We stayed for seven glorious nights at the Patong Merlin and loved every single minute of our stay.
We were booked in a twin pool view room. The view to the main pool was beautiful. it was nice to sit out on the verandah in the afternoon and just look at the view.
The room has fridge and TV. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were modern.
My only critisism, if you could call it that, was that the windows in the bathroom were frosted glass so if you were not sharing the room with someone close to you then you may see more of your roommate than anticipated. (Could be good or bad)
Bell boys were very help with our bags upon checkin and check out.
We did not use room service as there were many restaurants/cafes on site we wanted to try

    Unique Quality: Where to start........
We loved using the pool in the new wing.
    1) it was quiet, the kids staying at the resort mainly used the main pool
    2) Swim up bar
    3) swim up bar!!!!!!!
The hotel has 4 pools to choose from, all have ample pool chairs and drink/food service is offered
We had the intention to use the gym but ran out of time. Although basic it has the minimum cardio/weight equiptment for a good work out.
We didnt use the laundry service. Even though it was cheap in comparision to home we chose to go across to the market stall opposite to the main enterance of the hotel. They do yr laundry for 60baht per 1kg. Drop it off one day and its ready the next afternoon.
Hotel taxis are more expensive than tuk tuks on the street but if you are going longer distance like we did (up to the big buddha) its was definately worth paying extra for a knowledgable driver and air conditioning!
The hotel has a spa that looks beautiful. the prices are a little more expensive than the venues outside of the hotel. We did notice on facebook that the hotel spa offers periodic specials so keep an eye out of the hotels facebook page if you are planning a trip to the Patong Merlin
The Hard Rock Cafe is next to the front enterance to the hotel and has an out door stage with bands nightly.

To walk up to Bangla Road it would probably take you 10 to 15 minutes without stopping to shop/massage (tempting I know)

Directions: The hotel spans the whole block. The road at the front enterance runs up to Jung Salong with markets on either side. Cross the road at the back of the hotel and you will find yourself on Patong Beach.

    Conveniently located

We were recommended this hotel by others that had stayed here. We were unable to get a pool view room, and this this room is on the opposite side from the beach. From our room we had a good view of the hills and the markets as you can see from the photo (we always got a good bargain at these markets as well).

We got a nice cold drink and a smile when we arrived.

The one thing we weren't happy about was the bed, hard, not to our liking We didn't make any fuss as we were only there for a few nights and everything else was enjoyable. We had also just left 5 star hotel in Singapore so sometimes it's a bit hard to compare going from one to another to be fair!

We had breaky included, so much to eat, lots of fresh fruit, eggs freshly cooked on the spot however you like them. We had a really early flight out on the day we left and had to leave well before breakfast was searved, they prepared a little takeaway breakfast bag complete with a muffin and juice for us to take with us. We have stayed in a lot of hotels and this is the only time this has ever been done for us!

The room was clean and secure. Air-con was good. Everything worked in the room okay.

There is a money exchange directly out front on the beach side that we used, lots of supermarkets to buy supplies nearby, tour desks, tuk tuks out front if you don't want to walk. All in all we found it very handy.

They also have a set of scales they will bring to your room so you can sort your luggage out before you leave for the airport.

Directions: Southern end of Patong Beach, 10 minutes walk to Bangla Road

An oasis in a throng of decrepitude...

We were booked here as part of a flight/hotel package deal.

Service was average standard; Neither spectacularly good or bad.

Rooms were clean. Girl complained a bit about a noisy lizzard in the room waking her up during the night, but it didn't bother me.

The included morning breakfast buffet was the best part about this hotel. Good selection of food.

Hotel clientelle was mostly Australian families, and the odd old guy there to catch HIV.

I don't think I'll ever find my way back to Patong, as it isn't a very enjoyable place to visit. If I did, though, I'd consider staying at this hotel again.
I would recommend this place to someone else, for the fact that it's clean, and is close to the action (if that's what you're looking for).

Unique Quality: This hotel compound is built lengthwise, on a thin piece of land. Three pools in the central area, with hotel wings on the outermost surround. Entrance/reception at one end, with the beach entrance at the far end. Cross the (busy!) street and you are at the south end of Patong beach.
You will be accosted by taxi/tuktuk/tour drivers upon exit onto the beach road, so you will not have to go far if you are looking for transport.

7-11 and restaurants across the street from the reception entrance, so you can find grub easily.

Directions: Towards the southern-end of Patong beach.

  • Fantastic Family hotel

Rooms were fantastic. Great location, not far from the beach, or Bangla Street. Across the road we found great little markets off the main drag and found that they were cheaper, than along the main road . 2 fantastic located pools. Service very nice when we first got there as they served us with icey cold drinks, and after the ride from the airport it was well needed. Great buffet breakfast, and if you could not find a nice restaurant to eat at, the buffet nights at the hotel were generally very good with great service, and explosive cocktails. This hotel has a bar over looking the beach which was great and happy hour with cheap drinks that were always icey cold. Doctor and dentist facilities. And the most amazing beautician service - pedicure/manicure with complete pampering cost approximately $15 Aussie dollars for the two. And the most UNFORGETTABLE was the massage service. Some people may complain a little bit more expensive than getting it on the beach, but you are treated as a king/queen on arrival and this continued whilst having the massage.

Unique Quality: always very happy staff. EXCEPTIONALLY CLEAN. Fantastic service. Beautician brilliant, and the massage service I am already missing after getting home after 3 days, (withdrawals ++++)

    Patong Merlin

The Patong Merlin Hotel is a big favourite with Australians. (Maybe that's why we never stayed there again, it felt like we were in a hotel in Australia!!).

The hotel has every facility you would want including 3 beautiful swimming pools, lots of sun lounges, gymnasium, tennis court, games room and massage centre.

We found the rooms to be very small and cramped and the balcony was tiny. We actually had to ask to be moved due to the overpowering stench of mould in our room. (We were originally on the ground floor) We were moved a floor higher and this room was fine, there was no smell.

We have no real complaints about this hotel, its just for the price per night there are much nicer places to stay. (With bigger rooms) Everyone has their favourite hotels and areas to stay in and for us Patong Merlin isnt one of them.

    Great accomodation, Patong Beach.

This hotel was excellent, the decore is a bit 80's, however very clean, serviced very well, (the 1st hotel I have stayed in where bed sheets are changed daily). All facilities are in good condition, great air conditioning and a balcony for every room. 3 large pools with built in spa style area's and a waterfall, the hotel is built around these pools and is at the southern end of Ptong Beach and stretches from 200 Year Road through to Beach Road. Breakfast included is of an excellent quality with a wide variety for all tastes. Service overall is excellent, very comfortable and very helpful staff.

Highly reccomended, We are staying there again.

Unique Quality: Staff Service & friendliness
    Swimming Pools
    Comfortable king size beds
    great balconies

Directions: South end of Patong Beach, on Thawiwong Road.

    great location in patong

good sized rooms with a reasonable balcony, go for the pool view upgrade unless you want a view of the hotel next door. breakfast is well worth it, heaps to choose from, hot and cold. directly located across the beach and next to all the shopping you could want, 5- 10 minute walk from all the nightlife.

Unique Quality: three large pools ranging from 8ft deep, to kiddy wading areas, grest for the family as well as couples.

Directions: southern end of patong beach

Hi Everyone
I am going to Phuket on the 9th July and staying at the Patong Merlin, has any one else stayed there and if yes what were your thoughts on the whole place. We have booked apool view room and dont know what floor level would be best, quick access to the pool if you have a ground floor room or next level up fpr view but then you might get blocked view by palm trees any way. any info would be appreciated.

Hi Dee. I noticed your post and see you are departing soon for your trip to Phuket. I hope you get the info you requsted regarding the Patong Merlin. I have just posted a similar topic. We are staying at the same hotel late December and have similar questions to yours. I would love to hear your feedback on the hotel when you return. We have requested 5 ground floor, interconnecting rooms as there are 12 of us going (6Adults / 6Kids). I have heard that building block A (where the reception/foyer is) has the best rooms and have recently been renovated. Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thankyou in advance.
