HaLong Bay tours - great deals (continued)
by SumTingWong
Day 2: Kayaking? Swimming? Snorkeling
A morning cruise in a private junk on the crystalline emerald green waters of Cat Ba (LanHa Bay) and HaLong bay, among the 3000 spectacular limestone islands. The boat stops at an ideal location for sea kayaking as we paddle through a maze of islets amid dramatic natural scenery. With our kayaking equipment, we are able to maximize speed and maneuverability as we paddle through the open sea and explore the many hidden lagoons and stalactite caves that are difficult to access by any other means. Return to Cat Bat town. Overnight in hotel.
Day 3: Return to Hanoi
After breakfast, take another boat trip to visit another part of HaLong bay. Enjoy lunch on the boat, then take the bus to visit the Bai Chay Ferry, the most important traffic point of HaLong city. Bus back to Hanoi 5.30pm.

Food Festival in Kien An District
by PetraTravels
This food festival was arranged around the Ho Hanh Phuc (Hanh Phuc lake) in Kien An on 27-28 Sept 2003. Kien An, located southwest from Haiphong City, does not see many foreign visitors and we (4 Western girls) became quickly the main attraction of the festival. One of our teachers in the university gave us the directions to the district, and the taxi ride took about half an hour. There was not much to see so we drove back quite quickly, but it was an interesting cultural experience!
Haiphong City
by PetraTravels
"No tourists - but not so much to see either!"
Haiphong is the third largest city in Vietnam. It is also one of the most important port cities. Haiphong does not offer much for a tourist, and most people just drive through the city and catch a boat to Halong City or Cat Ba island. If you reallyreally want to spend a day or more in Haiphong, I hope you can find my tips useful; I was stuck in Haiphong for a full month in Sep-Oct 2003! Check out also Haiphong.gov.vn
More info about Ha Long Bay and Cat Ba island can be found from my Ha Long page:

"Life in Haiphong Teachers Training University"
Here I spent my first month in Vietnam! Visit my Haiphong Teachers Training University travelogue for more photos.
Studying in a Vietnamese university can be complicated. Foreign literature is not easily accessible and slow internet connections make communication difficult. On the other had, especially language tuition was very effective, as people do not speak so much English in Haiphong. Besides, how many universities have chickens in their backyard??
