Agreed. But I wanted to make sure that the parents understood that Patong is that type of environ, whereas other beaches are not. It is clearly their choice but I was not sure that they had ever been there before.

Kuala Lumpur to Phuket ferry service - July 2011
I'm planning to go for vacation with my family to both Phuket and Kuala Lumpur next July 2011.
My question is:
1. Is there a direct ferry service from Kuala Lumpur to Phuket?
2. How is the weather like during July in Phuket?
3. What kind of family activities can we find in Phuket?

Sorry to disapoint but there is no ferry service to Kaula from Phuket much because Kaula Lumper is inland, not on the coastline and if there was such a service it would quicker to travel overland or fly.
The weather in Phuket during July is ok but do expect the odd shower late in the afternoon but sometime these showers can make for a good sunset. Showers only last for 30 minutes to an hour but it is nice to cool off.
There are things do to for families around Phuket island, such as visiting zoo's butterfly farms etc...and i'm sure there is much more you can do as well but I am not a family man.

Muslim stilt village
Ko Panyi is a small island located in the north western part of Ao Phang Nga and it is famous for the Muslim fishing village built on stilts against a backdrop of massive limestone cliffs.
It's all very commercialised and hundreds of tourists rock up each day for lunch as a part of an organised cruise and also to buy some overpriced souvenirs.
Big One Supermarket
Just at the basement of Ocean Plaza Thaweewong Road there is a Big One Supermarket where you can grab your drinks and tibits.
You may also buy your sun tan or sun block lotion here in case you have forgotten to pack them in your luggage.
Just outside the Supermarket is a tour operator which offer quite a competitive price for day trip to Phi Phi Island.
There is a stall selling bikinis for THB199 just outside Big One.
ANGRY BULL
RAGING BULL BAR is located in SOI SEADRAGON.It is the last bar there with a mechanical bull for riding.Great bar and owner 100 baht to try and if anyone can stay on the bull can earn 1000 baht in drinks
