There isn't much here for tourists. There is a bus terminus where buses stop for a while going between Phuket and Surat Thani or Ranong.
I have gone there a couple of times from Khaolak to look around. The markets are cheap and due to the lack of farangs products actually have prices on them! In places with a tourist presence nothing is priced and there is effectively 2 prices - 1 low one for Thais and a high one for tourists. This is why haggling is important.
The Chinese Temple in Takua Pa is worth a look also.
