Kata Center Inn: A Decent Place to Stay
This accommodation was ok if you like Kata Beach (we found it too commercial and left). It has free internet (one computer, so sometimes it is busy) and a nice bar/cafe downstairs (but it is noisy here, like most of Kata, since it is open to the street and also has music playing). However, make sure you don't get the top floor room adjacent to the balcony. I locked myself out one morning while my husband was asleep and went onto the balcony accessible from the hallway to knock on the window to wake him up since my door knocking had no effect - and found the window had no lock and could very easily be entered completely unnoticed. It is maybe a 10 minute walk to the beach from this accommodation and there are many shops nearby. Lots of Scandinavians stay here. Their website says that they take credit cards but when we checked out it was broken - I don't know if this is a permanent "broken" or not. The room itself was ok, though the bathroom does need to be refurbished. It was clean. No great view.
p.s. If you are like us and like a nice, quiet, uncrowded laid-back beach with nature, then try Nai Yang, right next to the airport (but not noisy) - it has a completely different character from Kata. Very nice, it is a long beach with some little restaurants right on the beach, romantic - you can eat with your feet in the sand!

Ao Phang Nga National Park: Accomodation at Ao Phang Nga National Park
This is the Ao Phang Nga National park Headquarters. But in it, there is accomodation (with simple amenities), a restaurant (very good food and environment), nature trail and easy acess to James Bond Island and Phang Nga Bay.
Personally, i've never stayed here before but i always came here to eat whenever i am in Phang Nga or driving to Koh Samui.
There is only one air-conditioned room with queen-sized bed and toilet going for 900baht. They also have rooms for 6, 10 or 15 people at below 2000baht for each room.
Its a very natural environment as there is no hotel offering accomodation that is very close to nature. The other one i know that is near to it and is posh, is Baan Krating Jungle Beach Resort.
Unique Quality: Very close to nature. Good for nature lovers. Please refers to my travelogues undert Ao Phang Nga National Park and James Bond Island ro view its surroundings.

Phang Nga Bay Resort: Phang Nga Hotel
This is a resort at the Phang Nga Bay itself, facing the sea. Its a good place for those going to James Bond Island or wanting a remote and peaceful place to stay, away from the crowded island of Phuket.
Nearby the hotel, 3 minutes walk away, you can chartered boats going to James Bond Island, Phang Nga Bay, Khao Ma Ju, Khao Khian, Tham Lod Lek, Tham Lod yai, Kao Pan Yee, Khao Ping Gun, etc....
Unique Quality: Hotel facilities include swimming pool with natural surroundings, air-conditioned sknooker room, 2 dining facilities: an indoor coffee shop, and an outdoor, riverside restaurant, 2 well-euipped conference rooms and a well-stocked souvenirs corner.

Rent a house
As we were on a low budget , we rented a house and were very pleased .
Two bedrooms , small living room , kitchen and bathroom.
The biger bedroom is with air-condition and other rooms with ventilators. Quite OK.
Also close to the beach , less than 5 minutes walking.
Unique Quality: We were very happy with this accomodation because we met nice local people and became
good friends .

Blue Ocean Resort, Patong Beach, Phuket: Blue Ocean Resort, Patong Beach, Phuket
Under normal circumstances staying in Patong wouldn't be my first choice but if you do this place isn't at all bad. For such a busy resort it is actually pretty quiet, apart from some building work that is going on currently (November 2003).
Unique Quality: Big rooms that are new, clean and comfortable. Very interesting showers - the water comes out of a big orifice rather than a normal shower head. I think this is to make it like a waterfall! The rooms have A/C, minibars and TVs with a good selection of English language channels. There is a smallish swimming pool with a pool bar. The lowest cost rooms are 1800 Baht a night.

LK Guest house: agood location friendly staff
LK Patonghouse is a nice quiet guest house about 300 meters from the beach and 300 meters from the Banglà road.Rooms are spacious all with tv dvd fridge and wireless connection.I apid 800 baht(about 17 euro) for a double room and had really a good time. The management is italian but, for my great surprise, the hotel was not full of italians, that was the thing I was worried about: being thousend miles from home and listen people commenting football matches on monday morning.
Unique Quality: The only bad sides of the hotels are: no breakfast and no lifter, so when you get a room at the 4th floor, expect some phisical exercise.

Boomerang Inn: Patong's budget stay - Boomerang Inn
We only stayed here for a night on 16 Jan 07 after our 4 days and 4 nights liveaboard scuba diving trip onboard The Really Wicked Witch arranged by Sea King Divers.
The service was quite good even though there was a miscommunication on the number of rooms but was resolved promptly.
The twin and quad-sharing rooms come with attached bathroom. TVs, bar fridges and wardrobes are standard.
I will recommend this if you are on a budget. Cheers!
Unique Quality: There is a small swimming pool for you to have a dip and enjoy the sun without having to go to the beach!
If your rooms are along the street, you can enjoy your breakfast at your balconies!
I will upload some of the photograhs shortly...

Talang Guesthouse: cheap and friendly - perfect for backpackers
It's cheap, for only 300BTH per night you'll get a spring bed (no bug or mosquito), a big ceiling fan, a clean shower (not shared) and breakfast. It's a perfect place for backpackers.
Unique Quality: Talang Guesthouse is located in Phuket Town (the center of the Phuket Island).
Since, this is a budget hotel, its staffs are quite familiar on how to get great experiences in Phuket on tight budget . Just ask them the cheapest way to go to the beach or to the Phi Phi Island or James Bond Island, etc, etc and they will provide you with perfect tips.
