Hotel Nordibek's cosy courtyard by Trekki The best option to stay in Bukhara would have been Hotel Lyab-i-Hauz, but it was a bit too much for my budget. Hotel Fatima (directly at Lyab-i-Hauz) would have been my first choice, but unfortunately it was fully booked. But then I found Hotel Nordibek, located in a side street off Lyab-i-Hauz, which also looked nice and wasn't too expensive.
I got a nice room on the first floor with private bath, TV and air-condition (which is heaven if you go there in bloody hot summer). The room was spacious, new furniture and hot water was available most of the time (during morning, afternoon and evening). Breakfast was quite much and very tasty. They always had yoghurt drinks and fruit drinks in the morning, plus a variety of local and international breakfast food. The courtyard was especially nice, shaded by mats. Usually I took my last coffee here before I went out for strolls through the city. Please look at the website for more information and pictures. The pictures all resemble what I had seen in summer 2006. Price: 15 USD per person per night, including breakfast (paid in USD and not som). New in 2005 by TheWanderingCamel The rooms were comfortable and a good size, there was lots of hot water, the air-conditioning was efficient, the outlook attractive over houses and gardens at the back of the hotel, the staff were obliging, the breakfast generous - the only trouble was, it wasn't the hotel we had originaly booked! The Semurg is Dolores Travels new Bukhara Hotel , they were our agents in Uzbekistan and that's where they changed us to at the last minute. We had been booked into the Lyabi House Hotel in the centre of the old city, instead we ended up a good half hour's walk away - and that through something of a wasteland between the old city and the road the hotel was on. We walked it once -at night with no lighting and many wrong turns and confused directions before a lovely lady took us in hand and led us out of the labrynth. After that we took taxis. It was only a $1 ride but it wasn't where we wanted to be. The hotel was fine, and if new and bland ( there was some nice suzanis on the walls and a pleasant chaikhana out the front but otherwise it was just like any hotel anywhere) are what you like, then go for it. Next time though we shall insist the bookings we make are the bookings we get. Wish we'd been here by TheWanderingCamel This is where we thought we were staying - a charmingly restored old house right in the heart of the Old City, just a few steps from the Lyabi-Khauz. We called in to see what we were missing -which added insult to injury - it looked lovely, the rooms were great, the iwan big and shady - and they were clearly were not heavily booked. Next time! by Rumiya You really can get a very good rest there after wonderful excursion around ancient Bukhara. There are Art Galleries, Souvenir shops, sauna & jacuzzi in the Hotel. Rooms are air-conditioned and very comfortable. This is the only 4 star Hotel in Bukhara.
What I like most is classical music playing in Lobby of the Hotel in the evening. Relaxing in the courtyard, Hotel Mosque Baland by toonsarah, 4 more photos This was probably my favourite of the hotels we stayed in during our trip round Uzbekistan. It’s a small, family-run affair, not much more than a B&B despite its grand name, situated in a residential street on the south western fringes of the old town, about 15 minutes’ walk from the Lyab-i-Hauz. Rooms are grouped around the typical Uzbek central courtyard. Ours was a good size, nicely decorated, clean and with a comfortable large double bed. We had a fridge to keep our water chilled, efficient air-conditioning and a TV we never got round to switching on. The family who run the hotel are friendly and keen to be helpful though they speak little English. They happily changed money for us, served green tea whenever it was wanted at no charge, and other drinks, including beer, at very reasonable ones. On both evenings here we ended the day very pleasantly sitting on the dais in the courtyard, chatting about the day over a vodka or beer. On the second of these evenings this part of town experienced a power cut so we sat for a while by candle-light. The hotel was booked as part of a tour so I can’t be sure of the prices but according to our guidebook it’s $25 to $40, while Marat our guide reckoned $30 for a single, $40 for a double.
The room where breakfast is served is decorated in typical Uzbek style with ganch (carved alabaster) and niches displaying colourful ceramics, and is truly stunning. Breakfasts were pretty good, with the usual drinking yoghurt, bread, cheese and meat supplemented each day by a hot dish (omelette on one, porridge the other). We also had tea there on our first evening and they produced a beautiful cake for Georgina, whose birthday it was – see photos 3 & 4. And OK, this isn’t your usual “unique quality” and it wasn’t my favourite aspect of the hotel, but it has to be mentioned. The toilet in our bathroom had the most unusual seat I’ve come across, covered in a soft slightly fluffy fabric (such as you might use for a child’s pyjamas) adorned with cute cartoon mice (ditto) – see photo 5. It seemed perfectly clean, but didn’t strike us as the most hygienic of decorative touches, especially in a country where regrettably foreign tourists do often have to spend more time than they would like in its vicinity ;) Theme: Bed and BreakfastPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: 18 Mosque Baland StreetPhone: 223 6434Directions: Leave Lyab-i-Hauz through Moneychangers Dome, keep left when the road forks, after c.5 mins turn right almost opposite a ruined madrassah and follow this road more or less straight. Inside Lyabi Haus hotel - inner court by svetik2000 I never chose a random hotel even for an overnight stay so after an extensive research i came up with only two hotels in Bukhara I liked and i decided on this one, because it was already recommended not only by travel agents but by travellers as well. Another good point was that it was one of the few hotels that i could book online in advance and it wasn't too expensive (50 euros for a DBL a night was ok). The staff was really considerate and helpful, as far as i could tell they even spoke Japanese! They have internet facilities, satellite tv, their included breakfast was the best we could hope for and as for the rooms they were decorated with local handcraft things and were spacious and very cosy. I was surprised to see quite a lot of elderly travellers there, but i think it speaks in favour of this hotel - it caters for backpackers and OAP alike.
What I liked most about Lyabi Haus is that it's right in the middle of the old town which means it's ideally (repeat: IDEALLY) located to start your sightseeing from Lyabi Haus(it's an area with a pool, three madrassahs around it and some cafes), from there you can access all other sights on foot. The only drawback is - it's already in the pedestrian area so it might be difficult to drive to it, but still it's the best location you could think of.

Another View of Bukhara's impressive skyline by Groverdean Fatima really looks after you and the rooms are airconditioned and comfortable. We turned up at midnight exhausted and she let us sleep on her living room floor as the hotel was full. She then cooked us some food as well. She also helped us organise everything we wanted included a lift to Khiva. She speaks fluent English. She also is a great cook, and breakfasts were great!

Just step through the front door... by heplion This B&B has everything a traveler could want and the prices are GREAT! The building is owned by the great grandson of the owner of the house, who also hapened to be the last Emir's right hand man. The proprieter told us a great history of the place. His great grandfather came to the Emir to assist him with a war. In reward the Emir asked him what he wanted, anything at all. The man asked simply to have some land to build a house. He built this fantastic place, and the Emir congratulated him on such a fine building and asked "now, what will you do with such a beautiful building" to which he responded "Offer it to you as a gift" After which the Emir took off his robe and gave it to the man, the sybolic meaning being that he was now second in the "but the coat is to big, I can't possibly fit into it" to which the Emir responded by taking off his belt and placing it around the man's waist to hold it on. After this, he was given a high place in the government and was asked to move into the Ark. Later the building was taken over by the KGB and almost completley destroyed. When the innkeeper mentioned that it would be a great tourist destionation if it was renovated they asked him to research its history, to which he was surprised to find, was his own family history!!
If you spend some time with the inn-keeper, he has MANY stories to tell about the city, the building, the country...all very personal and intersting. If you a meal is what you desire, then he wil set up a meal fit for a king, but prised for a peasant, at a local cooks home. Thee inn has a sauna, breakfast included, internet connection, FANTASTIC ronovated rooms, but....beware, very little heat in the winter..... Omar Khayam hotel - Courtyard by aah_stone This was a wonderful hotel and I was lucky to have one of the best rooms in the hotel. A lovely comfortable bed with a lounge room and of course a bathroom. One way I had views across a bustling street and market. The other side was the hotel courtyard where breakfast was served. The staff here are amazing and were quick to help with anything The hotel can offer pick ups and drop offs at the airport and railway station which is pretty handy if you don't like having to sort a taxi out on your own, although it is kind of fun. It can be a little noisy if you opt to have the window open when the staff prepare breakfast tables in the courtyard........... but it is time to get up!! Anyway the aircon is very good and not too noisy. Breakfast is very good and the staff are very quick to serve you. Coffee and tea are freely available. Downstairs is a great little bar for relaxing in during the evening if you are not out and about. This is somewhere I would stay again no questions asked :-) Theme: HotelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: 7, Khakikat StrDirections: Near Kalon Mineret and Mir-I-Arab MedrassaOther Contact: to book I used Advantour
