Great place to stay in Patong

The Yorkshire Hotel was a perfect place to start our holiday. I was so pleased with the location of the hotel when we first arrived, no need for a tuk tuk anywhere! Really close to beach and nightlife and some really good shopping places as well.
Hotel was clean, modern and spacious. Amenities were really good, pool, gym, free internet and best part was the spa just upstairs. I had two treatments done here, really pleased with both of them and it helped to cure my hazy head from the night before!
Food in the hotel restaurant was lovely, ate there numerous times and never found any fault.
Overall i would recommend the hotel to any of my friends heading to Phuket, staff there make you fell really welcome.

Distance from Karon to waterpark? Zip lines?

by darlaf

Hi, Staying at Horizon Beach Resort-how far to Splash Jungle Water Park (time and distance)? Best way to get there? Also thinking about zip lines (Cable Jungle Adventure)in same area... anyone have experience with those? Book zip line ahead of time? Can a 10 year old go?
Thanks again-Darla

There are tours to the park and different times when signing up. The tour package includes hotel pick up to and from. at about under 2000 bahts. The min. age is 7 yo. Look though the many tour agency for a package. It could be less than 1500 if negoiate. Cheers Tommy x

Travel Tips for Phuket

Yellow Plastic Bag

by imstress

Upon arrival at Phuket airport, you will see lots of yellow smal bags hanging on the shelves. Grab one of the yellow plastic bag as it contains maps, brouchers, vouchers and discount coupons. Do take note that the information are in different languages and choose the language you are most comfortable with. The yellow plastic bags are FREE, but do take only what is required.

We could hardly find any maps when we went along Patong Beach. The map in the yellow plastic bag came in handy when we rented a car to drive around Phuket beaches and Phuket Town.

Visit Wat Ko Si-le

by austarman

This Temple is know as Wat ko Si-le which is set on a small Island attached to the mainland by a small bridge and is set on the top a very steep hill overlooking Phuket town and Phuket harbor.
There is some sort of Monk school here and many of them live here.
To get to the temple you have to practically thrash the motor out of your little rented motorbike, and then climb the giant serpent staircase that runs all the way up to the mountain top temple.
But the effort is defiantly worth it. ;-)
The view was fantastic from here and the big reclining Buddha was quite impressive too.
At the bottom of the hill there is a fishery sea port and a sea gypsy village which are both worth a look as well.
This is on the wrong side of Phuket town (the west coast) for many visitors to get to but if you have a bike its a great day trip with a special someone.

Thai Bar Snacks

by trevndebs

Keep your eyes open around the bars and you may see the bug man plying his trade. All sorts of what we call creepie-crawlies are deep fried and eaten by the local Thais. Looked interesting but I passed the chance to sample his goods.

Samuri Sword Anyone?

by trevndebs

Just no end to the selection of thing for sale along Beach Road.
Just when you think that your shopping is complete, you stumble over stalls like this one where you can buy that all important Samuri sword or deadly dagger that you've always wanted.
If it's made, it's for sale in Phuket!

Watch the King of Rock and Roll!!!

by earthboundfaerie about Phuket Bar

Watch ELVIS!!! :D
Phuket Bar, right beside Banana Disco, hosts Elvis shows almost every night! It's a pretty fun thing to catch especially if you're an Elvis fan! If the Elvis impersonator is good, then great for you! If not, then there is still the chance of being amused by how bad his impersonation is. What we saw though was a pretty good impersonation if only for the singing! :D pretty casual dress code :)
