    Phoenix 74 Hotel

    by

Phoenix 74 is run by 3 genertions of 1 family, parents, 2 daughters and 1 granddaughter who are all very friendly and helpful. Although it is only a small hotel it served us well and had everyhting we needed. The rooms are quite small my firned and I were lucky ot get a large front room all had air con and private batrooms and included breakfast.
There are still plenty of much cheaper places to stay around HCM.

Unique Quality: The location was perfect for our needs close enought to many shops, restaurants and the market.
The hotels are not in the same league as one would expect from the Hilton or Solfitel but are clean and comfortable.

Reasonable pricing, central location great service all add to the charm of this hotel. The clean and simple hotel, the main backpacker road. The tastefully decorated, well lit rooms with their wooden furniture make for a comfortable stay and the elevator makes getting to them quite easy. They provide brakfast too

1wk trip. Advisable to just book 2 nights hotel only? budget hotel to recommend?

by xinyiproductionhouse

we are 4 girls travelling overseas on our own(without family) for the first time. a friend of my travel mate, who just returned from HCMC, suggested we just book a night or two online, then scout for hotel as we roam HCMC. is this recommended?

we dun intend to venture out of HCMC except for probably a 2D1N trip to mekong.

any budget hotel to recommend? below 40 USD per room per night for 2pp?

I think it is a good plan. Booking the first night, maybe in a "good" hotel then searching in the old part of the city for a cheapest one. We stayed in both kind of hotels and both are great. I am sorry I can´t remember the name of the cheap hotel right now(I am not at home now) but all the travellers we met there were happy with their hotels...so you won´t have problems when you are there.

We went 4 years ago, and the price used to be arround 20 u.s dollars or less. Clean, comfortable rooms, breakfast included.

Enjoy the trip.

I dont think that you really need to worry about booking ahead. Just ask the taxi driver to take you to De Tham street, Bui Vien street, or Pham Ngu Lao street. Those are the backpacker area where you'll find back to back cheap hotels/guesthouse around 20USD or even cheaper. When you arrive, just walk into any of them and ask if you can see the rooms out first before checking in. This is perfectly normal.
