Affordable, nice location and good value ...

It was a hotel perch on a higher ground in Kata.

Distance - just a stone throw from the beach..yippie, not far from Prontep Cape and Wat Chalong

Staff - friendly and helpful staff

Food% - quite affordable

Unique Quality: - On a higher ground so if you are afraid of tsunami , I think this is a good bet.

- Room high enough to oversee the stretch of Kata Beach..but request that in advance

- Not as touristy as compared to Patong but can be quiet at night but you can always go to Patong ya know

A great view but steep climb ;-)

Decided to stay here as my friends were. A fairly large hotel with all the amenities expected of a 4-star hotel (so I am told).

The staff there are so welcoming and always smiling ! Very good for a hotel, no ?

The rooms there are quite large and spacious. A little too luxurious for my normal travels but hey ! its good to indulge once in a while :-))

Unique Quality: I love the view from my room balcony of the beach.

The pool area is nice as well. Sufficient deckchairs for all with alert and attentive staff.

The only thing is that some of the rooms are rather high up and there are no lifts - you have to walk. A little bit of walking during a holiday is good for the heart, yes ? ;-)

Jen's One Night In Phuket *2005* (again) !

by jenniferchin

I was in Phuket again last weekend (on 5 Feb 05, actually). Some friends I met in KL a few days ago, invited me to join them for a weekend in Phuket.
Checked on my schedule that weekend ~ no need to come in to office + managed to get unbelievable cheap tickets to Phuket ~ so I was going !

Since I was there only for one night, there wasnt much 'sightseeing' to do. All we (Stephane, Christelle, Stephanie and me) did was mainly to head to the beach to catch the sun and plunge into the water. So, I have lots of pictures of sunsets and the beach ..etc, but not much other 'useful' tips in the conventional sense ;-)

We hung around Kata Noi beach. It was a little surreal there ~ felt like it was low season. But ever since the Tsunami tragedy, the tourism in Phuket have suffered badly. There was only very few tourist about. The hotel I stayed in had only less than 20 rooms booked. There were many closed shops and rebuilding + reconstructing was going on everywhere in the island.

Life goes on.

Flight AK872 from KL was delayed for an hour.
I was pissed.
Frantic sms-es to Stephane to let him know of my misery of being stuck in the airport.
An hour later, we took off --> HOORAY !!

Phuket was HOT and SWELTERING.
A smile on my face.
I am here :-)

Got into a limotaxi (650bhat oneway - non negotiable) to Orchidacea Resort over in Kata beach, south west of the island.
Journey was long - an hour.
Truly glad I was in the comforts of air-conditioning :-)

Found them lounging at the poolside.
Shall we go to the beach ?

In the sweltering heat and unforgiving sun, even a 5 minute walk seems like forever.
But worth the short torture.

The sun suddenly relented. Its rays were not so strong after all !
Its nearly 5pm (local time) and people were slowly coming out from their hiding places.

The beach was long and water quite calm (& not too cold).
All of us stripped off clothes and plunged into water.
It was very relaxing and cool there.
Stayed there for an hour or so, until it got too cold for us.

Then it was lying in the sun and catching whatever's left of it.

So we waited and waited for the sun to set.
We were not the only ones.

After seeing the transformation of the skies from startling bright blue to yellow-gold, to reddish glow to deep red, we could finally leave.

Headed back to the hotel to shower and get ready for dinner.

Decided to have a drink first as we were not too hungry.
Chang beer is really nice ~ especially after a long day in the sun !!

For dinner, we headed out to Patong (250Bhat oneway from Kata).
The tuktuk driver took us to a restaurant in the middle of that area.

All boys .. Full of boys ~ Old boys, Young boys, Fat boys, Slim boys, Pretty boys, Biker boys, Non-thai boys, Thai boys .. we were at the probably the Gay area of Patong.
No problem, as long as the food is good ;-))

After a good dinner, we had coffee in a little cafe opposite the restaurant.
By then, we were all so tired and sleepy. Unanimously, we decided to head back.

The time spent in the sun,the Chang beer and the good food did us all in ... zzzzzzzzz ...

Next morning, was up bright and early.
We went for our breakfast in the hotel and what a spread it was !!

Bacon, ham, eggs, different types of breads and danish, a good salad selection, wonderful freshly cut fresh fruit, local thai breaksfast of noodles, rice and cooked meats, coffee, tea, fruit juices, cereals ...etc.
I got dizzy just looking at the array !

After breakfast, we were off to the beach again !
The weather was good - clear skies, sunny sun and a cool breeze in the air.

We played hide & seek with the sun as we keep looking for the shade to lie down.

Once in a while, we were in the water, to seek refuge from the heat.

And then I was off !!
The taxi was waiting for me.
Got to the airport on time and it was Goodbye Phuket !

I will be back soon :-)

Hi!
Mini buses leaving airport to certain places, but before you need to buy a ticket to Kata on the entrance of the airport. It`s not expensive, but is kinda slow. Bus driver won`t leave if the bus is not full. Normally, it`s 1 hour ride.

Hey KennyNeo! You're coming to Phuket???? Please drop me a pm and maybe we can meet up!

To answer your question, just take a metered cab. Go outside the terminal building (but don't cross the road), turn to your right and walk to the far south end. You will see a big TAXI METER sign under the ramp leading up to departures.
