The On On Hotel: Famous - but not for staying there

The On On Hotel in Phuket Town is Phukets oldest Hotel. It also became famous when the interior scenes of "The Beach" were filmed here.
Yes, here and not as it was later made to think in the Khao San Road in Bangkok. They also used the road in front dor some shots.

I think of this rather as a "must see" than a place to stay, and I never slept here, either.

Unique Quality: Located in the old town of Phuket this hotel has a classical facade. Good location for exploring Phuket town, also there are Bus stops right in front.

Summer Breeze Inn: Phuket Town Homestay

I stayed at Summer Breeze Inn homestay in April 2005. Its really a good experience to live with the locals in the neighbourhood in Phuket Town. Though this place is too hard for me to find as a foreign because of Phuket Town's unorderly way of assigning address, the experience is worth it. I have the chance to interact with the locals in the neighbourhood, their neighbourhood market and environment as well.

If you have a chance, you ought to give this a try. The owner of this homestay is a friend chap and he is willing to pick you up at the airport for a fee.

The price the owner is offering to VT members and fellow tourists while i was there:


low season (1 May - 31 October)

Family rooms: 1250B

mid-season (11 Jan - 30 Apr / 1 Nov - 13 Dec)

Nai Harn Beach Resort: Clean simple and quiet

We checked in later the first evening - so it was dark - so we really didnt get a lay of the land. In the morning we walked out from the bungalow to a little sitting area and the view was magnificent. Great breeze up high and enough clear space to let some sunlight in -on the premises. You will need some for of transportation to get around as there isint really anything within walking distance. With that said, everything is only a 5 minute bike ride away. Breakfast available in the morning but they do not serve any other meals. Daily housekeeping and fresh towels which was nice. Cost 900baht/night.

Unique Quality: A little oasis tucked up high on the hill. Great view and very pleasant hosts and workers. Food was good and they would serve breakfast till noon. We were going to be there for a couple evenings but ended up staying a week. A small (dont know the name) beach is just down the hill but a couple minutes away. Bigger beaches up the coast which make a good day trip. Of course, the reggae bar is not to far away and the owner - BIG BO - was one of the most interesting characters we met along the way. Say Hi.

The Natural Resort: The Natural Resort

The Natural Resort is located on the same compound of Baantonsai Garden Resort, but provides you with more spacious guest rooms in a more peaceful atmosphere than those of Baantonsai. Similarly, the rates are slightly higher.

Located at Nanai Rd, The Natural Resort provides you with 78 Super Deluxe rooms. All rooms are equipped with air-conditioning, satellite TV, refrigerator, hot & cold water, small table, sink and private balcony.

Room rates are from THB600 onwards during off peak season.

Baantonsai Garden Resort: Baantonsai Garden Resort

If you are looking for a quiet place to stay and don’t mind a 5-10 mins walk to Patong Beach, then Baantonsai Garden Resort would be the choice. You will find yourself surrounded amongst greenery and garden in the south part of busy Patong. For THB370 per night for an ensuite double room, this is one of the cheapest accommodation which you can find in Patong Beach.

We stayed there for a night and found the room to be very spacious and very clean. There is a mini pool for those who wish to swim and take in the sun in peace. No more touts asking you to buy t-shirts, watches, massages, taxi, parasailing, jetski.

The Baantonsai also operates a tour desk, massage and restaurant. You practically don’t have to step out to the crowded Patong Beach.

Phunga Hotel: Phang Nga Hotel

Personally i have never stay at this hotel before. Only dropping by to see the hotel. Its quite an old hotel but in good condition. The hotel is popular for those who wants a transit. But for those who wish to explore Phang Nga and its bay, this is one of the better choice of hotel in Phang Nga. This hotel is near the Phang Nga Bay where you can easily chartered a longtail boat to tour the beautiful formationof limestone at Phang Nga Bay and also the James Bond Island and Sea Guppy Village.

Baan Suphan: Patong Budget Hotel, Kathu

Baan Suphan is beautifully located on Nanai hill overlooking Patong Beach. From this quiet and relaxing spot, it takes you just 5 minutes to the center of Patong Beach, Phuket most popular touristic centre.

All our apartments are very stylish and euipped with cable tv, air-conditioning, telephone, safe box, king size bed, hot and cold water shower and a kitchen inclusive electric stove and refrigerator.

They offers motorbikes rental and also arrange tours around the spectacular Phuket island.

J.R.P Hotel: Patong Budget Hotel, Kathu

Small and luxury hotel, located in Patong beach Kathu, Phuket island. The distance from Phuket Internation Airport is about 45 minutes drive and 25 minutes drive to Phuket Town. If you want to stay in Patong but hope to avoid the crowd, this is the place for you.

The hotel location is just 1.5km to the Patong beach and entertainment area of Patong such as varieties of shopping amenities, fast food contres, restaurant, bars, massage parlour, etc........

This is a wonderful hotel based on my visit previous visit and located on Nanai Hill overlooking the entire Patong. Hopefully those who spend a night or two at JRP Hotel wil have a wonderful experience living there.

Unique Quality: All superior and deluxe rooms are luxuriously equipped with:
- individual controller air-conditioning

- cable and staellite TV

- minibar
- hot and cold shower

All rooms have big balcony with sun bath chairs for sea-view rooms.
