Re: Money Value

by HansDK

What is bth? The Thai currency is abbreviated THB.

THB 21,000 equals about USD 675. USD 1 = approx. THB 31.

Re: Money Value

by explore_discover

That is enough money for 15 days (or even more) expenses if you stay at Budget Hotel/Eat at Budget Restaurants.

Re: Money Value

by kimberleysa

that will only be spending money

Re: Money Value

by explore_discover

so what else you want to do with the Money? Its meant for spending

Re: Money Value

by kimberleysa

no i just ment that i dont have any hotel expense or food expense ex..
That money will only go for buying stuff.

Re: Money Value

by mim95

it's really hard to say...depending on what you are interested in buying. A shirt can be 50 Baht or 500 Baht, depends on brand names and quality. You can spend a lot if you are not into brand names. Thailand-made stuffs (not necessarily local brand, but companies with a factory in Thailand) can be cheaper, especially in outlet malls.

That should be approximately R5000.00 depending on the exchange rate.

Travel Tips for Phuket

Patong

by pmarshuk

Patong is built alongside one of the best beaches on the island, though it can get quite crowded around the resort. In theory big multi story buildings are not allowed. Obviously the builders in Thailand have problems with local laws!!
Also see my Tourist trap tip.

Jatukam and other amulets

by Tina-Perth

Jatukam are a relatively new amulet to Thailand. They are, first and foremost protection amulets, secondly they are wealth amulets. They were first created in 1987 in Nakhon Si Thammarat, a province in the south. Jatukam's were originally introduced to raise money for a Chedi and the smaller buildings which surround it in Jokjakarta, Indonesia. (Nakhon was the spiritual centre of an ancient realm of 9,000km2 that included India and Indonesia).

The Jatukam include at least two of three depictions, one is the monkey type figures (Rao Hu), second is the Ramathep figure, and third is the monkey with face covered by his hands (less popular).

The Jatukam pictured is a Chedi Rai (pronounced Jay-dee-rai). It is instantly recognisable, even to people with very limited knowledge of JTK. It was designed in Thai year 2530 (1987).

For more complete information, check my Nakhorn Si Thammarat page travelogue.

I have just returned to Phuket after being away for 3 months. You would not believe the change! When I bought my first Jatukam piece in January for 20,000 baht, only a few Thai people were wearing them. Now, my main Jatukam piece is worth about 100,000 baht (in May) and I've heard that it could be worth up to 200,000 baht. There are Jatukam shops everywhere, probably 10 at each main shopping centre, but be warned, as much as they will try to convince you that the pieces are real, I can almost guarantee you that they're a copy.

There have been newspaper reports recently where Jatukam figures have shown up in photos, even digital pictures and ones that were taken by farangs (westerners). This has added to the hysteria and popularity of the Jatukam.

The Jatukam in the picture, as worn by my friend, is my main piece. I have a blue one, because I was born on a Friday. Every day of the week is represented by a different colour.

Actually See Wildlife at a Beach

by ann500

Nai Yang Beach is set in a lovely national park, so you have a chance to see some wildlife. We saw this guy on the shore of the small headland, catching fish. See my other tips for a full description of the beach and things to do.

Ocean Plaza

by Cielo_Algaeed about Ocean Plaza

Ocean Plaza has 2 branches in Phuket. One in Thaweewong Road (Patong) while the other one is in BAngla Road (Patong). It is relatively small compared to other malls which you can find in Bangkok but they have several designer shops like Lacoste,Nike,John Henry etc.

Nice house Music Club

by hash09 about Banana Club

This is the tip for you to get a drinks at the bar, because there is only a small bar for a thousand of people with 3 bar tenders, somehow they will ignore you. You have to be patient to get a drink, all you have to do, when you get to the bar just put down the coupon which you got it from the entrance counter, wait till they come to you, and if you raise you hands up with a coupon in your hands they will ignore you, and you also have to talk with them in thai, at least a little thai ask for a drinks and only then they will serve for you immediately. I got a friend with me who tought me to talk in thai, otherwise i have to wait there for ages, just to get a drink.

If you raise up you hands like that guy in the picture, you have to wait for ages for them to serve you.
