Beijing to Ho Chi Minh

by bambalouni

Hello.
What would be the most economical and efficient way to travel from Beijing to Ho Chi Minh (Saigon). Do you recommend a specific airline?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Re: Beijing to Ho Chi Minh

Try Vietnam Airlines direct from Beijing to Ho Chi Minh City.

I believe China Southern Airlines is the cheapest - a connecting flight. Vietnam Airlines is one-stop service. There does not seem to be a nonstop on the route.

Vietnam Airlines flies from Beijing to Ho Chi Minh City via Hanoi. Air China flies from Beijing to Ho Chi Minh City via Nanning, Guangxi. Pick your choice.

China Southern Airlines flies from Guangzhou only to Ho Chi Minh City.

by liemel225

this is the arrival-departure card given to all passenger bound for Vietnam
this one piece serves as your document of entry for both immigration and customs
upon arrival, and on leaving the airport, you will be left with 1/3 of the card
which you have to surrender to immigration upon departure

Main areas

Saigon' heart is located between the Le Loi Ave and the river. There you have the 2 main hotels (Rex & Continental), many restaurants and souvenir shops at Dong Khoi street (the one from Caravelle Hotel to the river).

If you follow Le Loi to the west, in 10 minutes you arrive to the Pham Ngu Lao area, full of backpackers Guesthouses, travel agencies and local restaurants.

Ho Chi Mihn City or Saigon??

by tampa_shawn

Is it OK to call Ho Chi Mihn City, SAIGON…? YES

In fact, most Vietnamese locals prefer the pre 1975 name of “Saigon”…the name Ho Chi Mihn just doesn’t match the city…Saigon is just too zany, loud, independent and free-enterprising…to be named after a communist leader…no matter how loved

Pictured here...Dong Khoi street from the rooftop of the Rex Hotel...Dong Khoi was
known as Tu Do Street (meaning FREEDOM) to the American GIs during the war....it had a glut of bars (enough said)...now it has fancy high end boutiques and souvenir shops

Insect Repellent and sunscreens are a must

Vietnamese family and friends over there loves American wares. Bring soap, toothpaste, mouthwash. If you come during raining season, bring an Anorek for sudden shower in the afternoon. I didn't have any problem in November. I brought stuff for upset stomach. Luckily I didn't have to use it. If you wear contact lenses, bring eyes drop or better yet, wear your glasses. It's so dusty there that you won't be able to go all day in your contact lenses.
Also, bring a small pack of wet wipes. They come in handy in some restaurants that don't have napkins. When eating at restaurants, don't use those cloth towels. It's OK to use the disposable wet wipes. Also, they charge you for using those.

A Trip Down Mekong River

by Aidy_p

I experienced the Mekong River when I was in Thailand. So this is the second time going down the Mekong River. We took a day tour of My Tho and Ben Tre to see how the Vietnamese people live along the river. Some parts of the tour was recreated for the tourist, but the experience was still great.

The Mekong river starts from Tibet, before snaking along China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and then to Vietnam. This is definitely an important river for many countries.

After a 2 1/2 hours on board the bus, it was nice to reach the town of My Tho where we started our Mekong River trip.
