Please visit my Songkhla VT page for some tips on things to see and do:

As for public transport getting there, that depends on where you are coming from. Most people probably travel there from Hat Yai, which is about an hour away. Should be very easy to find a bus going there.

Hi there, i spent a month in Songkhla a few years ago, its a bit quiet there i think because of the troubles with insurgents, but i loved the place, the people are very friendly, Simila beach is good for food and a swim, there are heaps of little bars and restaurants around the town and interesting drives across the harbour on the ferry.
It is easy to get a bus from Hat Yai of a taxi from the airport, i used my Lonely Planet book for all my info, it was right on for prices

Samila Beach Cat and Rat Statues

by Rodan44

Just a few meters away from the Mermaid statue on Samila Beach are the Cat and Rat statues. These statues represent the small Cat and Rat islands, which can be seen just off shore from here. There is a story behind the cat and rat, and a plaque next to the statues details this story. I don't remember it anymore, so you will just have to go there and read it for yourself.

Songkhkla Town - Modest Town

by travelpug

Songkhla Town is actually the provincial capitol of Songkhla province. However, it is less popular among tourists than Hatyai town. (Songkhla is about 30km away from Hatyai).

In terms of history, Songkhla town has longer history. You can tell by some pre-war colonial style buildings on the street. It is a quiet and modest town. The nice thing about Songkhla is that there is a beach front in the city. There are some nice temples around town to visit. Overall, it is very pleasant to visit Songkhla.
