Excellent location for a great price

The hotel was in a very good location-near many restaurants, bars, sights, grocery stores and wonderful shops. The hotel had an elevator, was air conditioned and the staff was most helpful. There was an internet cafe right next door. No room service but you could order food and have it delivered. There was also no ice machine but when we requested ice they brought us a ginormous bag full of ice. TV had lots to watch, maid service everyday and was very clean. The price was $50 US a night.

There are two An An Hotels. The other one is basically around the corner. I think it's called the An An Hotel 2.

Best room in Backpackerland?

I managed to get a room at the AnAn at short notice as HCM city was very busy during my stay this April.
I enjoy staying close to but not necessarily in the Pham Ngu Lao area as it can be noisy for a light sleeper like myself. My spacious room on the 6th floor was a bright, clean and well decorated oasis in this hectic area, even numbered rooms seem a better option as they are probably a bit quieter. Bathrooms are equipped with all modcons, mine had full size bath, shower with good water pressure and all the complimentary amenities you would need for a stay.
Staff in the small lobby were very friendly and helpful and always had my roomkey to hand as soon as I walked in. An airport transfer is easily arranged and tours can be booked in the reception at very competitive prices. This hotel seems to have a good reputation judging by the number of people who were being turned away daily, better to make a reservation

Unique Quality: Very good rooms in the middle of the backpacker area. Efficient friendly staff with good language skills, elevator to all floors, very clean

There are only two hotels....

by moxie_java

There are only two hotels. Either is acceptable.
I recommend the hotel directly across from the former KGB headquarters.
$6 US one night The price of the hotel was only about $6 per night. There was a jucuzi in the hotel which was a nice break from the cold. There is a small restaurant in the hotel which served adequate meals.

Lake Palace Hotel

by Foxcroft about Lake Palace Hotel

An old Rajah's palace in the middle of a lake. The views are magnificant and the ambiance is wonderful. Unfortunately the rooms are rather drab and the food is mediocre. We had a room on the top floor (third but no elevator) and the views in the evening are breathtaking from the rooms balcony.

Thailand - Bangkok

by keeweechic about The Mandarin Hotel

The Mandarin Hotel is where I stayed. They have recently renovated their 400 rooms and suites. There is a choice of restaurants and a round the clock coffee shop. There is a shopping arcade as well. I was quite impressed. There was about a 10min walk to Robinsons department store.

Cambodia - Phnom Penh

by keeweechic about City Central Hotel

My hotel in Phnom Penh (which was listed as being 5 Star) City Central Hotel was not the standard of a 5 Star that we expected but this we were told was the norm in Cambodia. It was however your usual tourist class and clean and tidy. Water pressure wasn't great due to the tank being on the roof and no actual plumbing to pump the water for pressure and the shower was a hand held style with no wall mounting.

Siem Reap - Cambodia

by keeweechic about Hotel Ta Promh

Hotel Ta Promh - a nice looking hotel with comfortable decor. The room was fairly basic but clean and tidy. A little noisy if you are on the ground floor. The hotel caters mainly to package deals. Breakfast was included.
. Opposite a little park and river and up the street from a local market.

I suggest Lan Anh hotel at district 1, De Tham street.
Excellent location, clean rooms, tv, a/c, balcony, bathtube and breakfast included. Prices from 13 to 16 USD.
We have been there two times(2002 and 2004) and can highly recommend it.
Contact info on my HCMC page.
