Dishonest & unhelpful hotel staff

Daily free Breakfast at the hotel is horrible. Great proximity to Ben Thanh Market and centrally located. However, I would not recommend to anyone. My hardy samsonite suitcase in my hotel room was pried open, with the attached lock greatly damaged. Everything in the room looks normal when I returned. It was only when I returned from sightseeing, then with close scrutiny, realised someone touched my suitcase. Valuable items my suitcase went missing. The hotel refuse to assist me to contact the police nor allowed the police to investigate. Even though allowed to look at the CCTV and saw only their housekeeping staff went into my room, they wouldnt want to confront them. They even refuse to pay for the damage. I showed them the evidence of a sharp tiny tool left on the floor which is probably used to force open the lock.

They refuse to assist to log down a complain and insist that I write it myself. After writing a complain, they refuse to acknowledge my claim thereby making insurance claim difficult without proper documentation. Manager was not helpful and refuse to put up for compensation for my damaged suitcase. There is no safe in the hotel room. You can only request the reception to safekeep for u with a written receipt. They do not have good safe at front desk. It is like those metallic normal office cabinet which they did not have a proper lock. That's where they keep your passport throughout your stay in their hotel.
Note that: they do not accept photocopies of your passport upon check in.

Le Toit Gourmand

by cochinjew

Has any one dined at this establishment? I have read good reviews but would like the opinion from VT. Is it worthwhile a detour to HCMC?

Re: Le Toit Gourmand

Hi
That's great if you have dinner in HCM city.
You can choose and change many good meals in restaurants or in....market
Have you ever eaten in Ben Thanh Market?
That's unforgetable. If you just like to go to beaches or go shopping after arriving you will miss the traditional stlyle there.
I think you should taste "pho", go to visit and buy something at float market
and soupe of fish is good
Cheers
for more information, you can visit:

I have visited Vietnam about 15 times, what i wanted to know specifically about Le Toit Gourmand. Have you dined there? I am not interested in information about eating elsewhere as I have them already. I would like specific recommendation about this restaurant.

Travel Tips for Ho Chi Minh City

Internet Connection ?

by Dy2005

Internet VNN Club has one of the best rates available. It's modern, airconditioned, housed in one of the nicest and newer building in HCMC (Saigon Center) and it's cheaper than some other cybercafes in the town. 2nd floor of Saigon Centre (next to escalator)

Eg, 60 mins for 6,000 VND! That is so unbelievable or 3 hours for only 16,000 VND! Let me know if you can find any better offer!

Toilet? Where's the Toilet?

by Aidy_p

This is one important Vietnamese word that you'll need to keep in mind, and that's Nha Ve Sinh (Pronounced as Nya Vay Sing). Don't try creative ways of acting out a toilet scene, nor say words like WC.

Chinese Bakeries (II)

by SirRichard

These are the shops I was talking about. So colourful and mysterious... and all the same all over Saigon. They seemed to sell the same kind of stuff, a kind of marzipan, sweet, with a hard surface... delicious!!
You will find many in Cholon, the Chinese district, but also in many places around town.

Hash House Harriers

by 34N118W

If you think you'd enjoy running or walking in the Vietnamese countryside, then join the Hash! They meet every Sunday at 2:30pm at the Caravel Hotel. It costs about 200,000 dong ($13 US), which covers transportation and all you can drink beer or water. Most people opt for the beer. =P Make sure you bring your sense of humor as members will intitiate you with a little fun trash talk. Don't take it personally. It's all in good fun. =)

Bullocks

by keeweechic

Bullocks are a common sight on the road and in the fields. The old traditional methods of farming are still upheld. Most of the rice farming is done by hand and bullocks.
