Which budget hotel in Phuket is best !

by whitegardenia

Im helping a friend to check, which budget hotel to book in Phuket for 14 days?

His budget is around GBP30 or Baht 1400 per room night. I would suggest near to Patong Beach and easy accessibility to seafood restaurants and nearby shopping areas.

I have looked at Patong Swiss Hotel and A-Zone. Would you recommend either? Or otherwise? All advice are appreciated.

Thanks!

Try Sunset View, it is not in Patong, but has a free shuttle to the main shopping centers. Most tour agency can get you a better deal because you are staying for 2 weeks. There are many guest houses on the side streets that are just as nice as a boutique hotel. I have to look up the names if you need them. Cheers Tommy x

The Patong Swiss Hotel is highly recommended by other VT ers. Look on (Cathy& Gary) homepage and go to their Phuket site. They have many pictures with prices on their captions. Cheers Tommy x

Thanks Tommy for taking the time to reply. Yes...would appreciate if you could locate some of the guest houses on the side streets that are clean and reliable.
Security is utmost priority, and then accessibility to beach and main tourist belts for food and shopping I guess are important.

Thanks so much again, Tommy.

I have recently stayed at the Burasari in central Patong and would very highly recommend it as a smaller boutique style hotel representing fantastic value for money. You can get a double room there for about $80AUD per night, which is almost within your budget. I can give you also a fantastic online website to book the Burasari for, paying even less than we paid. Just inbox me and Ill send you the details.

Travel Tips for Phuket

Kata Beach - Noisy, Nai Yang Beach - Lovely

by ann500

My husband I fled from Kata Beach after only one day. The town is very noisy and touristic and the beach is stuffed full of people, jetskis and speedboats. It really wasn't relaxing and would have been a disappointing vacation had we stayed there. So we travelled to Nai Yang Beach, just next to the airport. This place is COMPLETELY different, a lovely long stretch of mostly empty beach (not deserted) backed by a national park. Very laid-back. Plenty of sunbeds and nice little restaurants with great food, many right on the beach... eat with your feet in the sand. The accommodations are all set back in the park in a very nice atmosphere. You can still find travel agencies, dive centers, shops, massage places and all that, but not in a loud in-your-face way. We also saw wildlife at this lovely beach. The people were very nice and welcoming: lots of friendly locals who say "hello" and "good morning" to you in a genuine way as you pass and a lot of the children wanted to shake my hand. This also was very diffrent from Kata Beach.

So if you are looking for a relaxing vacation, I don't recommend Kata Beach. But if you like noise and busy nightlife... Kata Beach is your place. Kids and teenagers would like Kata Beach and teenagers especially would probably find Nai Yang Beach to be too quiet.

If you want to see the difference between the beaches, compare the two photos I am including. Read some of my other tips if you are interested in Nai Yang. Both beaches have done an excellent job repairing the tsunami damage.

Muslim

by Myndo

Next to Buddhism and natural religions, muslim also make a bigger part of the religions of Thailand.

These boys I fotographed on the Sea Gypsie City in Pha Nga Bay. Most of them are Muslim, they even have built a Mosque out there.
You can have a look at the Mosque from the outsied, but it is no longer allowed to get in.

BTW. behind the boys is a big hawk. I have been only noticing it later, but I (and many more) just walked by it before.

Jungle like

by Myndo

There are still places on Phuket island where some of the forest is left.

Looking at it is like looking at a green wall.

I would not advice to go in there, though.
As far as I know neither do the Thais. The reason is, that there are a lot of snakes on the island -and especially in the underbush - that are poisonous.

Rolex

by DONBURGESS about Most places have them

If you want to buy a fake Rolex there are plenty of places around Patong thatwill sell them, you have toask for them, they don't keep them on show, the Goverment are trying to stop the sale of them.
There are so many styles and quaity that you must be carefull with what you buy, make sure that all the dails work before you hand over your money.
There are also many other brands and styles to piclk from so go out and get a few new watches, they make great gifts for back home Depending on your bartering skills you can buy a Rolex from500 batt to 2000 batt, and the other styles and brands well they are cheap.

Theme park

by Donna-Lee about Fantasea

WOW this place was amazing. There`s amusement games that the kids will love. food and entertainment, elephant rides and thats before the show.
The actual show was amazing I would go again, the one thing that cracked me up was the chickens that ran across the stage, if you've been or do go you'll know what im talking about.
You can also get your picture taken with the elephants and bubby tiger, for a fee of course and you pick them up after the show already done up in a colorful frame.
You will see to that even though it gets packed its really well organized. I wore nice but casual, some were dolled up :) its nice to get dressed up.
