Accomodation next to Ben Thanh Market
by peterANDsharon about Saigon Pink 2 hotel
Nice and clean hotel, about 1 minute walk to the Ben Thanh Market. Close to everything!
We walked from the Saigon Pink 2 hotel to the Grand post office, Notre Dame cathederal, War museum, and reunification palace all in 1 day. It is 1 street back from Le Loi street, so its alot quieter, and there were less cyclo drivers than in other areas.

Good mid-price hotel
by betska about An An 2 Hotel
This hotel is in the Pham Ngu Lao area.
We found this to be a great area to stay in Saigon. Plenty of great bars & restuarants and also this is where we were able to book all our day tours and on going travel.
We had a room on the 5th floor so had a great view over some of the rooftops, and saw some day-to-day life of some of the neighbouring locals.
Our room had 3 single beds, clean crisp white sheets, very clean, modern bathroom and a room safe - the only one that we had in all our travels in Vietnam. We paid US$12 each per night here. It was the most expensive place that we stayed for the whole of our trip but we were very happy here. The staff were lovely as well and there was free internet in the foyer.
accomodation in Cantho
by locbuuloc
Did you mean how hard it is to get around "Cantho" city? If so, the answer is "not hard at all".
1)Referring to the question about hotel recommendation in Cantho: first choice is Victoria Hotel (nice location, nice service and helpful staff and more); second choice would be Golf Hotel (nice hotel, cheaper than Victoria Hotel), third option is Ninh Kieu 2 hotel or its other name is Nha Khach Mien Tay (on Hoa Binh Avenue - This is a brand new hotel just finished this year).
2)To hire a bike, just talk to the hotel staff where you stay and they will help you work it out. If not there are different travel agents (The Cantho tourist Company for example) could help you with this. It should not be any hard. They are building a new Dau Sau bridge on the road connecting Cantho city centre to the Cai Rang floating market. At the present, a temporary bridge is used. The problem is there is always traffic congestion around 6 to 8 in the morning and 4 to 6 in the afternoon near the bridge. So be ware of that when you do the riding tour). Visit the English version of the website of Cantho for more information:
www.cantho.gov.vn then choose the English version
3)I do not know what market you meant in your post (because you said "visit Cai Markets markets") Is it Cai Be (In Tien Giang province) or Cai Rang (in Can Tho city). They are 2 different ones. Anyway, you can arrange a boat for your floating market tour by talking with the hotel staff where you stay or visit a travel agent. You may see some people approach you on street and ask if you want to visit the floating market and then offer their own tour to you. They are local residents who own few boats and run their own business which offers floating markets tours to tourists. Have a chat with them and see if you like to go with them or not. Travel agents usually have better English speaking guides.
4)There are hydrofoils travelling between Cantho and Cambodia. However because you want to see Chau Doc and then cross the border into Cambodia, you can get help from your hotel to book mini bus tickets. Visit this address for more information about Chau Doc (An Giang province):

Good luck and have fun.

Nymph Hotel
by manja62
Hi..does anyone know have the contact no. for Nymph Hotel. This hotel is very very near to the Ben Thanh market. I have tried to call but the no. (8247561)is not in service. I have also emailed (pkcvn@hcm.vnn.vn)but received no reply. Can anyone help me to get the correct no. or email address?
Thank you.

Actually, I'm going near there today or tomorrow to play pool. Most small hotels don't answer emails because of the language barriers or they simply don't want to take the time. Phones are keyed in differently her depending on whether its a landline or a cell phone. Very confusing to me. I see it on the mapping program and I've walked past that alley many times without even noticing it. It's maybe only a hundred meters from Ben Thanh Market.
Is there something you want to ask them if the phone number or a good email address can't be obtained?

Thank you MikeinVietnam. My purpose is to make a room booking for my stay from 3-6 July. I've stayed there before and the hotel location is very convenient since I may need to make several trips to the market daily. I really appreciate if you could get me their contact no. for me to make the booking.
Next to Nypmh Hotel is another hotel..starts with Pink.. or something. That hotel would be ok too. By the way..are you currently living in HCM? Rgds.

ok. I'm waiting for the elctricity to be cut off for the day. I will go downtown after that. At least I'm assuming it will be cut today. We have rolling blackouts to conserve power. Saigon depends on hydroelectric power from the rivers upstream and the south has been in a drought for many months.
I will stop there today when I'm downtown. The Pho 2000 restaurant on the corner has a good chicken curry. For me, its spicy enough to taste the chili and ingredients as well. Some places serve it so hot you can't taste anything beyond the chili.
Yes, I've lived in Vietnam for almost four years now.

Good thing you mentioned the Saigon Pink 2 Hotel. The Nymph Hotel was closed and boarded up. Looks to have been closed a while ago. The clerk at Pink hotel spoke some English and I asked if they actually reply to emails. She said the Owner or Manager does that daily.

Thank you very much mikeinvietnam. It is very kind of you to actually dropped by at the hotel and got me the information. How much would the taxi cost from the airport to this hotel? Rgds.
Re: Nymph Hotel
by mikeinvietnam
I'd say about 90,000 to 120,000 VND, or $5 to $6.50 USD. Another dollar or two if you are taken for the 'scenic tour'

Thank you again MikeinVietnam. I sent an email but received no reply. Finally I called and made my booking.

An An 2, Siagon Comfort, Kim Hotel or Happy Inn
by Stekmer
I’ve been looking at hotels in the Pham Ngu Lao area and trying to make a decision as to the best option for a 3 night stay in March. I’ve narrowed it down to An An 2, Siagon Comfort, Kim Hotel or Happy Inn. Last time I stayed in Lac Vien. I liked the location but their prices have gone up for a basic room (with no window).
My criteria are;
• US$ 30 for a double room (breakfast not necessary)
• A lift
• Room with a window
• Wi Fi included
• Located around Bui Vien St and De Tham
Has anyone stayed in any of these hotels recently?

We stayed at An An 2 hotel in March'08. I have a short review on my HCMC page.
3 of us paid US$36 for a room with 3 single beds, aircon, room safe, and we were very happy staying here. It was very central to everything, including lots of good little resturants, and all of the tour agencies. Ours was room 051 on the 5th floor, great views of HCMC buildings etc. The windows opened, but we shut them at night to keep out the noise from the nightclub opposite. We booked direct with the hotel, but did not use their pick-up service from the airport (can't remember their charge for this) we got the local bus in, it dropped us almost right outside An An2.
Not sure about Wi Fi, but there was free internet at reception.

We stayed at Happy Inn back in Feb 08 whilst on our honeymoon and loved it. We went for the top floor room with the big balcony which was perfect, though may have been more like $40. Friendly service, close to everything and clean and tidy! It is pretty new so everything works well including the lift.
We are going back there in a bit over a week, looking forward to it!
