Ocean wildlife amazing.
People friendly and welcoming.
Phuket has an aray of wildlife . The jungle is close and you can go into it an explore with caution!
It has hidden waterfalls. And a Gibbon Sanctuary.
An amazing place to visit. The Gibbon Sanctuary.
They rescue Gibbons from zoos and photographers etc, and reintroduce them back to the wild. The sanctuary is hidden in the jungle and they have a special island off Phuket especailly for the gibbons to be taken and live the rest of there lifes peacefully.
The Thai people are very quiet...

The Thai people are very quiet and respectful, you don't often hear or see them arguing, so you should not too. Be very polite to all the people. Also, if you go to the temples make sure you cover your ankles and shoulders, and women are not permitted to approach monks.
phuket zoo
by hendo4
probably not really off the beaten path, but well worth a look in. lots of exotic birds and other things to check out. one noticable difference to western zoos, is the abscence of any barrier cages. you can walk straight up to an enlosure and put your hands through the bars,( watch out for the little kiddies fingers.)
More relaxed haggling!
by lindyz about Beach Road shops
It seemed to me that the hard-bargaining shopping was marginally easier and less stressful at the many shops along Beach Road. You have a huge selection of shops and stalls along here, definitely with something for everyone and all at great prices if you are good at bargaining hard!! We mainly shopped on the strip from the Patong Merlin Hotel up to Bangla Road, although this road goes a long long way further in the other direction.
for those who want to rock!
by earthboundfaerie about Rock City
Rock City is an impressive bar at the northern end of Beach Road on Patong that has live rock music every night. They have 3 great bands every night starting at 9PM. The first band covered a lot of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest songs, second band played a lot of the more modern rock songs like stuff from Green Day, Maroon 5 and such. The last band is always their U2/Oasis tribute band. Being musicians, naturally, my husband and I wanted to see this! What got us a little disappointed was that we were half-expecting local Thai rock bands to be performing and instead the bands were made up mostly of Europeans, i think, if not Australians. I think there were only 2 Thais I saw who played. But nonetheless, they played all the U2 and Oasis favorites. It gets pretty crowded here too and the crowd can get really rowdy especially when the crowd favorites are played. My husband loves U2 and asked if he could jam a song with the band but the band didn't want to, i guess, because they don't usually take any jammers up. But all in all, it was a pretty cool way to spend the night. But we left pretty early as we wanted to see some real local Thai bands. Rock City isn't exactly a very Thai experience since most of the people there were foreigners including the band.
They do serve up a really mean chocolate martini.. You can smell the alcohol even from afar!! Watch out for their occasional International Party nights where you get as much booze as you want for only 350Baht, if i remember correctly. pretty casual
