IT IS SAFE TO GO TO PHUKET

by qsandy

Me & my friends will be going to Phuket on 15 April 2010. I heard that there's a state of emergency in Bangkok, but how about in Phuket, it is safe to go?
Does anyone just came back from Phuket, may be can give us some advise.

Thank you. Fr Sandy

Phuket is not (yet?) effected by the protests in Bangkok.

When we were in Phuket last year we had just come from Bangkok and there was trouble there in Bangkok, but Phuket was totally unaffected, there is a lot is distance between Phuket and Bangkok and they are not involved in the political issues.

Phuket should be good to go.

you should be good to go, just stand clear of protesters, go the other way and you will be fine

by HansDK

Thought it would be difficult to stand clear of something that is not there;-)?

Go Go Go Go...

There are no problems in Phuket only in Bangkok but Bangkok also will ok if stay away from the Protesters.

What you are also forgeting is that Phuket is a large Island and so all the Major tourist Resorts like Patong and Karon etc... are miles away from Phuket town.

Take everybodys advice and go and have a good time in Thailand.

Phuket is pefectly safe to go. On the issue of safety you ought to be more concerned about safety on the roads. Enjoy your trip!!

There doesn't appear to be any current warnings in Phuket at this time. It may be worth checking local travel advisories in your home country before you leave though...

Travel Tips for Phuket

Online Thai - English dictionary

by Tina-Perth

I found this website and think it's a great resource, so thought I'd add it here in case someone needs a translation or wants to learn how to speak a bit of Thai before their visit. You can enter an english word and get not only the Thai translation, but also audio is available on many of the translations - very helpful!

Finally get to do paragliding!

by PotatoChips

Well, always wanted to do paragliding and it was a fun experience. Although I thought it rather strange to paraglide with a guy above me on the same glide (that dude basically directed the glide while i hang helplessly like a puppet going ooh-ing and ah-ing at the scene below :) ).

I actually went haggling along the beach with Marcus and found one that gave me the price I wanted. There are a lot of people offering the same sports on Phuket beach itself so hangling to save a few bahts wasn't such a bad idea :)

Pretty soap carvings

by earthboundfaerie about Siam Safari Souvenir Shop

You'll see this store where you stop after an elephant trek at Siam Safari. I think it's sort of their souvenir shop there. Buy the pretty soap carvings! The man selling it showed us how they make it and it was just amazing how they carve these regular soaps into beautiful flowers and even elephants and paint it with such pretty colors afterwards. They then put it into little handpainted containers that were just as pretty. 200Baht for the big ones but well worth it since the other soap carvings i found in Phuket or even Bangkok were not as nice as his works and a lot of the soap carvings i found only had plastic containers.

Simon Cabaret

by Cathy&Gary about Simon cabaret

Simon Cabaret

This is a Lady/Boy miming (lip sync) show. Its a good show with great costumes and sets and is suitable for all ages.

If you want to get someone stirred a bit by the comedians buy VIP seats, they are not much dearer.
Just watch out when you go outside after the show, beware of the Performers waiting for photo opportunities, they are Greedy and Aggressive.

Dont go over near them and it will be ok.
You can take photos during the show but definately no video cameras.

There are a lot more photos on my link below:
Cathy and Garys Travel Pages No dress code really, most people were just in casual clothes.

Thailand Domestic Flights to Phuket

by sarahreynold

There are now 5 airlines operating flights from Bangkok to Phuket. Thai Airways and bangkok Airways are full service airlines with flights from Bangkok to Phuket.
The budget airlines with flights from Bangkok to Phuket are Thai Air Asia, Nok Air and One-2-Go airlines. These Thailand domestic flights are good value whether flying with a full service airlines or a budget airline. The budget airlines flying to Phuket from bangkok offer cheap fares, the earlier you book in general the cheaper the air fare.
