Talang Guesthouse: cheap and friendly - perfect for backpackers

It's cheap, for only 300BTH per night you'll get a spring bed (no bug or mosquito), a big ceiling fan, a clean shower (not shared) and breakfast. It's a perfect place for backpackers.

Talang Guesthouse is located in Phuket Town (the center of the Phuket Island).

Since, this is a budget hotel, its staffs are quite familiar on how to get great experiences in Phuket on tight budget . Just ask them the cheapest way to go to the beach or to the Phi Phi Island or James Bond Island, etc, etc and they will provide you with perfect tips.

Kelly's Hotel, Patong Beach: Great little hotel just opened

Checked into Kelly's Hotel on Nanai Road on the recommendation of a real estate agent I am using to buy a home there.
The place is on Nani road, which is the third road in Patong, full of expats abd expat bars = cheap beers and good local info. 10 mins o the beach and a short walk to the shopping and nightlife.
The owner Dan, has a bunch of hotels in Australia and this is his first venture in Thailand and it's breathtakingly pretty. I was one of two guests as they were not quite open, December being the fully open date. Theother guest and I were blown away with the place.
A great pool and a lovely little bar. Good breakfast but no evening menu yet, never mind it shouldn't be an issue after the real opening.
The rooms are all air con and the view I had from the 2nd floor was spectacular, overlooking the whole town and the ocean. Rooms on the pool floor and first floor do not have such a view.
Good service from Dan's extended family and really nice atmosphere too, highy recommended.

Beautiful little place with a super pool and bar.
Great views from 2nd floor up.
Lift to all floors.
Very nice atmosphere and close to everything.

C&N Hotel: Close to everything

For location you cant beat it at the end of Soi Bangla,so you are right in the heart of Patong.
Only a few hundred meters from the Ocean plaza shopping centre.
The room was clean ,cheap and comfortable but a little old and just occasionally a little noisy.
The staff were good and you can book tours or a motorbike from your hotel.
Plenty of places to eat very close by, and just a short stroll to the Tiger pub and other bars.
I would recommend this place to single guys or younger couples that want to party, but not to older people and families.

You can probably book a ticket to the moon from here as they can arrange for you to go everywhere else!
They also do a sensational Thai or oil massage just downstairs!
The staff were friendly and kept the rooms clean everyday, and visitors were welcome to come to your room without any drama.
You can upgrade to their resort and spa down the road too which is very new and more upmarket for those who want a little more luxury.
We also stayed there for two nights and loved it.

Center Inn, Kata Centre: Center Inn, Kata Centre

I stayed here on my visits to Phuket in 1992 and 1996. The location was convenient, rooms okay and prices very reasonable. Since then it has undergone much change, to the extent I could no longer recognise it from the outside when I last went. I believe there have been several changes of management too.

Good location and reasonable prices.

Courtyard Marriott: Marriott's new hotel in Patong

Since the mid 90’s I have stayed in many Marriott hotels in different countries and my biggest surprise about this new property is that it is branded a Courtyard and not a full service Marriott. The rooms and facilities are better than many FS Marriotts and the location of this hotel puts it in direct competition with the Holiday Inn (and its superb Busakorn Wing) on the other side of the road.

I stayed here about 4 weeks after the hotel opened and there were a few minor teething problems. However I was impressed with the attitude of the staff who quickly took any corrective action in response to my comments. I definitely intend to stay at this property again. The room was very comfortable and well equipped (even a DVD player), you do get a refrigerator, but not a minibar. If you have a room overlooking the front of the hotel you can hear some of the noisier traffic, so if you are a light sleeper ask for a room away from the front.

The pool on the third floor is slightly sheltered by the building but you do get plenty of sunshine there. When I was there the roof top pool on the 8th floor was not fully open but you will get all day sun there.

Patong Beach is less than a 5 minute walk away and there are plenty of shops, bars and places to eat within easy reach.

Morakot Resort: Simple, but fine

The Morakot Resort is off the beaten path and located in Krabi Province. It is comprised of 5 bungalows. clean and air conditioned. Though you'll pay a little bit more. Otherwise you have electric fans. The main building serves all your meals for very reasonable prices. There are also souviners for sale. As the establishment generally caters mostly to birders and other nature enthusiasts, the surroundings are planted with vegetation which does attract wildlife.

Peaceful and very quiet. A decent place to stay while in the area and visiting the Khao Nor Chuchi Nature Preserve and Park.

Bamboo House Hotel: Loved this hotel.

Well I've just returned from a 5 night stay in The Bamboo House in Karon, Phuket.

Reasonably priced with free transfers I cancelled my previous accomodation booking and went with this, I'm pleased I did.

Booking was painless and they didn't even take a credit card or any kind of security against me not turning up. I feel they might change this if people sting them to often. My driver was as promised awaiting me outside the airport and I was taken to the hotel in a nice air conditioned minibus/van.

On arrival I noticed the place was clean, well located in Karon and the cold orange juice handed to me as I arrived in the door was very welcome.

The rooms are as pictured. Clean, with tea and coffee and a kettle. Two free bottles of water each day and a fridge to store any items picked up from the numerous stores. Just watch the door lock, most hotel doors once closed are locked but not here. You have to push in the lock button on the inside and then close the door. It caught me out the first day and you don't want to be out all day with your room door open.

I didn't watch much local/cable TV but used the Apple Mac Mini computer connected to the lcd tv. On the apple are films and an endless amount of music for you to listen to. They've set the volume at a reasonable level too so other guests won't be tempted to cause problems. Not that I ever heard other guests and there were plenty.

There's a room safe that was big enough to take my Toshiba Portege laptop and my other valuables. There's free internet on the Apple PC or free internet on wifi if you bring your own wifi enabled device.

Breakfast (free) was coffe/tea and fresh fruit juice. A selection of sliced fruit and a cooked breakfast with your eggs cooked as you request and american bacon with sausage and ham if you want it. Topped off with toast and jam.

The bamboo House Kitchen is well worth a visit for an evening meal. I had the 4 course set meal at 290thb and couldn't manage it all. It was as nice a Thai meal as I think I've had anywhere.

The service is excellent, the staff attentive and polite. The front desk is manned 24 hours a day. I really cannot fault the place and would stay there again without any hesitation.

The Bamboo House Hotel doesn't have great views and the pool isn't very big but it does have an excellent restaurant and a store/ pharmacy attached.

C and N Resort Patong: Excellent value small spa resort

Very good value for money small spa resort set in the hills overlooking Patong beach. 10 to 15 minute walk to the beach. Comfortable rooms. Not to be confused with C and N mansion which is a smaller budget hotel in the center of Patong ( though same ownership )

Nice pool and cafe area with great views of Patong

The Nice Hotel: The Name says it All.. Highly Recommendable

The Nice Hotel is a newly built and privately owned hotel that is set in a comfortable atmosphere in a redeveloped area. This gem of a hotel is situated in the perfect location, only 100m from the beach, walking distance to the many bars, shops & restaurants, yet still tucked away to offer you some privacy.

After staying for one night at another hotel, my friend and I decided to get a place which is slighly nearer to the beach. Eventhough The Nice Hotel is tucked away, it is only less than 5mins walk to the beach and the various entertainment areas and shopping.

Staffs are extremely friendly and understands English. There is a pool table and small bar area in the entrance lobby. Guests get free access to Internet and PC usage in the lobby.

Rates: 700THB per Twin room per night (low season) / 1500THB (high season)

The main entrance to the hotel is large, welcoming and homely. Staffs are extremely friendly especially the owners.

Rooms are tastefully decorated in accordance to the resort-like theme. Facilities in the rooms are sufficiently equipped. Rooms are large with balcony and airy. Bathrooms are large and bright. With A/C, TV, cupboard, safe & minifridge. No breakfast. For a seaview, only Room 303 has it and it was simply unforgettable staying there for two nights.

Because there was few guests in the hotel due to the low season, we feel like we had access to private lift up to our room.

Karon Cafe Inn: Roomy and cheap...

Well, I find this place is cheap and not that far from the beach.. Cost me TB1400 nett per night for their suite room & it includes breakfast...

Only abt 2 minutes walk to the beach and the guesthouse is located between those many lanes that we see in Phuket...

The owner owned a few storeys shophouses where the 1st storey is a restaurant and the rest of the floor are the rooms.. By the way, the owner has 2 shophouses, the other is named "Las Margaritas" and my room is located there, only few shophouses away from Karon Cafe Inn...

The only thing that I don't really like about the place is that the bed is too hard that I got back aches sleeping on it for 2 days.. The water from the shower is too "little" & flow of water is "slow"(*Hope u understand what i mean*) that i find it difficult to wash my hair.. It took me more than 5 minutes to get the shampoo off my hair!

I stayed in their suite room that has the following amenities:

- Large Refrigerator (It's empty so u can fill it up yourself)
- Cable TV with CNN, HBO, Cinemax, BBC, XZYTE, MTV, Star Sports, Discovery, American Series, and more.
- Air-Conditioning w/ individual room thermostat that really works
- Clean Ensuite Bathrooms w/ hot water showers
- Separate phone and power plugs for those who travel with their laptop and like to do e-mail, surf the net or, receive faxes directly and confidentially in their room
- Microwave Oven for reheating snacks

You have a whole row of shophouses of restaurants so you don't have to walk far to get food and at the end of the street is a small bazaar where u can get good cheap stuff. So, u got a place with a good shopping place with plenty of restaurants to choose from.

Shanti Lodge: Guesthouse @ Chalong

For THB550 a night (double/shared bathroom). Room is very spacious -- no TV though. Plus point - free internet access. Be warn that there r lotsa mosquitoes!

Food is great here -- cooked on the spot using fresh ingredients!

P.S. Pls confirm the room rate with them -- on the website, it states THB550 but they charged me THB650. They finally relent when I asked them to check my confirmation email which stated the price as THB550.
