swiss palm

by japappy

Do these apartments have safes in rooms or at reception desk?

What is the best method of booking them from australia, they seem to want Bank transfer for the deposit is there a way of paying via visa card i have emailed them and no replies as yet to this question.

Is the breakfast worth the extra bhat or is breakfast better on the street?

Is the two bedroom delux apartment good as we have been quoted 25500baht including taxes and breakfast for 8 nights, there are three of us two adults and a 14 year old son?

thanks in advance

Travel Tips for Phuket

Night Bazaar

by shane_02

Although the biggest Night Bazaar is located at the Phuket Town, called Phuket Jatujak Market. This bazaar opens only twice a week which is on Saturday and Sunday from 4pm -10pm

However, there are some smaller night bazaars in Patong. They sell everything from the simplest, food to clothers, sourveniors and imitation branded bags.

Snorkelling anyone?

by fidainc

Attractive packages will be shoved in your face and you'll be spoilt for choices. Funny enough, in my experience its all the same package everywhere and they almost go to all the same places. But in Phuket the prices are a hell lot steeper. Recommended diving/snorkelling packages to be booked in Krabi instead :)

Hehe... spoiling market for Phuket! If they dun provide the equipment, move on to the next shop

Malling in Phuket

by blackace about Joo Ceylong Mall (Patong)

This is a new mall that opened in Patong. In fact, only the ground floor of one wing has opened whilst the other wing has a supermarket, Carrefour. There is sufficient parking in the basement and it looks like a number of brand shops will open here. There's also a hotel but I'm not sure if it's in a separate building. When we visited, there was an exhibit, and surprisingly, the items being sold were much cheaper than what you would find along the shops in Patong. The supermarket is well stocked, although it was a bit funny that they wouldn't sell any liquor individually before 5pm. You could purchase however, in boxes or in bulk. I believe this is the law.
I should mention that there is a mall on the outskirts of Phuket town, Central Festival, but it looks like it is deteriorating. The public toilets do not have water and in general, are not clean. Some of the shops are empty and a number of food shops have closed.

The Colours of The Night

by sheliadecastro about Simon cabaret

You will be thrilled and amazed how these "lady boys" can be so pretty and has a good figure.
This is a show not to miss when you are travelling Phuket. This is an international show, with great costumes, music and performance by these lady boys. One of the lady boys is really funny and give us a great laugh with "her" performance. "She" even come to the audience and give a kiss with her really red lipstick. At the end of the show, all the ladyboys will queue up and you can choose which one you want to picture with. I didnt take picture with ladyboys, but I choose the most good looking guy to have my picture with him. (He's the dancer) It cost BHT 20 per picture. Daily shows starts at 7.30pm and 9.30pm. Price is at BHT 600 (list price) and I manage to get BHT450 with transport and VIP seat plus a free mineral water. Please have your dinner before you go there as there is no restaurant there, only cafe selling beers and liquors.

Warnings/tips about motorcycles

by SurfaceTravel

We rented a large 750cc motorcycle for a day in Phuket. The guy wanted my passport as deposit for the bike. No way I was going to do that. It was late in the morning and the guy hadn't rented it yet, so he agreed to keeping my driver's license instead. As they do not sell insurance or rent helmets (at least in 1995), we figured that we were on our own with zero protection if we crashed this thing.

Nothing happened and we had a great time, but my plan if we damaged it severely was to leave it in a ditch and fly away. Let him keep the driver's license.

Tip: it may be worth bringing along an old passport or some other "official" looking document and telling these guys your passport is with the tour group or some other BS story. Let you have the upper hand at the end of the transaction, should anything occur.
