Smacked right on Bangla Road!

Very clean and nicely decorated hotel at only 900BHT(during peak season) a night. Good place to stay if you are planning to get a lot of drinks that night.

Unique Quality: Free internet access.

Jewelry Factory in Phuket

by acid2004

Can someone please recommend respected jewelry factory in Phuket, where pearls and jewelry with pearls can be purchased?

Re: Jewelry Factory in Phuket

by xymmot

there is a pearl factory farm that you can take tours and buy the pearls, here is the address..they have a web site also::::

Phuket Pearl Industry Co., Ltd.
58/2 Moo 1 Thepkrasatri Road, Baan Sapam, Muang, Phuket 83200 Thailand
Phone: (66) 076.238.002, 076.377.730-1
IMO all jewerly has gone global and unless you know what you ARE buying, you can buy it at home. I buy some jewerly in Thailand, but after much research. A lot of quality control must be considered and different grades of stones. they cost can be more than half off, but you must bargin with them....hard....

IMHO unless you know the in's and out's of buying pearls its not worth the effort. Hire a tuk tuk and get them to take you there, they also get a petrol voucher for taking you there so barter hard for a good fare. The Pearl factory is about 1 hr from Patong by tuk tuk we did it incorporating a half day tuk tuk tour, so really barter hard as most tuk tuks will do it cheap if you go to various tourist stops eg. elephant rides etc.. as the get a kick back form all the operators.

Travel Tips for Phuket

Mobile phone sim card

by Kayles

I found phoning home on my Australian sim card very expensive (A$20 for 5 mins)so I bought a local SIM card from a mobile phone counter in a7/11 type convenience store just underneath the Ocean Plaza Shopping centre next to the Patong Merlin Hotel on the Patong Beach Road. This was in August 2007 and if my memory serves me correctly I think it was about thb800 to get set up which gave me some credit also. I then paid thb300 for a recharge card which gave me at least 3 ten minute phone calls home to Australia. The lady at the counter was so friendly and set me up and recharged my phone for me each time.

Ghost Houses

by Myndo

Next to the Buddhism Thais also pay homage to a world of gods and ghosts that influence every aspect of live.

You will hardly ever see a building without a small ghost hut (like in the picture: ok, thats a ghost villa) or at least an altar.

Here they worship the ghosts of the place. They are pleased with food, drinks and flowers or other little presents.

To make them angry may bring floods or other disasters.

If you are driving around, you may also notice that a lot of people honk the horns of their cars when driving over the highest points of a pass. This is also to greet the ghosts of that place. Just join in (can't be bad, right?)

BEACHES

by Onedragon

ALWAYS FUN AND ENJOYABLE r TO WALK ALONG A BEACH AND SEE THE BEAUTY THAT IT MIGHT HAVE TO OFFER.. ..
BUT LIVING IN HAWAII.. .I THINK IT IS HARD FOR OTHER PLACES TO COMPARE WITH THE WEATHER AND HUMIDITY AND GET FRESHNESS THAT THE BEACHES HERE b POSSESS...

Shop! Shop! Shop!

by runwitme about Central Festival, Phuket

We arrived to this mall on a motorbike. It was a long long journey from the Phuket Airport.

It is very tourist-friendly - there is a one stop Tourist Center for booking tours, making airline & hotel reservations, arranging car rentals, money exchange and even a shuttle bus service.

The anchor tenant is of course the popular Central Departmental Store.

It also houses, megastores like Supersports (www.supersports.co.th), Power Buy (www.powerbuy.co.th), B2S (www.b2s.co.th), Office Depot (www.officedepot.co.th), HomeWorks D.I.Y. (www.homeworks.co.th), TOPS supermarket (www.tops.co.th) and
SFX Coliseum cineplex.

Opens: 10.00 am - 10.00 pm everyday

Catch a film

by traceyspacey about Circle Cafe and Deli

There isn't a great deal of nightlife in Phuket town.

So we went to the Circle Cafe and Deli to watch a film. Films start at about 7.30pm/8pm. The wine is reasonable here and the food is good. No dress code
