Walk around
by hassan_abu
Walking (or riding around in a cyclo) is the best way to absorb the sights and sounds of this city, as most places of interest are located in the central District 1. A walk along the riverfront is an ideal way to enjoy the constant activity on the Saigon River, as small and large boats ply to and from the opposite bank. Dong Khoi Street, once again the main shopping street in the city, is crammed with gift shops, tailors, jewellers and
restaurants.
At one end of this street are Notre Dame Cathedral and the huge central Post Office, with its enormous portrait of the former President, Ho Chi Minh.

You're bound to need access to money while travelling. Head to HSBC Bank where you can obtain currency in dong or dollars. It's located in the Metropolitan Building on Nguyen Du and Dong Khoi.
The Canadian Consulate is on the 9th Floor.
Enjoy the Scenery

The Vietnamese know how to relax. Walk down any street in HCMC and you're bound to find someone just sitting, chatting, drinking, reading or catching a quick nap. When all is hectic, why not grab a seat and watch the world go by? HCMC is "The" city for people watching.
Something vietnameses are proud of...

Sinh Cafe's Cu Chi Tunnels tour. Half day trip. Around 2 hrs of bus ride from Sinh Cafe office to Cu Chi Tunnels. Bus is small, and if u have long legs, good luck to you. At Cu Chu Tunnels, u will get to see... err... tunnels (what else??), bobby traps, war-related stuff and so on.
Reproduction Paintings
by Clodagh about Workshop Hai
There are tons of Art reproduction shops around Pham Ngu Lao (backpacker area). I bought a Diego Rivera painting for about $40 from this store (see attached busines card photo). I have also bought paintings from Minh (owner) since i came home and find her to be very reliable and very talented. Bring a good quality A4 copy of a painting from home including details of it's size and medium. Very resonable. I bought a approx 1M sq oil on canvas for €85 including shipping to Ireland but i guess the cost depends on the complexity of the painting.
