Kim Thanh Hotel: Hotel in Haiphong
The hotel is clean, central and reasonably priced
Unique Quality: This hotel is centrally located at 67 Dien Bien Phu Street. As at January 2008 a comfortable room includes breakfast and ADSL internet in your room (free, note what this means is connect your own laptop). Cost at the time of writing is USD$28 per night. This hotel is 5 minutes from the airport and is surrounded by plenty of shops, a supermarket nearby and ATMs close by. Reasonably quiet at night time, by Vietnam standards.

Sleeping on board
If you come to visit the bay on an organised tour, you will have 2 chances to spend the night:
- On board of the same ship.
- In a hotel at CatBa Island, where you will be disembarked after dinner and picked up next day.
I slept on board, which was a little more expensive, but a totally recommended experience. It was so nice to have a night dring on the upper desk under the 1000 stars...
Besides, you have your own cabin to take a shower after swimming, leave your belongings locked there...
