This is a very family type bed and breakfast that exist all around Uzbekistan. For an affordable priec ou can stay in a clean place good consitions and stay with a local family that will take care of you as their own.

Nice price, from $15us, maybe you can get it for less than that, its a matter of deeling the price.
The rooms are small rooms all with private bathroom and fan for cooling system.
If you need food ask in advance and suggest you'll pay for it after as if they think you want to eat for free, they will say they have no more food.

Not far from-but not within- the citycentre, Alisher has a place where almost everything is possible.

He has about 7 rooms available, cheapest around $10 (but for this you possibly have to share a bed with the massage lady) - $25/night. It's in a very safe area. You can use small swimming pool and sauna.

It's a small place, with a very informal atmosphere, that doesn't cater only for Lebanese or Arabian businessmen. Moreover this place is slowly getting a cult status amongst travellers although it's not mentioned in the guidebooks. Also I'm sure Alisher will do his utmost possible to help you with everything-like he did for me-.

At Ali-Tour "Foreign Economic Firm" your stay will unlikely be a casual experience! Be warned!
Note: probably not suitable for female single travellers.

Taskent friendliest Hotel is „Ali Tour“. Directly after our arrival Ali gave us to drink and to eat. After our check-in we get more to eat an drink with the result that I had problems to get up the stairs and Ali couldn’t remember the next day that two tourist arrived. But that wasn’t a problem – the next evening we were invited again. We came as strangers and soon we felt like part of the family. Ali and also his stuff are very heartfelt!

Go to the Islam Huja Mosque and ask for a place to sleep. An old woman will take you to a house (number 52) where you find lovely rooms. We had a big spacious room (spotless) with everything you need: clean sheets, big beds...
Extra room for us: dining room with attached bathroom (some minor problems with the hot water). For the food: see other tips
Very good value at 7.50 US$ per person per night (after negotiation)

Guest Houses, with good food and a way to meet people. Be sure there is running water! And electricity. These places are somehow networked, but as is all else here be prepared to go with the flow. They all serve great breakfasts, but also whatever is served you have to eat as it is a big deal! The Bazaars are such fun, silk from the silk road and all sorts of fabrics. Bring an extra suitcase just for the silk, cotton and hemp you will buy!

  • 25 $ for one person full board (3 good and filling meals per day)

Maybe the best option for a visit of Khiva, I paid 25 $ for full board which is a good bet because it is virtually impossible to find anything to eat within the walls of Khiva. The food in Arkanchi's is OK.

  • Depends on how you exchanged your Sum - for sum from 'black market' I would say you get what you paid for.

It is outstanding in the sense that you can still experience the atmosphere of a genuine, although already dying Soviet INTOURIST hotel. With a Dezhurnaya on every floor, the lobby day and night filled with lots of uniformed and plainclothe police hanging around, second class 'bisnessmeni' and other folks without identifieable function but plenty of time.
The rooms are really worn down, the locks of the doors react after some time to your various actions with maybe any key.
I thought that Apartheid is definitely dead after the changes in South Africa but here it seems still to be alive. Different reception desks for Uzbeks and Non-Uzbeks (although the staff on both speaks only Uzbek and Russian), different breakfast rooms and different rates, of course. But since the Sum is officially the only llegal means of payment you can pay in Sum, independent how you exchanged them. This way the rate was corresponding to the quality offered.
