Hotel Orzu - good value

On my second stay in Tashkent I simply could not stand the idea of having to have 5 vodkas at Ali in the morning before setting out to stroll through the city, so I was looking for alternatives. From Lonely Planet, Hotel Orzu sounded a good alternative, as it is located not too far from the centre (well, in my “dimensions”).
It proved to be a good decision, it is nothing extra special, but has a friendly and helpful management, which makes up for the not that much extra special rooms.
My room was not big, but sufficient size for bed, desk, closet and bathroom with hot shower. Daily room service, very clean. Not much noise, as the rooms seem to be located at the back side. I had some of my money in my backpack, and the backpack was never touched. In the lobby, I always noticed a security guy, but he didn’t have much to do, as it seems to be a secure neighbourhood.

Breakfast is served in a small room (with not much charm), but has buffet a big selection of fresh fruit, several different bread, cereals, yoghurt, cold cuts, cheese, marmelade and… Nutella (the Uzbek version, but delicious as well). The servants are helpful as well, in the small adjoining kitchen they’ll prepare you anything else you need (eggs any style, hot chocolate, hot milk, etc).
The receptionists (young people) have been always very helpful on any question I had. They also change money (it seems, no limitation).

Unique Quality: What I liked with this hotel was that a lot of small restaurants are nearby, so it was easy to have dinner without having to get too far away.
Art Café Dervish (for REAL espresso) is located just south in the same road, another good restaurant next door (to Art Café). A small chaikhana is located on the way to the main street (Rustavelli), several small snack restaurants a bit further northeast on Rustavelli, and around the corner of Hotel Orzu was the Greenhouse Café, which served nice salads and Russian dishes.

Price was 15 USD per person per night (paid in USD, not in som).

Careful - don't mix up with Grand Orzu, which is also close by, but a bit more expensive. The pictures in the website below are exactly how I have perceived and seen the hotel.
