Re: semi precious stones in ho chi minh

by icequeen_n_snow

Ho Chi Minh is not really a great place to buy raw gems in Vietnam and so far I haven't heard or seen any places that sell raw gems in Ho Chi Minh. Vietnam has great sources of Ruby and sapphire in Luc Yên - Yen Bai province, Quy Chau and Quy Hop - Nghe An province, Đac Nong - Dac Lac province. They are also the raw gems centers of Vietnam. Most of jewelers has to buy their gems from these place so If you pass buy any of these places then you should buy the gems here instead. The price depends on the power of your bargaining.

Travel Tips for Ho Chi Minh City

From the Airport to your hotel

by thomyorke

I suggest to go out of Tan Son Nhat Airport and look for the taxis lining up at front. Most of the taxis are in white color and they're called Meter Taxis. Some drivers would offer you immediately after stepping out of the airport but they charge too much.

Plastic Savior

by Unknownsu

Most major credit cards are accepted in Vietnam, such as Visa and Master cad, being the most popular. American Express can also be used but fewer places know of this card. Diner's Club is almost unheard of. There have been credit cards scams in the past but that is the past. I have used mine many times and never once have I been charged for something I did not purchase. For security reasons and reassurance, make sure you call your credit card company and tell them you are planning a trip and the locations in which you intend to visit.

Though I highly doubt the barber on the streets will accept it, it doesn't hurt to ask. ^_^

Modern fashion

by Jim_Eliason

The latest in fashion for Vietnamese girls includes a hat either as shown or baseball cap along with a scarf over the face. This both protects them from fumes while riding and also is used to prevent tanning as light skin is considered preferable.

A Gentle Jungle

by NedHopkins

Compared with those in South America, the jungle in and around the Mekong Delta is not forbidding. Much has been cut away; people live in and near what remains, on all the larger islands and some of the smaller ones as well.

It's like, on a smaller scale, the jungle that lies between the many branches of the Amazon before, at, and after Belem.

The most visited islands are dotted with souvenir shops and stands offering Coca Cola, Lays potato chips, and Viet snacks.

Ben Tanh Market - all-u-can-think-of shopping

by tremendopunto about Stores & Markets

The Ben Tanh Market is located in the center and offers everything you can think of: from clothes, bags to art and tea, coffee, food, electronics and dvds.....but it is quite touristy so dont forget to bargain. Sometimes a specialized shop (I compared with tea shop or backstreet dvd shops) offer better prices.
