You haven't mentioned what sort of hotel you prefer eg character, 5-star, local with charm, dirt cheap, etc. The Pham Ngu Lao backpacker area has plenty of hotels if you want an area with some character and not far from Ben Tanh markets. One of the better ones is the Elios. Down on Dong Koi St in the centre of town the Huong Sen is a great hotel for the price and has a pool. Going slightly better you then have the Rex and the Grand in that area (District 1) and more upmarket again the Sofitel and the Caravelle.

This is the one I stayed in.

Chancery Saigon All Suite Hotel - 3-star
Rooms have a sitting room and a bedroom. Free internet, cable TV. It also has a gym, although I didn’t check it out. Good location—walking distance to numerous attractions if you are a good walker; a $2-3 taxi ride otherwise.

Here r some hotels u can make a stay: Oscar hotel, Duxton hotel, Rex hotel...( ( 1 tip for ya, when booking a hotel u'd better book via a travel agency 'coz u always get a lower price than u walk in to that hotel n book directly, that's my experience 'coz i'm working in a travel agency so i know that for sure). Anyway, those hotels r near the center, easily going to the airport, n the price is not so hight like other hotels like Caravelle or Sheraton...
If u want a cheap price i think u can stay in Pham Ngu Lao street or Bui Vien street, we call it foreigner town ( or backpacker area), hotels there r really cheap n also near the center too, but it's pretty busy n kinda noisy there.
If u wanna visit Cu Chi tunnels u should make it in the morning ( depart around 8am is the best) 'coz if u make it late at noon u will definately have terrible traffic jams on the way home in the afternoon. Btw, when u finish Cu Chi early at noon, u can spend ur very little time to visit around for city tour, such as visit Notre Dame Cathedral, Central post office, War remnants museum or Reunification palace...
Hope u have a good trip,
Good luck ;)

Travel Tips for Ho Chi Minh City

Try the food!!!! Other than...

by Unknownsu

Try the food!!!! Other than being inexpensive, everything is just out of this world! I advise you to just go all out and try everything! OMG, and the fruits....all those exotic fruits you just can't find anywhere else....MMmmmmMMMmmmmmm There was one time some friends of mine were having this little bowl of a red jelly-like substance.....so out of curiosity, I asked what it was they were eating....they told me it was 'Ox Blood'.....Like YUK!!!! Sorry but I could not bring myself to eating or drinking for that matter something like that!!

Vietnamese Currency

by xuessium

The Vietnamese currency is the Dong. It is not available outside of Vietnam, so you have to bring in other major currencies (such as the US dollar or the Euro) and exchange for the Vietnamese Dong.

It is roughly about 15500 Dongs to 1 US Dollar. (rate as of Dec 2003)

Haircuts / Hoc Toc

by 34N118W

If you're in need of a haircut, or just a little pampering, check out the Armani Beauty Center at 40-42 Dong Du ST. in District 1. A haircut will cost you a lot more here than getting it done by a street barber, but you'll be happier with it in the end. Haircuts are especially pleasant in Vietnam because they're followed up by a head and shoulder massage. Armani Beauty Center also offers a variety of other services including manicures, waxing, and breast firming and stimulation..... huh? Hey, I'm just relaying information here! =)

Weather

by keeweechic

It is monsoonal in the north, bringing a hot, rainy season from mid-May to mid-September and a warm, dry season from mid-October to mid-March. Occasional typhoons from May to January bring extensive flooding to the middle regions of Vietnam.

Ho Chi Minh Military Museum

by Blatherwick

Just across D Nguyen Binh Khiem, at 2 DL Le Duan stands this military museum. The inside details the liberation of the South. Outside stands a bunch of military equipment from both sides. Moderately interesting if you are a military buff but not an essential stop. You could make it a stop on the way to the History Museum and/or the zoo.

It is open Tuesday-Saturday, 8-11:30 am and 1:30-4 pm.
