I was trying to look for a hotel that i can use my American Express points for and BINGO, I found the one and only hotel listed under Saigon, Renaissance Hotel. My first impressions of the hotel lobby was pretty pleasant; especially when they had those little bowls of vietnamese candies and sweets placed at the reception area where you register for your check-in (you might want to know that you can buy those candies at the Tax departmental store...and they are really cheap..less than US$1). Hotel staff are friendly and can speak English relatively well (at least i didnt have a problem understanding them). I had the chance to stay in 2 different types of rooms: the normal room with the city view (or rather, view of the opposite building). The room was simple and clean; in another word, no great shakes. Two days later when i came back from my Hoi An trip, they gave me a corner room with a river view, i was impressed! not only was this room bigger and brighter (nicer view notwithstanding), their toilet is also more luxurious (with the standing shower as well as bath tub). I dont know abt you, but i'm definitely into TOILETS! haha. plus they have full range of toiletries ie shampoo to detergent and toothbrushes. so you really dont have to bring anything except for conditioner (esp for the ladies). This second room definitely change my impression of the Renaissance Hotel. So if you are thinking of checking into this hotel, ask for the corner room with the river view. in general, quite a well-appointed hotel located in the heart of the shopping belt, Dong Khoi Street. i ended up shopping along Dong Khoi Street almost everyday, so much so that even the touts recognize my face!
On a scale of 1(totally unsatisfied) to 5 (a great experience), this is how i would rate the following: Location : 4 Price : 3 Hotel staff : 3 Concierge service : 4 (you can book your domestic airtickets thru the hotel at competitive rates) Toilet amenities : 4 Bed & Pillows : 3 View : 3 (Riverside) ; 1 (City View) Room Size & Decor : 4 (Riverside); 2.5 (City) Leave a Comment Theme: Hotel

We paid for the riverside view in a double room - was given a 7th floor corner room. Views of the river. Reception service was prompt and polite. Changed money easily at the reception. One thing to watch out for: the sun rises really early - by 6 am, the sun is almost mid-way. Close your curtains tightly, if you don't want to be fooled into thinking its already almost 10 in the morning.
The bed was exceptionally comfortable. There was a good stock of toiletries - from sewing kits, cotton balls, comb, toothbrush and the standard liquid soap and shampoo - don't really have to bring anything other than maybe facial soap! Plenty of towels of diff sizes. Only thing was that they had 2 small bottles of complimentary mineral water - which is hardly enough for 2 persons each day. Breakfast was decent - there was the standard pho counter, japanese, congee, breads and western fare - cereals, waffles, grilled veges, cold meats, sausages, loads of dried and fresh fruits, only downside - japanese sushi looked a bit unprofessionally made, and there should be more vietnamese appetisers/rolls. I stayed here for a week while I was in Ho Chi Minh City in Oct 06. The Hotel is centrally located by the river. It is about 15-20 min walk to the central market. Very good facilities and good buffet breakfast. Room #1505. See more pics for room view and hotel views.
