Getting From Phuket Airport to Patong Beach
by CEP1863
Hi
Can anyone tell me the easiest way to get from Phuket Airport to Patong Bay. I will have a lot of dive gear with me and so my main priority is the ease of journey. Are taxis a viable option? What should I expect to pay? Are there any tourist traps to avoid at the airport?
Many thanks
Clare

Hi there - There are many taxis at the airport. The best thing to do is to bargain with them - We arranged a transfer so we had no problem. Dont take the first taxi that you ask - first ask around and then take the best deal. I have not as yet experienced a tourist trap at the airport and I have been to Phuket 5 times already. Good luck

You can hire a mini van if you have extra people, I was there in May and five people, one van was 1000 bahts.could have fit 8. I think a regular taxi will get you there for 300 to 400 bahts. I go diving with my gear and the taxi would be your best bet. Be sure to ask for a firm price first before you hire a cab, also see if anyone is going to the same area and share a cab. I use scuba cat on beach road to dive, if you never gone on overnight trips, try to go to the Similan Nation Park in Myanmar 4 days 3 nights live aboard, could see a Manta Ray! Happy dive Cheers Tommy x

There are metered taxi now at HKT. Once you walk out of the terminal, ignore everyone trying to talk to you, turn right for the taxi stand. It is cheaper than a fixed price "taxi". Make sure the guy turns on the meter.

If its just you & your gear then a meter taxi is the way to go. They have been at the airport for quite a few years. You pay 100baht at the Taxi kiosk, turn right after exciting the arrivals hall and walk about 30 metres, then you pay whatever is on the meter, will be about 300 (so 400baht total including booking fee)

Travel Tips for Phuket
Chalong Bay
by Adeline_Foo
This sheltered bay has become a favourite mooring point for visiting yachts and is the jumping off point for tour boats and dive boars heading out to the islands south of Phuket. It is a hive of activity during the day as it is home to a number of boat yards and tour buses come and go. It is a scruffy working set of docks and not a pleasure beach.
Basics
by carmenlilly
depending on how long you stay, but actually one doesn't need much there !!! light clothes! even in the rainy season it's hot and humid!!! probabaly bring sth. against stomach problems, you'll never know ...
SUNSCREEN !!!! Get hold of or bring a water-proof underwater camera, you can take really cool pics in the sea or even the pool then !!!
Ko Phi-Phi
by robertgaz
Ko Phi-Phi consists of two islands, Phi-Phi Leh and the larger Phi-Phi Don. They are located about 40km's from Phuket.
Most boat trips will take you to Phi-Phi Don which has some fantastic fine white sandy beaches, awesome towering limestone cliffs and clear waters for snorkelling.
Shopping Centre
by Tina-Perth about Central Festival Shopping Centre
The Central Festival Shopping Centre is an attractive, modern complex which encompasses a wide range of shops. Central is located next to Big C Shopping Centre, along Bypass Road and not far from Tesco Lotus Shopping Centre, so a visit to all of the main shopping precincts is possible to do in one trip.
It is handy to note that there is a tourist area where you will find money exchangers altogether, along with some booking agents for trips. The Central Festival Shopping Centre has a reputation for being expensive, but we found it to be actually the cheapest place in Phuket for us to buy our whitegoods.
There are many fashion stores (including Be Be and Armani Exchange), a department store, hairdressing and beauty treatment salons and some great restaurants here.
Central Festival is the highest profile and probably most popular shopping centre in Phuket. You will certainly find great value here. I find cosmetics can be cheaper in the Central Department Store than in Perth. My trip to the T & G Hairdressing Salon was a pleasant surprise for quality of my cut, treatment, colour and the price.
Make sure you apply for a tourist discount card which entitles you to 5% discount. If you pay at the Central Department Store with an American Express Credit Card, you will receive a further 5% discount on any purchases.

by Cathy&Gary about Tattoo Bar
Mit and Wat are two brothers who own Patong Tattoo.
We have been friends with them for many years now and they have recently opened a new bar opposite their shop in Patong Beach.
They are lovely, honest, hard working guys and do everything they can to help support their family including their parents.
They are both also fantastic tattooists, very artistic and skilful, have a look at my link below it will take you to info re their shop Patong Tattoo.
We have no doubt that the boys will turn their new bar called the Tattoo Bar into another successful venture.
