More about SUNSET BEACH RESORT
Best Value, Best Position, Great Food, Great Staff

I recently stayed at the Sunset Beach hotel with my family. I have to admit i was a little nervous booking this resort as i hadn't heard anything about it. This was my 4th time to Phuket. The result....
We had the most amazing 10 days at the resort. Phuket itself is awesome - but this hotel made the experience greater. Its staff are always their to help, the food is abundant and so reasonably priced. Other hotels i've stayed at are always expensive, and you tend to eat in at Patong Beach. But here, you can eat with no worries of price. The massage & beauty service is incredible. We had a massage each day - for 1/5th of the price in sydney. The rooms are modern yet thai authentic, ours with a plasma TV and ocean views.
The sunset each night is amazing. The bar over looks the bay and is a great way to unwind each night. Yes the shuttle is handy, the position is perfect, the only problem i find, is that i didnt stay long enough.
An awesome family resort!

Good value at Sunset Beach

We stayed 8 nights at sunset Beach 2adults daughter and son of 15 and10,we stayed in one of the junior suites pleasantly surprised how large the 2 separate rooms were .The master bedroom contained very large comfortable bed and as requested to our travel agent we had 2 single beds in the main room. The junior suite was a very adequate base for our holiday, the only negative being the cleanliness of the bathroom.Breakfast was included the usual American style buffet ,plenty of it but lacking quality, this was made up for by the friendly staff. The swimming pool was great ,but there seemed to be many sharp expossed tiles the staff seemed to be replacing tiles daily. The shuttle into Patong was great every half hour you wouldnt want to walk to town with children along the busy road ,if you were walking it would take about 30 mins.Overall the hotel was very good value very friendly and I would reccomend for families or budget travellers.
fantastic!

We just spent 8 nights at Sunset Beach and had a great time. We were apprehensive at first about staying just out of Patong but this proved a huge plus as you could escape the shops (and the tuk tuks, massages and suits!!!) We had 2 interconnecting junior suites for a family of 2 adults and 3 teenagers - on the 4th flr overlooking the pool and beach. Heaps of room and fully equipped kitchen - not that we used anything but the fridge. Staff were helpful and friendly and we had some great thai meals at the hotel which were so cheap. Daily shuttle into Patong took 5 mins, it was in fact a ute with bench seats in the back, alot of fun, sometimes overcrowded and you could get wet if you were standing at the back! Nothing bad to say about this place. Had a thai massage at the hotel for 1 hr for $13 aust and that is dear compared to in town! Pool was beautiful with lots of lounges and never crowded while we were there. Would definitely go back here.
good value

very good but had few issues. I booked in march for a studio room and when i got there it was not avaliable after i reconfirm via email in late sept. They upgraded me to a junior suite which i did not have any view. I complained and they move me to a junior suited with abit of pool view. The beds a very hard eg solid timber with a 3 inch (75mm) mattress. The shower are alittle bit downfall as you have to hold the handpce to have a shower instead of having a cradle to hold it up. They have a cradle but its about 10cm above the bath. Near the outdoor dinning area and rock bar is some slate and when it rains its slippery. Apart from that it is a nice and friendly resort. I would go back as its excellant value for money. Junior suite is massive. If you want to go shopping and have a good time use the pool for 2 hours a day you dont need to have anything better. Spend the rest on yourself
OK accomodations

We stayed here for 4 nights in mid-October. We booked our trip sort of last minute and so had limited options available, and knew that Patong wasn't our first choice area to stay in. This was confirmed shortly upon arrival--we just aren't into the Patong scene, and generally took tuk-tuks over to Karon for the day (300-400 baht each way). But if you go to Patong, the free shuttle service from the hotel is pretty convenient, although you might want to get there a little early as it was often full when we took it and I think it ends around 9 pm. It is definitely not a pleasant walk along the beach road from the hotel to main Patong and takes at least 20 minutes, so I would recommend the shuttle or a tuk-tuk, which are plentiful around the hotel entrance. There is also very little to see right around the hotel, except for a couple other hotels and tiny minimart shops. There's a tiny beach across the road from the hotel, but it's right under all the road noise and full of debris.
Regarding the hotel itself, our room was fairly large, but not the cleanest, especially the bathroom. The sheets and walls had random stains which were disconcerting. This lack of cleanliness has been noted in other reviews, but was a significant drawback for us.
The restaurant was pretty good, and the Thai options were generally tasty (we didn't have any Western food, as we figured that's a waste while in Thailand and the items were generally twice as expensive). The main disappointment was surprisingly the Thai set meal we had one night, as it was very bland compared to the standard menu items. There was a wide range of options at the breakfast buffet, with rotating entrees. We also enjoyed the Rock Bar, which has cheap beer and Connect Four.
We did find that the staff were all very accomodating and pleasant, so appreciated their service. In general, it was an OK place, especially as it's not too pricy, but not one that we would return to.

We booked this holiday for my son's 21st birthday so the whole family decided to go.10 Adults with 5 big eating Aussies boys is no short feat, well the food in this hotel was fantastic and dirt cheap so much so sometimes the boys ordered 2 meals..well they were on holidays. The rooms were clean and good size, the suites are better but not necessary .The staff were so friendly and most spoke pretty good english , could not fault hotel at all.Not a big hotel but just right away from the noisy Pantong Beach. Free hotel ute every half hour to town and back a BIG bonus. The pool barman was an added bonus...great fun and can't wait to go back.Loved it..
Fanatastic hotel!!

My boyfriend and I stayed here just a few days ago and found it to be a wonderful hotel. I had my doubts when originally booking this hotel as it is a 3 star and was told that it was quite a distance from Patong town. However, we found it to be a great hotel-it wasnt too far from the town (20 minute walk if you're brave enough to take on the scooters and cars!) and the room was great. We had a run of the house room and it was really really nice.
The breakfast is ok but we werent really expecting too much anyway- but the omelette they cook for you is soooo good!! They never ran out of pool towels and always made our room everyday. There is also a laundry close by that cleans 1 kg of clothing for only 70 baht and the lady is so lovely!!!
The shuttle bus was very handy and reliable. The good thing about this hotel is that it is out of the heart of town and so you can get a good night's sleep, but close enough for easy access to town! It's in front of the ocean and so you can get wonderful views from your room and at the restaurant. We would definitely stay there again!!
Sunset sizzles

Sunset Beach Resort is located at Kalim Bay a few clicks north of the Patong Beach frenzy. This hotel would suit those seeking a relatively quiet environment after-hours while still in striking distance of the party action downtown. Huge pool with swim-up bar, indoor / outdoor restaurant and bar, very friendly staff and good gym / massage / beauty parlour etc. In the strip directly ouside the property there are numerous small family restaurants (permanent and mobile) serving absolutely delicious local food at embarrassingly cheap prices. Like 2 courses plus a juice or tea for under $5 Aussie dollars. Next door is a 'Laundry Lane' with similarly good prices, and further down one of the best Internet shop and Travel / Tour Agencies on the island. No Go- Go bars, touts, souvenir shops or other rip-offs or annoyances for a good 5 mins walk either direction, which for Phuket is quite something. Security guard on station all night and safety never a problem. Free shuttle bus on the half-hour gets you downtown in 10 minutes flat. Ask for a room on ground floor fronting the pool. Then just wake up...throw open the sliding doors.....and fall into the pool before brekky. Holiday heaven. Recommended unreservedly.
