Newly built hotels in HCMC

by analyn_s

Hi all, i'll be travelling to HCM end of the month and my boyfriend is really particular about the cleanliness of the hotel. I've looked up several hotels and heard feedbacks that even if the hotel is 5 star, it may not be clean as it is very old and might have musty and smelly carpets and stuff.

So i'm looking for newly built hotels.. usually new hotels are clean. Anyone has any recommendations?

I stayed at the Spring Hotel in HCMC and it was excellent, all you would want.
Check out my review, by clicking on my name above photo, and then HCMC and the HCMC accommodation tip.
The website is listed for you to have a look at

You don't mention your budget.....the little place that we stayed in was old, cheap, but clean. But maybe not clean enough...

This is where I would stay if I could afford it:

Respectfully, I must disagree with the previous opinion about the Spring Hotel. Although not a bad hotel at all (I would recommend it because of price/location) it is not any where near new. The rooms are beginning to feel worn out, and dirty. I don't think it meets the criteria you asked for.

I would suggest:

...which I don't believe is even three years old yet.

I've stayed in a number of 5 star hotels in Saigon (Hyatt, Caravelle, Sheraton, New World), 1 in Ha Noi (New Horizon), and one in Da Lat (Palace). All were very clean with no musty smells and odors. I think you might have heard about the old 5 star Rex Hotel or 4 star Continental that have been around for 50 years. A few years ago Rex hotel had such a strong deodorizer chemical smell in the lobby that I left and never went back. I'm sure it was to cover up the musty odors. They've done some renovations since then so maybe that has been remedied. I still don't see how Agoda can give them high 5 and 4 star ratings.

Hyatt is the newest of the 5 star hotels, and maybe the priciest; only a year or so old. You would think the rooms became available yesterday.

I suggest you take a look at the Liberty Central hotel - newly built and everything has just been fully operational. Have heard really good reviews of it.

You can't beat this one for cleanliness - the Ma Maison Boutique Hotel was new in summer '09, and it was spotless. The pictures on the website are exactly the way it looks. This is 4*, small, and the service is outstanding. I only stayed for the one night, but everything about this place was first class:

Last year we stayed at the Metropole, it was super clean and we had a very large room. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. However i think stating a budget and area you want to stay in might be more help. Cheers Heather

Travel Tips for Ho Chi Minh City

Best time to visit HCMC

by xuessium

The dry season starts from late October and persist till late March. You get blue skies and plenty of sun. This is the best time to visit HCMC. (Do note the weather pattern is different for HCMC and Hanoi, which is further up north)

Temples

by muddybok

Temples can be found everywhere in Vietnam cities. Before I get to know that Vietnamese language was formalize quite recent, I have the assumption that these were all Chinese temples.

P/s: Any temples that order than 50 years will have Chinese name. Vietnamese were using complex-Chinese prior to Vietnamese language come into existence.

Morning Tea?

by Aidy_p

Walking along Vo Van Tan St, I chanced upon two separate drink stalls. The locals seem to enjoy the "Al Fresco" way of having breakfast. I chose not to participate in their breakfast ritual as I could barely speak a sentence of Vietnamese and would have caught some glancing eyes.

Elephant Ear Fish

by keeweechic

This island was well known for fried Elephant Ear Fish - Delicious! This is very much a local delicacy although it originated from Indonesia. Fish farms in the area breed the fish.

Location : Thoi Son (Phung Islands) Mekong Delta
