Kau Tang Kuan Hill
by travelpug
Kau Tang Kuan is a temple on top of a small hill. There is a white pagoda on top. It was under repair or renovation when I was there in 2004. According to legend, a dog from the same story of the Cat and Mouse Statue turned into Kau Tang Kuan Hill.
There are two ways to get to the top: walking or taking the furnicular. Visitors can get a good view of Songkhla town from up here.

"Samila Beach"
We took a taxi from the Malaysian/Thai Border at Bukit Kayu Hitam for a shopping trip to Hatyai. But the taxi driver suggested that we go further east to Songkhla to spend a few hours there before making it back to Hatyai. Songkhla is on the Eastern side of the Thai peninsula. After much persuasion we relented and the first place he took us upon arrival was to the Samila Beach. This is a very popular beach lined with white sand and beautiful scenery.
"The Golden Mermaid Statue"
The major landmark of the beach is the Golden Mermaid statue. The statue was erected in 1966 at the promontory of this popular beach.
"The Shaded Footpath"
The beach front is lined with shady pine trees. The beach is about 8km long with an occasional seafood restaurants at the beach front promenade.

Songhkla is a little city at the east coast in the south of Thailand. There is honestly not much too see - only a little mermaid statue (like in Copenhagen).
However, you can enjoy real Thai food that is not especially prepared for tourists because there are not too many...
