VISIT HCMC

by azwanda

hi there
Our group plans to visit Ho Chi Minh City next year for 4 days 3 nights. we have a few question to ask forumer HCMC

1. This is a family trip so she had a baby aged 10 months and a year and a half. Is it safe to bring them together.

2. We also want to know the hotel is adjacent to the restaurant provides halal food, halal food is expensive there?

3. What is the best way to visit there? I mean using a travel agent or there is a better, cheaper and safer.

It is safe to travel with the kids in the big city such as HCMC thus pls do not so worry about it.

As Hala food only offered in the big city thus you could easy find the Hala restaurant in HCMC or Hanoi. It is a little expensive than the traditional food
(local food)

You could use the travel agent if you do not have much time to find the hotel, the transfer... for your group.

Cheers,

hi,

How about ur travel budget?

If it is in budget, i think u should stay in a hotel in packback area in District 1, on De Tham or Bui Vien street.

There are some restaurant serve Hala food on Bui Vien street..

Arround center of disctrict 1 in HCM city, easy to fine Hala food, especially in Indian restaurant.

enjoy ur time in Saigon!

Hi there, I'm living in HCMC and i think it's no problem for u to bring all ur children to travel in VN, i've seen lots of tourist do that. Bcos u go with ur kids so i recommend u to book a tour from a travel agency, the cost will be a little bit higher ('coz it's a private tour for u n family members), but it's safer n more convinient for u n ur kids. Btw, i'm working in a travel agency in the center of HCMC, u can drop by my office for more information and take some brochures so that u can make good choice. My company is Benthanh Tourist, u can check it out first in the website: benthanhtourist.com.vn. Any further information, don't hesitate to ask me, ok? Wish u good luck ;)

Travel Tips for Ho Chi Minh City

Money Xchange

by blacksnail

The best place to get best rate is at the airport. and the exchange counters are very competitive, they keep changing the rate to remain competitive with others. and over there they give same rate even though u use usd 1 notes.

i regreted that i didn't change all my money there :)

Crossing the streets

by thomyorke

Based on what I have heard and read, there are approximately 1 million motorcycles in HCM alone. There are times that it is really hard to cross the streets cos the people don't really bother so you have to find your way. According to my Vietnamese friend, when you're crossing the street without the pedestrian lane, make sure you make an eye contact with the driver and make a sign for them to stop or slow down. This tip helped me and they do really slow down or stop.

Christmas in Saigon

Christmas in Saigon

Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is a great city to celebrate your Christmans. In the city center you will find a lot of Christmans gifts and all these days people are in eth city center and walking around.

First aid kit is a must

by iclee

Small body bag that contains your wallet and passport/copy of passport. Comfy slip-ons, crocs, that are non-slip. Brick pavements are great for walking around but sometimes they are crooked/bent and therefore needs extra caution when navigating thru. Summer clothes a must because temps can go as high as 33 degrees. Bring your stash of Betadine, band-aid, Bactroban oinment (anti-bacterial), Diatabs, Kremil-S/Tums, Advil, Calpol, Plasil in a Ziploc bag. We toured several hospitals as part of our Relocation Preview trip and found even the pharmacies of hospitals are lacking basic anti-bacterial antibiotics. You'll see that most street drugstores are ill-stocked.

A local K (their equivalent of 7-11) does not carry sanitary napkins. I was shown a panty liner when I asked for napkins. I found one in the nearby grocery at VND8000 for 3 pieces or PHP23. Lots of SD, CF cards but beware of fake ones. The small 5inch tall tripod cost PHP500 here as against PHP150 in Bangkok or Manila.

Unique Architecture

by Aidy_p

The Magnificant Cao Dai See Temple is located in the Tay Ninh Province and what wows me was the large area of the temple ground. The roads looked clean and well maintained. The building looked a little "old school" but definitely outstanding with it's unique architecture, bright colours and a ceiling with painting that try to replicate the sky.
