Tropical Garden Resort

We spent our four nights in Kata Beach, Phuket, staying at the Tropical Garden Resort. Here is a complete run-down of the good and bad of the hotel.

GOOD -
*You can get rooms with great views of the ocean. Only way you could beat them is if you had a beach bungalow. So book appropriately for rooms with a beach view.
*A very nice buffet continental breakfast each morning.
* They have needed facilities at the hotel premises, like internet, laundary, travel planning assistance, suit shop and so on and so forth.
* The rooms are cool and comfortable
* It is a 2-3 minute walk from the beach, right across the street from resteraunts, massage parlors, coffee shops and etc.
* A nice banquet area for buffet dinners at night, cocktails and live music.
* Two nice pools

BAD -
* LOTS of stairs and climbing. An incline to get up the vallet area to the hotel lobby. Then a good amount of stairs to the first level of rooms. Keep in mind that this hotel is two seperate buildings built one in front of the other. If you have a room in the second building then you must climb the ramp to the hotel lobby and steps to the first elevator. Take that elevator to the third floor of the first building. Then walk across a walkway, up another flight of stairs to another elevator which will take you to your floor and then walk the necessary length to your room. In All, be aware that staying at this hotel requires walking a lot of steps, if you have a disability or handicap this won't be the hotel for you.
* Hotel staff can be a little less than friendly. I suppose that the hustle and bustle of a busy resort can do that to you I suppose.

Overall, if the issue of having to climb all the steps and the more expensive cost don't make staying here a hardship for you than I would recommend it. Just make sure you get an ocean view.

Sorry I have no pictures of the hotel premises :-(

Stair Crazy

This is quite a nice hotel but only really for those who are fit and capable of climbing loads of stairs. There are very few rooms which would be accessible to someone in a wheelchair for example.

We were sent here for one night because of a mix up with the resort we'd originally booked and unfortunately for my mother, who has some walking difficulty, we were right at the back on the top floor - over 100 steps (we counted!). There are a couple of lifts dotted around but still there are steps to climb, so please take that into account if you are travelling with anyone who might not be able to manage the stairs.

Once in the room though the views we had were lovely and the rooms themselves were clean, tidy and fairly comfortable. I'm not really one for big hotels like this but it was OK for a one night stay.

Unique Quality: There is a nice pool, but unfortunately it was closed and being boarded over for the New Year's party. I thought this was a bit strange as I'm sure that most people (who seemed to be from Europe) have gone there to enjoy the pool, not to dance over the top of it!

"Oh, what a beach!"

The people, the beaches, the sand, the water, the nightlife...

Appreciate all (your a visitor)- the beach, the people, the culture;
Enjoy all (you're paying for it!) - the nightlife, the restaurants, and the massages.

"I would return in a heart beat!"

This is the exact view everyday from my room at the Tropical Garden Resort - top room on the end, but you got to climb over 100 steps and two elevators. It was worth every step! You can find places closer to the beach of course, but I enjoyed the view and the quite nights on the balcony sleeping under the stars and hearing the birds in the morning!
