from Phuket to Kuala Lumpur

by Sasha102572

Hello this is my first and certainly wont be the last for asking you guys about traveling!

Anyway, I will be travelling with a colleague to Phuket from Singapore via Tiger Airways which i would want to thank from the bottom of my heart for providing us the option to fly in a very cheap air fare.

Alright now for the question, Please tell me where I can buy a bus ticket from Phuket to Hatyai and from Hatyai to Kuala lumpur? and how much would it cost us for a bus or train ride for those destinations?

Thanks so much for helping me out!

You can buy the Phuket to Hat Yai ticket at the Phuket bus terminal in town. If you leave in the morning, you'll probably get to Hat Yai by late afternoon. There are both buses and minivans. Minivans are faster, but are usually cramped with limited space. Bus, I believe, has hourly service. You are better off staying overnight at Hat Yai and continue your journey on the following day.

It'll take you 2 days to get there. If you can afford it, fly instead. Have a look at Air Asia and Malaysian Airlines.

There are a few liners plying Hat Yai to Kuala Lumpur; Maju Express and Konsortium to name a few. There are agents abound that will arrange that for you. The Konsortium bus stops near the Novotel Hotel and the journey takes around 9 hours. You could try contacting the Konsortium outlet on +66 7435 1280. Ask for the person who speaks English.

Travel Tips for Phuket

MONEY in Thailand

by seagypsy

Yes, in several travel forums it seems many travelers to Thailand are reconsidering using ATMs with the new 150baht fee that's tacked on by Thai Banks. It seems that travelers' checks are going to be making a comeback since it only costs 33bahts or only ~U$1 fee per TC transaction so as Johnalex above advised, it's better to cash/exchange large denominations and it's a waste to use U$20 TCs.
Also using credit cards frequently incur a 3% surcharge by merchants and doesn't include the foreign exchange fee that your CC company charges on each transaction.
Anyways, have a great trip.

Do not be mistaken, there is a lot of ladyboys (men who look like women) in Thailand, especially in Phuket. They often attract clients for night clubs. Sometimes, you can't even differenciate them from "real" girls!!!

Secret Beaches.

As a local I should really be keeping this a secret but I don't think many people will visit my page, so I am considering this as a prize for those who do stop by and end up using this tip.

Save on Souveniers

by coboo about Bargain! Haggle! Don`t pay full price!

All over Phuket, you will find craft and souvenir shops. I guarantee you EVERYTHING is marked up 100% or more. Never ever take the first price offered to you, counter with 50% to get a fair deal. Also, if you buy more than one of an item, bargian further for a volume discount. Another tip: bargaining works best if you tag team, the first person shows interest, the second tries to drive the price down . Literally, try to get prices dropped by 50%, they set prices very high to milk every baht they can out of the tourists.

I guess the best thing about phuket if youre on a lads holiday is the nightlife. theres loads of it...massive clubs, bars, go go bars, ladyboy bars! be warned though, theres loads of transvestites and dodgy looking 'he shes'!

In 2005, the best bars were : Banana's, Suzy Wongs(For a laugh - get to spank girls), Tiger, Safari(i never went but mates said it was good), plus many many other bars for a beer!
