Merlin Beach Resort Phuket

by OnePowerBall

Getting in early here :-) We are heading to Phuket January 2012 and at this stage the Merlin Beach Resort is the front runner.

2 Adults and 3 teenagers 14, 16 & 18

Would like to hear from anyone with experience. Trip Advisor has some great reviews, but a couple of recent poor ones.

Most notably the beach and how rocky it is.....is there nice swimming beaches close by?

The resort looks huge and with 3 pools should be plenty of space....one recent review said unless you're up early and reserve a pool side spot forget it.

The location seems good....not interested in staying right in Patong but is close enough.

Any thoughts are most welcome thanks :-)

Do you honestly want to fly all that way and spend all day by the hotel pool?
If you don't like Patong why not try Kata or Karon. Lots of Europeans and Russians there if you don't like asians.

If u don't want to stay in patong, you are better off staying in karon better beaches and some great places to stay and cheaper than Merlin beach. I had some friends stay there and u heard right if ur not up early u will not get a spot by the pool.
Hope this helps

Travel Tips for Phuket

Laundry

by junecorlett

A Laundry service is offered by the hotels at a high price.
Our hotel Club Med (July 2009) were charging 200TB for one load to wash and 200TB to dry. You need to supply your own washing powder and fabric softener.

There are plenty of laundry services along the roads.
60TB for a load to wash and dry and neatly folded into plastic wrapping.

Collection the next day.
We used the service as we had 2 small children travelling with us (always covered in ice-ceam or juice)

Remove your shoes

by DONBURGESS

One thing you must do in some shops and stores in Phuket is to remove your shoes before entering.
You just take them off at the door and leave them outside, thye will still be there when you leave

Phang Nga Bay

by robertgaz

Phang Nga Bay is about 95km's north east of Phuket and it is dotted with hundreds of small islands and impressive limestone cliffs.

Unless you prefer to haggle over prices with boat drivers I would recommend that you go with an organised tour which most of the hotels can arrange for you.

Patong market

by LotusV8

The shop?
Well, they have everything on the streets Fake Rolex,Breitling etc..
Dont buy sunglasses - bad quality.
Clothes at some of the tailors f.ex Armani, Jaspal tailors.
Shorts,T-shirts etc.........
Art, oilpaintings, fotoalbum (very beautilul with wooden Elephants on the front) Try to start with 1/3 of the price and You will reach about 1/2 the price asked and it´s so cheap!

Girls or Boys???

by stedeb about Simon cabaret

We have been to Simon's Cabaret on 2 occasions and have enjoyed it both times.
The stars of the show are all very professional and it is no way like some of the cheap drag shows I have seen in other spots.
It is just as easy to book through your hotel as Simon's sent transport and the cost is the same if you take your own transport.
Simon's it quite okay for the whole family we saw families with young children and it is a big favourite with the Asian tourists.
