This is not my favorite thing about Phuket and because i dont know where to categorize this so i've decided to put this tip on the general tip category.
Laundry Shops are everywhere in Phuket. They charge 50THB per kilo but maximum 3 kgs. So dont worry if you will just bring copule of clothes when you travel to Phuket. There will alwyas be your friendly laundromat who will help you with your laundry needs :-)

This isn't so much as a cultural tip, its about changing money. As you can see from this photo, I got A$100 changed at the money changing booth which was across the road from the hotel. Here, I got the rate of 23.66 for cash, but at the HOTEL, I only got only 21.50 for travellers cheques, which was a difference of 216 Baht in my pocket! The reason we changed the travellers cheques only in the hotel was becuase you need your passport for this, and we didn't want to take our passports across the road, as you don't need them to change cash.
Sleep in a floating hut!
by joolssss
We arrived at Chieow Laan Lake to board a longtail boat for an hour before we reached the floating rafthouses. the trip there through a lake surrounded by jungle with Gibbons howling an fish eagles overhead was spectacular enough! When we saw the rafthouses they looked so cool!. We were welcomed with a drink and shown to our hut. We had one rght near the end with 4 matresses on the floor with a mossie net over them. At the back of the hut was a private jetty for us to dive off into the lake! The houses were connected to the eating "room" by a jetty. The los are off the jetty and up a hill...please take your own loo roll it is not supplied! These toilets are fine but can get a bit whiffy later on in the day and theres no flush, just a bucket of water to throw down!
Food here was great, fried fish/chicken with rice or thai noodles etc. The trip we took was an early morning boat ride to hear and see the gibbons which was one of the most truly breathtaking things I have done! And we took a walk through the jungle ( take waterproof sandals as you walk through rivers!) and through a cave which is a lot under water so make sure you can swim and its pitch black and full of bats and spiders, but at the same time quite safe, my 10 year old son did it!
We did this through Limestone lake tours who were brill and looked after us and Iat our guide really knew his stuff, cant rate them enough, Thanks guys!
DVD's, Music CD's and Games
by slasty about Kitty's DVD's
The shop is located in Patong Tower just down and the opposite side from Sweet Restaurant. The front of the store is a bag store and behind this is the DVD and music store. Just enter the bag shop and someone will take you out the back. The shop stocks all the latest DVD's and some older ones, music CD's and games. The usual price is 100 baht each but think that they may have come down to 80 baht now. The owners are very honest and will tell you which ones are good quality and which ones are not. Will also let you test them on a DVD player inside the store. Last year they also gave me a CD carrier for all the movies for free. 80-100 Baht per disc movie of music CD

by yeikloen about Soi Crocodile
Mistaken a girl for a Katoey or Ladyboy... is just so normal especially in this stretch of Beer Garden, known as Soi Crocodile along Thanon Bangkhla. There is a nice little platform for these ladies to dance which can get quite wild sometimes.... !!!! See it to believe it. Anything you want.. even topless
