While I was in Phuket I was lucky enough to stay at the Thavorn Palm Beach which is on Karon Beach...this is a fairly reasonable property, however caters more for families. They have huge amounts of facilities which includes hire bikes, squash court, tennis court, loads of swimming pools, from memory about 4 restaurants...and if your not happy with those, you can pop around the corner to one of the village restaurants...use good judgement tho...if it doesn't look that clean, don't eat there, otherwise you may spoil your holiday!!
I think on average it works out about $140 NZD per night...it's not hugely cheap but it's relatively quiet compared to some of the hotels in Patong..the main village area

As we approached the hotel I really wasn't sure what to expect inside. However it has a very impressive lobby that is also a museum. There is a large wooden staircase that catches your attention. The carpet in the hall outside our room had seen better day's, but don't let that put you off. The room was very comfortable if not a little worn. The hot shower and air con were the newest parts to the room. There is a T.V but all that is available is 6 Thai channels. You are expected to pay day by day. We paid the first day, but didn't pay the second day as we thought we would pay in the morning when we were checking out. After about 30 minutes of being back in our room there was knocking at our door. Neither of us could answer the door straight away, I was in the shower and my boyfriend was getting dressed. He answered to shouts of " You pay for room now".
Considering that you can pay 700B for a fan room in the Backpacker hostel, this at 550B is a good deal. Just make sure that you pay every day! Comfortable room for a reasonable price. Centrally located in Phuket Town.
Loved it best resort ive ever stayed in!!!!!!!!!

Well where do I start??? Thavorn Beach Village is the best place I have ever stayed in. The people were beautiful, always wanting to help and make our stay as perfect as possible.
On arrival we were seated in the reception area over looking part of the beach with a view of the hotel. We were brought complimentry mock-tails (cocktails without alcohol). Our paperwork was collected from us and we didnt have to do a thing. We were sitting there for 30mins, but I have waited longer in places in Victoria, Australia to be checked in.
We were taken to our room by the same lady who checked us in. As we were walked to our room the resorts facilities were explained to us, as well as some activities to do within Patong.
We were on our honeymoon, our bed had a love heart made out of flowers across the bed which was a lovely thing to walk into. The room was spectacular!! it was very clean and tidy. The only complaint about the room is that the chairs on our balcony were rock hard as they were wooden and didnt have much padding, but a few extra pillows from the cupboard fixed that problem. And the clock in our room was an hour behind, but I only go by my watch so that was not really an issue for us.
The resturant was expensive for Thialand prices but it was no where near what we would pay in Australia! We had a beautiful candle lit dinner by the pool and the waiters were nothing but attentive. Yes, they do really like a tip but considering they get payed pea-nuts we were more than happy to tip. We regularly caught taxis from our hotel and never paid more than 300 Baht!!!
Over all an excellent hotel. At night the staff are not as well spoken with the english language as during the day, but we found they were not ashamed to call another fallow worker who knew English to help them. Which we were happy to wait a few mintues for our answer.
We had one of the best rooms in the complex. we were in room 6102. which is on the top floor in an ocean view villa. I am definatly going back to this resort next year!!! I was an every year queensland girl but not anymore! I am happy to help people with any questions so please dont hesitate to ask!!!!!! 10 out of 10 WE LOVED THE THAVORN BEACH VILLAGE!!!!!!!
Nice family holiday

We have just returned from staying at Thavorn Beach Village and Spa after a very nice and relaxing holiday. Every thing was in working order - very nice and big bungalow in garden setting. All the staff was very happy to help with any thing - nothing was a problem. Were amazed that our linen was changed daily - maybe a little late some days but it was made up ealier the next day. It didn't really matter that much as we didn't spend our time here but at the amazing big pool. Our children 8 and 4 years spend all day here - it is hard to describe - it is huge and beautiful. We didn't have a problem to get chairs to sit on arrived by the pool at 9 -10 am and there were still heaps left.
The complex is away from Patong a 5- 10 min. ride by Tuk Tuk or taxi. We found this great to be away from the noise and people but still close enough to go for meals and shopping here. We would buy some supplies beer, wine, water and bread ect. so we could self- cater for lunch. It would be very hard to find this location anywhere closer to Patong - we would come back tomorrow if we could. It is more expensive to eat here but again you pay for the location - I would rather take the ride into Patong
each night than stay there. Where else can you find a private beach and a huge swimmingpool.
Overall a great holiday it does need a litte maintaince here and there, the pool is a little green in places BUT we would still like to come back.
wonderful pool but poor room accomodation

I stayed at Thavorn Beach Village a little while ago and overall I was reasonablly happy with my stay. The pool is absolutely incredible, one of the best i have ever seen. This really is the resorts best feature. The resort was really clean and tidy.
I booked the resort through its website and liased directly with them via email. This worked really well and our reservation was fine when we arrived.
The resort is beautiful but i would suggest trying the pool access rooms, def not the bungalows.
There were a few things however that wernt so great. Other travellers considering staying at this hotel might find beneficial to know:
- our bags were taken down to our bungalow for us, and the staff member who did this just stood there looking at us waiting for a tip. So we tried to find some money and because we were taken off guard, i think we may have tipped way too much.
- our bungalow was ok, but not great. the room was really plain (bed, bedside tables, tv, fridge and bathroom). It felt 2-3 star. We got a twin room, not a double bed. My partner got bitten by some sort of bug that he insisted was from the bed., but who knows.
- one time we came back to our room in the middle of the day and there was a young staff member sitting in our room wating our tv! i assumed that maybe she was fixing it or something, but we never made a complaint about it being broken (cos it wasnt), so i think she was just sitting there watching it. But even after we stood in the room for a while, she didnt leave. it must have been at least 5 minutes before she left, and didnt say anything to us. It was really weird.
- there was a free shuttle bus to patong, but like other travellers have stated, these are at really bad times so you really have to get a tuk tuk and pay high prices.
- the beach isnt very nice in front of the hotel.
Honeymoon Disaster
by TripAdvisor Member Jbird78
Where do I Start? My wife and I decided to travel to phuket for what was suppose to be the relaxing care free honeymoon we were hoping for, far from it! We had booked in 10 nights at the Thavorn beach village and spa which we were only staying for 9, we had booked the night before we arrived knowing that the check in time was in the afternoon so when we arrived in the morning we would have a room to go to straight away obvious for most normal human beings to understand, this was not the case for the management of this circus. On arrival we were told that because we had not showed up the night we had booked from they gave our room away, and that they had no rooms available and were shipping us off back to a lesser hotel near the airport from which we had just driven 45 minutes from. As you could imagine this went down like a lead balloon, so we asked to phone our travel agent in perth to find out what was going on which we were told to advise the manager that we were not going anywhere apart from the hotel we paid for! the funny thing was they had arranged a pick up from the airport for us on the day we arrived proving the fact they knew we were coming in on this particular day, still the reservation manager could not see the wrong in this and was taking no responsibility frustrating the [----] out of me. It was becoming clear to me that I was wasting my breath with this person and asked to speak to the General Manager in which I was told this would be another 2 hour wait as he had to come from home. Finally he arrived and it seemed he was hearing our case and shouted us a very late lunch and told us he will arrange the room. Well he aranged a room or a excuse for a room telling us it was only for the night and we will have our booked room in the morning. The next afternoon we got our room beautiful ocean view with a outside balcony spa oh but no balcony furniture to sit and admire the view, was over complaining so we accepted the fact just grateful for our room. The next morning we have no hot water so we advised the reception on the problem, yeah well that obviously fell on deaf ears because the next 3 days we still had no hot water. the pool area was great if you enjoyed swimming and sunbathing on the concrete floor because this is whats left after some people decided to pay the pool boys off to reserve the pool lounge chairs at 6am until they would arrive in the afternoon. This as you could imagine made a few people see red, seeing as we had paid our money to stay in what is suppose to be a 4 1/2 star hotel and enjoy the luxuries that go with it. We had ordered 2 hamburgers thru the room service at ridiculous prices and waited 2 hours for stone cold un eatable hamburgers to arrive, again no complaining was just over the whole thing. Finally its time to leave never before have I wanted to come home from and overseas holiday not less your Honeymoon, we go to sought out the room bill when we find they have charged us to phone our travel agent in Perth to fix the problem with us having no room due to there lack of compentecy, again we argue I could not understand how these people could not see why we were upset at this, we didnt phone our family or friends to say hello, we phoned to fix the hotels mistake!
The moral of this story, stay as far away from this hotel as possible we were not a isolated case during our stay we did not find one couple who had not had a problem with the hotel.

mixed feelings about the thavorn...the pool was fantastic! the BEST we've ever seen..we stayed in a garden view bungalow, booked 7 months
in advance, requested a double bed (honeymoon) and got two singles. I understand that they cannot guarantee rooms, but 7 months in advance is plenty of notice. We had to ask twice, for housekeeping to put the beds together, our shower had no pressure and no HOT water, took them 5 people and 3.5 hours to fix it, our tv didn't work properly even after a man fixed it and the next day our shower still did not work. We complained, and they wanted to put us in a room further away, i refused, why should we be moved into a room thats not as good as or better then our current on. We got upgraded to a ocean view bungalow. the room was much nicer, but the power went out a few time and the tv did not work but we'd had enough of complaining by then. They sent letters to people staying in the pool side villas asking for volunteers to leave to other WORSE hotels as they were over booked by 8 rooms for 5 days. Those would be the bests rooms to stay at but i don't think i'd stay there again, simply
because of the high risk that they might have over booked and problems would occur again... very, very disappointed as we loved the pool and had a great holiday, just very unorganized hotel. thought it was great that they had a free bus to patong, but didn't run it enough and the russians would push and shove to get in first.

"Honeymoon 8 Days"
I took my new Japanese wife to Phuket though she was a bit apprehensive and needless to say, it was a wonderful and unforgettable experience. We arrived at the airport at 2:00am and were hounded by the taxi drivers...but I had done my research and knew to exit the airport and turn right and look for licensed drivers. However, no one ever tells you that at 2:00am there are no licensed drivers...only the local ones, so we paid the sum of 700baht and were driven 120kmph to our destination(thinking the entire time we were being taken to some parking lot to be robbed...but no the man was kind and we arrived 30 minutes later at the Thavorn Beach Village and spa.(read next chapter)
"Thavorn Beach Village and Spa...Garden View Villa"
Ok..to start, this place is self rated 4 or 5 stars depending...and it is user rated as nightmare on elm street...So here it is raw uncut and unrated...The set-up, design, landscape, and pool are of the most beautiful I have ever seen(very Thai..not holiday inn)It is truly gorgeous. It is the kind of place where you are TRULY on vacation, you forget your worries, your job, your country, and you relax...Now to the rooms..well let me give you some background...I have been to 49 of 50 United States(excluding Alaska) lived in Japan and traveled to Hong Kong and Macau...I have stayed in a 5000$ room in N.Y. and a 15$ room in N.J. I have some background. Now on to the room...First...THIS IS THAILAND!!!!!!! this is not the comfort inn in Dallas TX. The room was cute with a local feel...It was not 4 or 5 stars. The water was yellow and our AC leaked on the floor one night...but guess what? we paid like 45U.S. a night so could we really expect a solid gold toilet seat? I believe in 8 days we were in the room for 6 hours a day to sleep and...I just got a bit ticked off that people could be sooo surprised that this room wasn't to their expectations of ridiculous proportions...moving on..breakfast was kick ass...the fresh juice was unbelievable and all else very westernized...The pool. It is honestly the size of a small lake with orchids growing everywhere and serene ocean breezes and waves crashing behind you...fantastic...Some ethnocentric people were complaining about the amount of Russians there, and how they have the place locked down and blah blah...we met two Russian couples who were extremely friendly...no complaints and if you cant understand by now that there are both good and bad people in every culture, then you shouldn't travel anyway...back to Thavorn...worth the money, not perfect, would go back cuz it is cheap and 5 minutes away from the businessman Disneyland called Patong.
"Shopping..Spa..Food..Tuktuks...Elephant rides"
Shopping...it is ALL crap at Patong..EVERY BIT IS JUNK...If you want to shop, hire a driver and tell him/her to take you to Central Festival, but you will find 1. its not that cheap and 2. it is just like your mall at home... Shop in Paris or Milan, have fun and relax in Phuket...Spas and massages..No different... Patong is full of massage parlors where you will get a significant other style massage(I mean skill level and not happy ending) so you will pay to get a massage that is not very good to put it simply...we decided to splurge and get a three hour spa treatment at this place that looks like a palace in the middle of the island..can't remember the name...well worth it though(a little emasculating) i have NEVER been so relaxed...TUKTUKS...they are taxis that look like roofed pick-up trucks...you can bargain, just do it with a smile and remember that Thai people make about 6 U.S.D. a day...so is your 75cents that important???But we found a driver that was so cool and took us everywhere and even had us to his house for a REAL Thai dinner... Most drivers will have all-day rates but if you see this...THANK YOU MR.IS!!!!!!!!!NOw the best part...Elephant ride through the jungle...20 bucks a person for an hour ride that is AMAZING!!!KOK CHANG was the name I think and from what we saw, the elephants were not mistreated at all...well worth it...unforgettable...

Restaurants near Thavorn Beach Village & Spa?
by Holidayphuket
Can anyone tell me if there are any good restuarants near the hotel? Or are the hotel restaurants fairly priced?

Your best selection of restaurants will be in Patong, about 5-10 minutes by taxi or tuk-tuk. See my Phuket pages for more information.

I don't know what your definition of a good restaurant is but mine is good food at good prices.
There are many restaurants within easy walking distance of the Thavorn. Simply walk out onto Beach Road and turn either left or right.
I always feel you miss out on some great dining if you eat wholly within your hotel. Hotel restaurants are also overpriced compared to local restaurants. There is absolutely no need to go to Patong to enjoy some fabulous food.
