Best time in a year to visit Phuket

by manoftileSK

Dear Friends,

When is the low period? High period 9when every thing is getting expensive)?
When is the wet / dry, hot period?

Thanks for the anticipated help.

the best time in terms of weather is late-nov to jan or feb, when it's not extremely hot, it's dry but at the same time, you are paying more for hotel because of the nicer weather.

march and april are getting hotter and it's still dry.

low season is may 1 to oct 31 for hotels on the andaman side because of the weather, although the weather is generally fine at the beginning and near the end of the range. And you can usually find bargains for hotels at this time. the wettest months are aug and sept in the andaman region in the south.

I agree with Mimi, but I have to say that May/June are probably two of the nicest months of the year for boating type activities. The water and wind is calm. It is getting hotter, but there's not too much rain then. April and September are the two wettest months. Any time from November - late March, then May/June.

Tina, I think April is the hottest and driest month as it is songkran.

Oh. I used to read the weather information on Asia Web Direct and the rainfall for Phuket was always said to be April and September. I had a look, here's some info.

'Looks like you're right, Mimi. The rains start in April, Songkran is an invitation for the rain, I guess.

We're never in Thailand in April, we leave in March and return in May.

Re: Best time in a year to visit Phuket ( Contineu discussion ...)

It was great to be able to receive many useful replies from many helpful members.
I have further question:
i plan to bring my family of five members ( all adults) from Malaysia to Phuket for a 4 D/3 N holiday. Hoping to make it cost effective on a controlled budget, we plan to do it DIY., and look around for bargain upon arrival.
Suggested tour plan is as follows:

Day 1: Arrive.. Tour a\nd walk around
Day 2: pick a Island hopping trip ### / Evening a Cabaret show ^^
Day 3: Pick up another island hopping trip ##/ Evenong , walk around and shop around
Day 4;half day tour around , and Fly home.
<< Comment please>>

Questions:
## Out of many island trips: Phi Phi island, Phang Nga Bay, James Bond island, Coral Island, etc, Which two should i opt for?
** Out of the two nght shows; FantaSea, and Simon Cabaret shows, Which is is considered not to be missed?

I know that all the answers to the above questions are very subjective, and the queations have not been fair. Any way , just love to hear some wishful replies.

Thanks in advance.

Around Songkran is always a nice time of year to visit, usually hot and sunny and if that gets too much for you, the water fight will soon cool you down nicely !!!

Travel Tips for Phuket

Sun and then rain

by hennanights

Phuket has a tropical monsoon climate so it could be fine weather one moment and totally raining buckets the next! I took this picture of my daughter by the pool. One moment she was applying sun tan cream and preparing for a snooze in the sun, the next she was cold and standing in 2 inches of water! As we run for our room we had to avoid dozens of little frogs that had coming out of hiding. We spent the next hour on the porch of our room watching the storm - it was great! When the sun did reappear the air came alive with the sounds of birds, frog and insects who must view the rain as a welcome relief.

This isn't a cultural tip,...

by alisonr

This isn't a cultural tip, more of a reminder about the 500 baht you need to pay at the airport so that you can actaully get out of the counrty! This wasn't included in our trip fare, and you MUST have one of these little thingys to get on your plane! So don't spend ALL your money at the duty free shopping!!

NONE

by XLH

Not very surprisingly, other people who have visited Phuket seemed to have done the same, or almost similar activities as us.

I suspect the reason is because some agency knows we're travelling and hence, the person who picked us up would show us this beaten up catalogue of activities for a fixed price. I think, hence, the prices as quoted could be bargained down if you know where to look.

I would think this tip could belong in the "Tourist Trap" section also.

One Stop Shopping

by pammo about Tesco Lotus

This place kind of reminded me of the Superstore back in Vancouver. It sells lots of stuff (clothes, books, drugstore items, food, electronics, etc.). We bought curry pastes and t-shirts for souvenirs there for cheap. They have lots of neat savoury snacks to try out too, such as Tom Yum pretzel sticks, wasabi peas, crab crackers, etc. You can get lots of other stuff too. Check it out! Curry pastes were about 9 baht. T- shirts were about 59 baht.
