Accommodations in Phuket
by bulldogtwo
Leigh is partially correct in that bargaining at the high end hotels and resorts you are going to have less luck, unless they are experiencing low tourist. Because of the economy I think it is a bit up in the air. Generally speaking I think you'll probably get better rates on line.
However, I do disagree with the smaller resorts and hotels. They don't have to be "dumpy" to get a good rate. There are some really nice boutique resorts and hotels and family owned places that are really nice, comfortable, accommodating and have great food. They will negotiate on rates. How much will depend on the business they are getting, the time of the tourist season, high or low etc...I would get on line and reserve a place for a night or two, get into town and look around. If you don't find anything stay where you are. I think it's always better to have a place in advance than lugging bags around looking. But I always take a look around once I am settled in.
Good luck
Thai Boxing
by lindyz
Thai boxing is obviously very popular in Patong. There is a HUGE stadium near Bangla Road in central Patong and there are cars driving around the streets every day with boxers on board and giving details of when the next fight night is on! Plus many stalls are selling the silk boxing shorts, so it is obviously very popular.
Jungceylon
by imstress about Jungceylon
Tired of shopping in hot and humid weather. Dont wish to sharpen your bargaining skills? Come to Jungceylon which is the largest shopping and leisure destination in Patong Beach. It has 4 different zone.
I brought lots of blouse which were going on sale for THB100 onwards. This is the best place to shop if you don’t like bargaining and like to shop in air-conditioning comfort. However there are no fake brands like Billabongs sold here. There is a food court we had our meal here.
Carrefour is the anchor tenant. We love to buy the roast chicken, sausages, mango for our dinner.
Zone 1: Silang Boulevard - food court, massage, botiques, sport complex, Thai art & handicraft shop and cafes.
Zone 2: The Port - Featuring Jungceylon Water Fountain in an outdoor section where the Chinese Junk Boat and the Musical Fountain light show performances are held every night.
Zone 3: Sino Phuket - lots of stalls selling clothes and I brought a few here. The restaurants will be opening soon.
Zone 4: Phuket Square - Carrefour is the anchor tenant. Robinson Department Store, bowling alley, theaters will be opening soon.
Open: 11 am till midnight daily.
Bangla Road
by imstress about Clubs, bars, go go
Not sure where to go at night? Head down to Bangla Road even if you are not a night life person. Many tourists will flock here at night to chill out at the bars. Many restaurants and bars are located here and the adult night spot is located in the heart of Bangla Road.
Just stand on the street and you can see all the lady boys parading on stage with their sexy poses and exposing themselves. They will allow you to take pictures if you give them tips.
phuket town to patong beach
by Rastarigo
at phuket bus terminal, it seems like there's no cheaper way to get to patong because drivers would approach you and refuse to tell you the options available. but there is. at the market, there's a vehicle there which the local people use. to patong beach it costs 20b only! waaay cheaper than 250b the driver charged us.
