Salom Inn: Home from Home
We knew we were going to enjoy our stay at Bukhara's Salom Inn. I'd been in frequent contact with Albina at Salom Travel as she and I organised our visit to Uzbekistan and I was looking forward to meeting her and Raisa Salom, the doyenne of independent Uzbekistan's travel agents, and staying in the inn that Raisa built in the old Jewish quarter of the city. With only 15 rooms in the Inn, we expected - and found - a friendly, intimate atmosphere.
The Inn, although relatively new, has been built on the lines of a traditional Uzbek city house, a central courtyard surrounded by two levels of rooms opening onto wide vine-hung verandahs. Breakfast was served in the downstairs dining room, a large outdoor sitting area on the upper floor became our gathering point at the end of each day. Rooms were a comfortable size, well-furnished with nice wide beds (long too - that was something that had definitely changed for the better since our last visit to Uzbekistan when the beds were almost all too short and decidedly hard). Suzanis covered the beds and decorated the rooms and ceramics hung on the outdoor walls, many of them produced by some of Uzbekistan's master artisans (Raisa Salom has been one of the moving forces in the support of the re-emergence of traditional crafts in Uzbekistan). Bathrooms were fresh and clean, though the hot water pressure was not always up to the job. Laundry handed in in the evening was returned first thing the following morning.
Breakfast featured a different and freshly cooked dish each day - pancakes, blinis, buckwheat, omelette, potato cakes, along with fruit, bread and preserves, juices and hot drinks. Cappucinos were on offer, though by the time we got to Bukhara, the Uzbek tea habit was so well established even this coffee-addict didn't feel tempted.
The location is brilliant, not a minute's walk from the Lyab-i-Khauz and easy walking distance to nearly all the city's main sights. The virtually traffic-free side streets of the old city ensure a quiet night's sleep.
Unique Quality: The standout attraction of the Salom Inn is the enthusiatic staff. The manager is just plain gorgeous, a delightful character whose smiling face and cheerful nature is so infectious - you couldn't help but have a good time whilst in her care. Her good nature extended to all the staff, nothing was too much trouble. We all wanted to take her home with us, what an asset she would be to any enterprise.

Hotel Boutique Amelia: Small, sweet, clean and cheap
I was little anxious about the hotel I would stay. The only reason was, the hotel was very cheap and i was not expecting to get much. I was wrong! I told the travel agency to book me a hotel close to main historical place, and they booked Hotel Boutique Amelia. Attached is the pix of my room and I paid only 25$ incl breakfast. Very small hotel with few rooms but totally recommended. They ask you when do you want to have your breakfast and anything special for the menu. You wake up anytime you want and your breakfast is ready. Staff is extremely friendly and receptionist speaks good English.
Other than that, hotel is at the center of main historical area, Lyabi Hauz. Several local restaurants around and citadel and other places are in the walking distance
Unique Quality: Very central location, extremely cheap, big room with big bathroom, breakfast at your time.

Mubinjon’s B&B: Really amazing rooms!
somewhat spartan rooms, but FULL of charm
Unique Quality: Earthier, more traditional and cheaper than most other optioins(USD 10/head), the Tajik home of former Olympic table-tennis player Mubinjon has rooms with mattress beds set around a nice small courtyard.
ANOTHER B&B ON THE SAME STREET HAS PICKED A NAME VERY SIMILAR WITH MUBINJON'S...BE SURE YOU DO NOT MIX THE 2

Unique Quality: The rooms were light with very nice furniture. After all the sightseeing in hot and dusty Bukhara the swimmingpool was just delicious! The hotel has a very nice and individual style. From outside the architecture of hotels shows the traditional colours of bukhara with a blue fassde and yellow brick walls. I liked it very much.
The breakfast buffet was great. The pancakes absolutely fantastic and the rice pudding great!

Hotel Mosque Baland: A friendly home in Bukhara
This was probably my favourite of the hotels we stayed in during our trip round Uzbekistan. It’s a small, family-run affair, not much more than a B&B despite its grand name, situated in a residential street on the south western fringes of the old town, about 15 minutes’ walk from the Lyab-i-Hauz. Rooms are grouped around the typical Uzbek central courtyard. Ours was a good size, nicely decorated, clean and with a comfortable large double bed. We had a fridge to keep our water chilled, efficient air-conditioning and a TV we never got round to switching on.
The family who run the hotel are friendly and keen to be helpful though they speak little English. They happily changed money for us, served green tea whenever it was wanted at no charge, and other drinks, including beer, at very reasonable ones. On both evenings here we ended the day very pleasantly sitting on the dais in the courtyard, chatting about the day over a vodka or beer. On the second of these evenings this part of town experienced a power cut so we sat for a while by candle-light.
The hotel was booked as part of a tour so I can’t be sure of the prices but according to our guidebook it’s $25 to $40, while Marat our guide reckoned $30 for a single, $40 for a double.
Unique Quality: The room where breakfast is served is decorated in typical Uzbek style with ganch (carved alabaster) and niches displaying colourful ceramics, and is truly stunning. Breakfasts were pretty good, with the usual drinking yoghurt, bread, cheese and meat supplemented each day by a hot dish (omelette on one, porridge the other). We also had tea there on our first evening and they produced a beautiful cake for Georgina, whose birthday it was – see photos 3 & 4.
And OK, this isn’t your usual “unique quality” and it wasn’t my favourite aspect of the hotel, but it has to be mentioned. The toilet in our bathroom had the most unusual seat I’ve come across, covered in a soft slightly fluffy fabric (such as you might use for a child’s pyjamas) adorned with cute cartoon mice (ditto) – see photo 5. It seemed perfectly clean, but didn’t strike us as the most hygienic of decorative touches, especially in a country where regrettably foreign tourists do often have to spend more time than they would like in its vicinity ;)

Hotel Minzifa: Merchant's House
This small or 'boutique' hotel is located in a former merchant's house in the old Jewish Quarter. Rooms open directly onto the courtyard.
The rooms are en suite and have satellite television, but are furnished in keeping with the style of the hotel.
Unique Quality: The staff are friendly and helpful (offering a pot of tea on arrival back after a hard day's sightseeing, sending an item left in our room by mistake on to Samarkand by taxi).
Breakfast, which is served in the courtyard, is delicious (yoghurt, fruit, bread, jam, plus a freshly-cooked dish such as omelette or pancakes).

Malika Hotel: located in old city of Bukhara
This hotel looks newly opened or newly renovated hotel in the heart of the Bukhara. You can walk to major historical sites from the hotel. There are more than 30 rooms but some small rooms in another building are included so main building serves approximately 12 rooms with two stories.
My room was for twin with two semi-double beds, sofa, desk, TV with satellite and bath room with bath tab. Height of sealing is quite high, it is about more than 3.5 meters. Heating system which is radiator with steam and air condition is facilitated. Water quality is insufficient so it is not recommended to drink from tap. Receptionist speaks English so international traveller will not have any problem and they are sufficiently kind.
It was off season so it is fewer tourists here. The hotel is quite reasonable facilitation and services. They serve reasonable lunch, dinner but order will be made two hours in advance. The room charge was USD25 per night with breakfast. High season in Uzbekistan starts from 15th of March till beginning of November. They have branch hotel in Tashkent, Samarkand and Khiva.

Hotel Omar Khayam: Hotel Omar Khayam
This was a wonderful hotel and I was lucky to have one of the best rooms in the hotel. A lovely comfortable bed with a lounge room and of course a bathroom. One way I had views across a bustling street and market. The other side was the hotel courtyard where breakfast was served.
The staff here are amazing and were quick to help with anything
The hotel can offer pick ups and drop offs at the airport and railway station which is pretty handy if you don't like having to sort a taxi out on your own, although it is kind of fun.
It can be a little noisy if you opt to have the window open when the staff prepare breakfast tables in the courtyard........... but it is time to get up!! Anyway the aircon is very good and not too noisy.
Breakfast is very good and the staff are very quick to serve you. Coffee and tea are freely available.
Downstairs is a great little bar for relaxing in during the evening if you are not out and about.
This is somewhere I would stay again no questions asked :-)
