Pa tong

by vyse22

I'm going to patong on the 8th of june and wanted some advise. I'll be staying at sea view hotel and I'm there for 9 nts.

First off, how big is phuket island. is it a place where you can do day trips easily and what are the travel times like?

Whats it going to cost(roughly)

How much spending money would 1 NEED, for instance what would a can of coke cost or a phone call back home?

And just any advise would be welcomed.

Phuket is a good size island It will take about 20-30 minutes to get from Phuket town to Patong.

In Patong you can arrange any day trip you want to do, There are many travel agencies in Patong, everything there is set up for the tourist. When you arrange a trip they will pick you at hotel or travel agency and drop you off same place.

As for money alot will depend on what type of hotel you are staying and how many trips you want to do. I have no Idea what money you use in your country But I would take at least £1000 with me but all depends if you are a single person ou to party everynight or a family person.

maybe some of the other vters can help you on that one.

If you have already paid your accomodation then you probably dont need that much money. There are pleny of day trips you can do (to other islands, elephant rides, quad biking, white water rafting) they probably cost between $50-$100 AUS. if you plan on eating at local resturuants (not in the hotel)food shouldnt be too expensive (maybe $10 AUS). Some days you will spned a lot of money other days if you lay on the beach all day you wont spend much. There will allways be plenty of people who want to part you with your money. I would say 6-700 pounds should be enough.

Agree with the above post

6-700 would defiantly be enough if hotel & flights are all paid before you go.

My price of £1000 was based on me going independent and find something when arrive & cost of flights.

Coke - 15 baht, Beer singha - 80 to 100 baht (depending on where u buy from). Prices are in Phuket Town itself. Food is relatively cheap although I haven't been to Patong but in Phuket Town itself, a fried rice with prawn costs 45-60 baht, if you have the budget, go for the seafood, one dish about 120-170 baht. A large pizza in a small cafe in thailand 150-190 baht. Hope this helps.

Accommodations in Phuket

Leigh is partially correct in that bargaining at the high end hotels and resorts you are going to have less luck, unless they are experiencing low tourist. Because of the economy I think it is a bit up in the air. Generally speaking I think you'll probably get better rates on line.
However, I do disagree with the smaller resorts and hotels. They don't have to be "dumpy" to get a good rate. There are some really nice boutique resorts and hotels and family owned places that are really nice, comfortable, accommodating and have great food. They will negotiate on rates. How much will depend on the business they are getting, the time of the tourist season, high or low etc...I would get on line and reserve a place for a night or two, get into town and look around. If you don't find anything stay where you are. I think it's always better to have a place in advance than lugging bags around looking. But I always take a look around once I am settled in.
Good luck

Thai Boxing

by lindyz

Thai boxing is obviously very popular in Patong. There is a HUGE stadium near Bangla Road in central Patong and there are cars driving around the streets every day with boxers on board and giving details of when the next fight night is on! Plus many stalls are selling the silk boxing shorts, so it is obviously very popular.

Jungceylon

by imstress about Jungceylon

Tired of shopping in hot and humid weather. Dont wish to sharpen your bargaining skills? Come to Jungceylon which is the largest shopping and leisure destination in Patong Beach. It has 4 different zone.

I brought lots of blouse which were going on sale for THB100 onwards. This is the best place to shop if you don’t like bargaining and like to shop in air-conditioning comfort. However there are no fake brands like Billabongs sold here. There is a food court we had our meal here.

Carrefour is the anchor tenant. We love to buy the roast chicken, sausages, mango for our dinner.

Zone 1: Silang Boulevard - food court, massage, botiques, sport complex, Thai art & handicraft shop and cafes.

Zone 2: The Port - Featuring Jungceylon Water Fountain in an outdoor section where the Chinese Junk Boat and the Musical Fountain light show performances are held every night.

Zone 3: Sino Phuket - lots of stalls selling clothes and I brought a few here. The restaurants will be opening soon.

Zone 4: Phuket Square - Carrefour is the anchor tenant. Robinson Department Store, bowling alley, theaters will be opening soon.

Open: 11 am till midnight daily.

Bangla Road

by imstress about Clubs, bars, go go

Not sure where to go at night? Head down to Bangla Road even if you are not a night life person. Many tourists will flock here at night to chill out at the bars. Many restaurants and bars are located here and the adult night spot is located in the heart of Bangla Road.

Just stand on the street and you can see all the lady boys parading on stage with their sexy poses and exposing themselves. They will allow you to take pictures if you give them tips.

phuket town to patong beach

by Rastarigo

at phuket bus terminal, it seems like there's no cheaper way to get to patong because drivers would approach you and refuse to tell you the options available. but there is. at the market, there's a vehicle there which the local people use. to patong beach it costs 20b only! waaay cheaper than 250b the driver charged us.
