the 8th floor was not fully open but you will get all day sun there.

Patong Beach is less than a 5 minute walk away and there are plenty of shops, bars and places to eat within easy reach.

This hotel really exceeded our expectations. We have stayed here twice for a total of 5 months and will be staying agin soon.

Swiss Palm Beach is low rise and has 36 apartments set in small but nice landscaped gardens.
The hotel is situated in a quiet area at the northern end of Patong Beach, but within a few minutes walk to shops, restaurants, beach etc.

    The location is perfect.

The hotel has a restaurant plus a pool with a lovely waterfall and a rarity in Phuket - a swim up pool bar. There is also a massage centre with very reasonable prices.

All the rooms here are apartments so its great for families, the hotel is family owned and has the best staff in Phuket!

Prices are fantastic considering the location.
