Great hotel at a fantastic price!

Room and toilet was decently sized and clean.
Location is fantastic, stone's throw away from Dong Khoi and short walk to Ben Than market.
Lots of eating places around as well.

Nice, clean and cheap!

The hotel has great customer service... But no facilities (or is it I never get to use it?)...

It's just a nice place to sleep after the many shoppings and day trips....

There are a few eateries along the place (finding food is not a problem) and a cafe just opposite the hotel...

Price wise, I would consider it very cheap...

I had a bad experience at the hotel where my souveniers were stolen from my room so better to keep your stuff in a locked bag... I dont remember they having a safe in the room..

Downtown

I keep reccomending this place ever since some friends stayed there and gave good reports. Clean, good service and location, just behind the Opera House and walking distance to shopping and a lot of the sights. A welcome change tp PNL.

Comfy rooms in a great location!

Our stay here was very comfortable.. Beds with soft linens(see website for picture), bathtub(for deluxe and above) with hot shower(good water pressure), clean and modern interior, a balcony overlooking the streets.

Great locale- nearby hotels were caravelle, hyatt and rex hotel. It was walking distance to opera theatre, many good (mix of budget and fine dining) restaurants, le loi street where there're a lot of shops with fantastic bargains. With breakfast thrown in as well, it was such Great unbelieveable value!

It was just usd$30/night for a triple sharing deluxe room. I had a couple of friends who also stayed in their standard room which had a glass shower and a window view. Same comfy beds with soft linens and very clean, modern bathroom with glass shower. Standard rooms were only going for usd$20/night. I still can't get over what great value this place offers. There's free internet access on their PC(winXP) for those who can't live without their daily internet fix.

Don't expect a buffet breakfast though. There's a simple menu where you get to choose a food item and a beverage item, which consists of the basics. Food items were Bread with jam/butter, ham and cheese sandwich, toast with eggs, Croque monseur & beef noodles (do not get the beef noodles bcoz it's just instant noodles with beef, not the regular vietnamese type). Beverages include, vietnamese coffee, tea and juices. (coffee is highly recommended! if you are a coffee-lover, you will fall in love with the thick vietnamese coffee- although this hotel doesn't serve the best coffe in town but it's a taste of what it's like. just across the street is a Pho24 outlet where you can get better coffee-not the best i'm sure but pretty good too! thick and fragrant with condensed milk)

Unique Quality: Clean bathrooms and beds with soft comfy white linens. (see website for picture)
Street views from balcony. (If you are a light sleeper, get the standard rooms that do not face the street or ask for a room on a higher level)
Hair dryer on request
Clean towels
Shampoo/soap provided
clean white bath tub with good pressure hot water shower
Carpeted floors
Cable TV (many channels including HBO, cinemax and star movies)
Mini bar fridge (where we kept our bottled water) -do not drink tap water!
24-hour reception
Lounge area with free internet access

Indochine Hotel

The room was suprising clean and nice with a balcony. However, as I stayed in the 2nd floor and my room faced the main road, the noise of the traffic was quite loud. Only bad if you are a light sleeper like me. Only thing I dislike was the breakfast. I was in a triple-sharing room and when we went down for breakfast, we were told that breakfast was only provided for two. This was not mentioned when we booked the room and the lady was unfriendly. Airport transfer was arranged by the hotel was also over-charged. My advice is to stay on higher floors and get a metered-taxi for the airport transport. Overall, I would still go back to stay as the location is not bad.

Ho Chi Minh City

I'm travelling to HCM Oct 31st for a conference - one week. I'd love to stay with a local / international family but would need easy access to the central business district (Sheraton). Any ideas?

Did you mean homestay?

I suggest you should stay at the backpacker area, Pham Ngu Lao. There are many nice houses overthere but you cannot walk to Sheraton, it is about 10 mins by motobike to Sheraton.

Homestay is not common in Vietnam. And the houses around District 1 are very small because they are very expensive.

There are many hotels around Sheraton. Please let me know if you need my recommendation.

Cheers
Hien
