Prince Edouard Apartments

by branx

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has stayed at these apartments or knows much about them. We are returning to Phuket over xmas/ new year 2010 with our family which includes adult children and are having trouble finding place to accomodate 4 without booking 2 rooms(expensive). Swiss Palm Beach Hotel is the only other one we can find to accomate us all, information on it would also be helpful.
Thanks

That time in Phuket is high season, so it is hard to find a place to accomodate four, but it is possible. I know that the sides streets in Phuket along Patong beach have many rooms to let at about 25USD a night, you should check them out. Some are better than hotel rooms, but with children, they are your main concern for comfort and piece of mind. Check into hotel deals in Phuket through the Bangkok Post web site and find a deal that they advertise. You might get lucky if they have a slow season and everyone is on sale. Expensive is different for families, if you give a range to a travel agent there, they can find great package deals for you, and you will be surprise.

I recommend this website: http://www.staythailand.net There are many hotels and resorts to choose from. Most of them are not too expensive if you look carefully.
Moreover, there is some info about Phuket that you may need to know. Thanks for visiting that site,it would be appreciate that if you think this site is useful, please tell your friends. Thanks Good Holiday.

Hi Branx, I can only help with Swiss Palm as we stay there for months every year. It is in a far better location (next door to Gracelands Hotel) at the northern end of Patong Beach and only 150 metres from the beach. The 2 bedrooms apartments are big and nicely decorated. Swiss Palm is a great place to stay, their restaurant and massage area is cheap with no added taxes, there is a nice pool with swim up pool bar.

About 2 mins walk away is a 7/11, chemist, laundry, sports bar etc etc. Then about 5 mins walk is all the shops, restaurants atms, money changers etc.
I have loads of photos of the hotel and apartments, all our friends and family stay there now, just click on my name.

Travel Tips for Phuket

Airport Taxi Limousine Service

by shane_02

This is the receipt for the service of Phuket International Airport Limousine Service. The taxi is in the form of Toyota sedan model. It charges 550baht to Patong and more expensive if you are heading to Karon, Nai Harn or Kata beach.

So its wiser to use the cheaper transport, passenger vans. But be prepared that you may not be the first to be dropped off at your hotel doorstep as there are other passengers who will be boarding the same vehicle as you. And the driver will send whichever passenger's destination is nearer.

Save your time and energy if you think you can get a cheaper public transport as Phuket is unlike Bangkok. There is no tuk-tuk or public taxi that roaming near the airport. Most taxis are private cars whose owners offer airport-hotel pickups at the rate similar or close to the airport limousine taxi rate.

The conclusion is either you arrange a pickup from your hotel or take of one the 2 services offered by the airport. And be prepared that before you arrive at your destination, you will probably be sent to a local travel agency and let the agency do some marketing to try to sell you some local package tours or hotel rooms at special rates.

Liveaboards from Phuket

by DSwede

I cannot tell you enough how good the diving is while living on a live aboard for 8 days. I've done it many times before and I'll do it again. The west coast of Thailand has wonderful underwater flora and fauna. We even saw some leopard sharks when we crossed into Burmese waters!

The MV Anggun left from Phuket and dove in Thai waters for a few days. We then stopped in Kawthaung Burma for our entry Visas, then proceeded to dive the Burmese waters for ~6 days. It had plenty of charging stations for photographers as well as general assembly tables for gear. The crew was superb.

Shopping for SeaPearl

by bobvanorg about Pearl of the Andaman

All their pearl is being harvested from a pearl farm on phuket. The Shop Manager can take you on a tour and live SeaPearl in their local Aquarium. SeaPearl I went shopping on my last day in phuket, since i wanted to get a searpearl for my mother back home in germany. Now at this shop one can do the whole pearl-farming tour before he decides (or not) to buy a necklace or pearl earrings (like i did). Luckily i had my GF with me, who got me a 40% discount on a regular priced 300 USD earring set. Nontheless i was impressed by the live shells in their aquarium and the very nice shop outlet. A HUGE selection of all kind of pearls are there on display.

Tuc tucs a go go!

by joolssss

TPerhaps the easiest way to get around Phuket without actually hiring a personal driver is by Tuc tuc, ALWAYS negotiate a price before you set off. The drivers are very friendly and accomodating and will often show you points of interest on your way around!
